Music/songs that speak to your asexual soul?

Asexual Wellbeing

By Kaya Wilkins.

Sometimes i rub my ghost dick until

i can almost see it

but right now all i need is your cerebral per diem

that midnight van leuwen

netflix and yeast infection

i know sex with me is mediocre

but i can give you

asexual wellbeing

sex with me is mediocre

but i can probably feel what you’re feeling

if they can put a pulse into a spinach leaf

can they turn the two of us into a tree?

you still have the spare key

i have vegan peanut butter chocolate icescream

I just want us to do well

like jon bon jovi's rosé

Only the Brave by Louis Tomlinson, specifically these lyrics:

"I been close enough to touch
But I never cared for love
It’s a church of burnt romances
And I’m too far gone to pray
It’s a solo song
And it’s only for the brave"

...

"And they’ll say ‘I told you so,
Come on, when you know, you know’
All the lonely shadow dances
From the cradle to the grave
It’s a solo song
And it’s only for the brave"

Moses Sumney!

He speaks to my asexual, aromantic, and introverted soul. :P The music is etherial, weird and unique but that's how I like music. He has an entire album dedicated to Aromanticism alone. He also challenges the typical boxes/constraints of masculinity. It's the kind of music that you listen before going to bed if your feeling kinda lonely.

I just discovered this song and I interpret the lyrics as an anthem for asexuality. The video and some of their other songs are very sexualized, so I don't think that's what the song is about, but the singer seems so comfortable with her body while also maintaining a powerful independence. I don't think many asexuals feel powerful (at least not in the beginning.)

Some key lyrics:

"They looking at me, I don't mind
Now it is easy to walk on by
I don't want what you got so you better move along"

"I ain't gonna break for that
I'm a Wonder Woman (watch out!)
I ain't gonna take all that
I'm a Wonder Woman (watch out)
That'll get you nowhere"

"You don't wanna go there
Trying to confuse me say I need you when I know I don't
That'll get you nowhere"

I love most music, and currently "I'm Not in Love" by 10cc has been playing on repeat in my mind. What's weird is my FAV current artist for the past 3-4 years has been The Weeknd even though sex is a a very popular topic of his music. but I wouldn't necessarily say sex is a *theme*. a lot of it is about lacking emotional availability, the things we give into against our will, and the dramas/darker side of sexual relationships that make them not as great as most people/institutions paint it out to be. Idk I also just love his voice. Anyone feel similarly?

I really like crush culture by Conan Gray. The music video with it is awesome too, because he’s just going around angry about people being too romantic around him lol, plus it’s a bop.

Some lines I especially resonate with (as an Aroace) are:

I don't care if I'm forever alone
I'm not falling for you
'Cause this baby is loveproof

And

Crush culture makes me wanna spill my guts out
I know what you're doin', trying to get me to pursue you

I’d definitely suggest checking it out!

And I almost forgot to mention ‘Heart Heavy’ by Mother Mother, as that’s similar-ish too

I've always interpreted this as someone dispelling a lie, tearing off a facade, and embracing a truth, regardless of how painful it might be. Because perpetuating the lie is much, much worse...

"Finding Myself" by Smile Empty Soul

I don't care anymore if I let you down
I believe that I need to be free
I'm so used to my life with you around
I don't know anymore....the real me
And i thought i found my self today
And I thought that I had control
All the change in my life just fell away
For a moment I didn't need you
All these tears that I've cried
You must be tired of taking care of me but
Its what you do best and
I'm a liar cause really its what I need
And I thought that I found myself today
And I thought that I had control
All the change in my life just fell away
For a moment I didn't need you
Someone like you
Someone like me
Maybe its change that set you free
Free....
And I thought that I found myself today
And I thought that I had control
All the change in my life just fell away
For a moment I didn't need you
And I thought that I found myself today
And I thought that I had control
All the change in my life just fell away
For a moment I didn't need you

Haha, maybe a weird pick, but "Money" by Mystery Skulls? :'D I mean, for once a song that is a bop that doesn't have anything love or relationship -related in it xD The line "I used to worry everyday - now I got better things" always makes me grin :D

I get aroace vibes from these songs.

