Political compass

I found a test positioning oneself's political view on a cartesian map. I found it neat.

I expected to be slightly to the left of the center, but I am surprised to have scored as high on the libertarian side.

Seems about right for me.

Not big on authority, though I'm more on the side of government needing to stop coorporations from fucking up the world than a free market.

Did this a while ago, I think it's pretty accurate for me.

I never agreed with the way we design  the political spectrum with a left right up down directions.

I always felt a circle was better represented: absolute freedom should be at the top and full authority should be at the bottom.

Politically there is a convergence where the outcome(s) are the same. They only differentiate by implementation.

I don't understand how your model is significantly different from the square. A square offers 2 clear dimensions that we can judge by. While I may not agree what they consider to be "opposites", a circle is just rounding off the edges.

Unless you meant "circle" as in a 3D model where the extremes of left and right meet. While I can agree somewhat, I have to point out that you then have a confusing way to measure where one is on the circluar part of the cylinder I am picturing. What makes someone Upper Right on the circle? What two factors are you using for those measures? Since the "top" and "bottom" you reference I assume apply to the long part of the cylinder.

Or maybe you're picturing something else entirely. But "circle" is not a good word for what I think you mean, as I don't see how it's different from the square other than not allowing for someone to be far into the corners.

"more freedom" is kinda a funny idea, don't know if straight lines do it justice

I remember the political compass test has been shared and discussed on AVEN before on at least one previous occasion. I didn't take part on that occasion so it's nice to have another opportunity.

Wow, I'm really close to the middle. I expected my result to be quite a bit further to the right, and also I also thought I would be slightly authoritarian rather than slightly libertarian.

Anyway, I guess this is good. Hopefully it means I am centrist and well balanced.

Interesting. I was wondering were I would fall under the U.S.A.'s political compass. Based on the things I saw on YouTube and such, I suspected that I would fall somewhere near the center but...

chart?ec=-3.75&soc=-2.51

I'm actually surprised. I suspected that I would be a lot closer to the center than this.

Also, now I understand why am I nowhere to be seen on my country's political compass.

All parties here are athoritarian but either on the left or right (edit:) but in USA, they would be on the far right (nationalism).

I went from being center-right to far-left within the span of two years.

I've taken that test numerous times, and I'm solidly in the extreme side of the lower left quadrant, which isn't terribly surprising. It isn't a terribly detailed test, though.

I can't get the image in here, but:

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.21

Economic Left/Right: -5.13; Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.92. Not surprised by my quadrant at all. A little surprised by the exact positioning--would have expected to be a little to the center economically and a little more liberal socially.

If the people on this thread enjoy this sort of thing, I'll link to https://8values.github.io/ . Similar concept, but uses eight different values and adds some nuance. Personally I am a big fan.

There is also https://9axes.github.io/ which is an iteration with more detail. Personally not sure that the detail adds any value, but I still find it fun.

I’ve never taken the 9 axes test before, was interesting. I’m not a fan of local or national governments, but I have slightly less animosity towards local governments. The only reason I scored 46% on authority in the second axis is because often times democracy is just authority imposed by the majority, and I’m not a fan of either authority by one person or many people, hence why I scored neutral on that axis. My pacifist, freedom, market, secular, progressive, and multi-cultural scores were definitely accurate though.

Also I love how “The internet should be illegal” was one of the questions. It would be pretty ironic if someone who thought the internet should be illegal was taking a test on the fucking internet.

Not surprised by the result, as I knew I stood quite close to the middle when it came down to my political opinions. I tend to clash heavily with anyone far right thinking, and far left as a result, so makes sense to me.

Ms. Carolynne

I recently took a few of these just for fun (I ran into a subreddit for this sort of thing);

Anyway, the one in the OP gave me this.

chart?ec=-5.0&soc=-5.95

The 8 Values test, I personally liked the approach on this one.

Here's a similar one to the OP, but social issues got put on their own spectrum; this one considered me a lot more moderate, except on social issues. Seems pretty accurate towards how I would describe myself, more or less.

PSzM4mW.png

I don't remember which one this was (dichotomytests or something), it's a similar idea to the 8 values thing, focusing on various dichotomies.

CKDpYaI.png

And finally the LeftValues test, which is more in the context of socialism and leftist positions.

u5ZTH6A.png

I also took the Nolan Chart test a while back when there was a thread on that, I ended up down the middle left / right wise, and moderately libertarian. That one kind of made me laugh because a shitposter compared AVEN to the CCP with a picture of a Chinese farmer, then a lot of people got results towards the libertarian side of things and they edited their post to a picture of Voltaire.
