I have to contend with a soon to be mother swallow who has built a nest in the garage..... oh the dive bombing.... lol

Swallows are a marvel to watch when the hunt, not so "marvelous" when they're mad XD

No need to name the state--I'd recognize the Ohio state flag anywhere!  Very distinctive.  I think the white circle with red dot represents a buckeye?

Have you seen the original Maine flag? A simple pine tree with the north star up on the left on a field of yellow

I had not!  So I looked it up, and look how easy to draw!

1. Keep It Simple.  The flag should be so simple that a child can draw it from memory.

2. Use Meaningful Symbolism.  The flag’s images, colors, or patterns should relate to what it symbolizes.

3. Use 2 or 3 Basic Colors.  Limit the number of colors on the flag to three which contrast well and come from the standard color set.

4. No Lettering or Seals.  Never use writing of any kind or an organization’s seal.

5. Be Distinctive or Be Related.  Avoid duplicating other flags, but use similarities to show connections.

So basically, look at the Missouri flag and do the opposite?

Yes, the red circle is a buckeye and the white ring stands for Ohio.

Kinda hope they eventually revert back to that version, its so much more interesting than the state emblem on a blue background.

Hahaha...yes.  And the opposite of poor Nebraska--the classic "seal on a bedsheet."

This flag does not scream Nebraska to me in any way.

Our bicentential flag is super simple and everyone is raging about it

Raging, as in mad?  Or...raving?

and YES im so excited to see someone take interest in flags.

Oh, I've always been interested in them, especially as works of art.  I was a stamp collector when young; my busiest collecting years were between the ages of 10-12.  I was no longer collecting by age 13 or 14, but still had to go and buy a few sets of state flag postage stamps when they came out when I was 18:

Flags of our Fathers Complete Sheet of 50 US UNused by preciousowl ...

This set came out in 1976 for the Bicentennial.  I'm not sure why Alabama's flag is square; that seems very strange.

WORD.

"Why come up with a new design? Let's just slap the seal on a big blue rectangle and we're good to go."

It wasn't until after I moved out of NYC (which has a blue, white, and orange city flag) that I realized that was why so many NYC sports teams had blue, white, and orange as their team colors.

Ah a great pick! The red and yellow stripes symbolize the sun rising and setting in Arizona while the brown star stands for the states most abundant resource; copper.
