In Polish the word for "virgin" (dziewica) once used to mean just "girl" (dziewczynka, dziewczyna) and once, not knowing whom to ask, I assumed it's indeed another word for a girl - I didn't even know what virginity is. And later I've been told by my own grandmother, around the age of 20: "You're not a woman, you're a... maiden". I'm just one year and a few days away from being a bona fide 40-Year-Old Virgin, so infantilisation of virgins... no, it doesn't even really bother me (because I'm not afraid to be in the minority), it rather annoys me.