Nowhere Man by The Beatles

He's a real nowhere man
Sitting in his nowhere land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
Doesn't have a point of view
Knows not where he's going to
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere man please listen
You don't know what you're missing
Nowhere man, the world is at your command
He's as blind as he can be
Just sees what he wants to see
Nowhere man, can you see me at all
Nowhere man don't worry
Take your time, don't hurry
Leave it all 'til somebody else
Lends you a hand
Ah, la, la, la, la
Doesn't have a point of view
Knows not where he's going to
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere man please listen
You don't know what you're missing
Nowhere man, The world is at your command
Ah, la, la, la, la
He's a real nowhere man
Sitting in his nowhere land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody

Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys

She's just a girl, and she's on fire
Hotter than a fantasy, lonely like a highway
She's living in a world and it's on fire
Filled with catastrophe but she knows she can fly away

Ohh-oh, she got both feet on the ground
And she's burning it down
Ohh-oh, she got her head in the clouds
And she's not backing down

This girl is on fire
This girl is on fire
She's walking on fire
This girl is on fire

Looks like a girl but she's a flame
So bright, she can burn your eyes
Better look the other way
You can try but you'll never forget her name
She's on top of the world
Hottest of the hottest girls say

Ohh-oh, we got our feet on the ground
And we're burning it down
Ohh-oh, got our head in the clouds
And we're not coming down

This girl is on fire (fire, fire)
This girl is on fire
She's walking on fire (fire, fire)
This girl is on fire (ohh)

Everybody stares as she goes by
'Cause they can see the flame that's in her eyes
Watch her as she's lighting up the night
Nobody knows that she's a lonely girl
And it's a lonely world
But she gon' let it burn, baby, burn, baby

This girl is on fire (fire, fire)
This girl is on fire
She's walking on fire (fire, fire)
This girl is on fire

Ohh-oh, ohh-oh, ohh-oh
Ohh-oh, ohh-oh, ohh, ohh-oh
Ohh-oh, ohh-oh, ohh, ohh
Ohh-oh, ohh-oh, ohh, oh

She's just a girl but she's on fire

Unwritten

By Natasha Bedingfield

I am unwritten
Can't read my mind
I'm undefined
I'm just beginning

The pen's in my hand
Ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition
Sometimes my tries are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes
But I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten
Oh, yeah, yeah

All Queen albums, makes me feel goosebumps

Big same, like for some reason I like The Miracle and Innuendo Albums quite a bit.  Possible because as Freddy Mercury had not long left to live, most of these songs where highly emotional, personal even.  The creative output feels a lot different, even if it feels slightly rushed for good reason.

Sister Mercurial

To those who understand

I extend my hand

To the doubtful, I demand

Take me as I am

Not under your command

I know where I stand

I won't change to fit your plan

Take me as I am

Pulp - Do You Remember the First Time?

You say you've got to go home

Well at least there's someone there that you can talk to

And you never have to face up to the night on your own

Jesus, it must be great to be straight.

Do you remember the first time?

I can't remember a worse time

But you know that we've changed so much since then

Oh yeah

We've grown

Now I don't care what you're doing

No I don't care if you screw him

Just as long as you save a piece for me

Oh yeah

It's probably accidental lyric writing (the proposition later is a giveaway!), but this captures so much of the awkwardness of navigating a non-ace world. Cracking tune too IMHO.

you have to check out its just sex by car seat headrest

it starts off with the lyrics "The other night I cried while thinking of having sex with you" very relatable ;)

But when I feel you
My flesh yields no pleasure
And honey I'm cultured
I'm very sex positive
So what is this feeling?
It ain't so positive
I can't tell you if I like it, I like it
What happens if I don't like it?

and this lyric;

Baby, my body
Constantly betrays me
I try to betray it
I only hurt myself
Yeah, yeah

I feel that deep in my chest. Forcing yourself and hurting yourself!

I think this is actually a song about telling someone who's attracted to you that you're taken, but I've always interpreted it as aroace, and that the narrator is dreading explaining to the person pursuing her that she's not interested in romantic relationships at all.

I Don't Feel So Well by Vienna Teng

I don't feel so well
I thought that you should know
I thought that you should know
That I don't feel so well
I thought that you should know before you fall

I don't call them back
I thought that you should know
I thought that you should know
That I don't call them back
I thought that you should know before you fall

I saw it begin to dawn on us both
That somehow it wasn't surprising
And so you're preparing to swear every oath
And all the while I'm realizing

I can't love you then
I thought that you should know
I thought that you should know
That I can't love you then
I thought that you should know before you fall

I saw it begin to dawn on us both
That somehow it wasn't surprising
And so you're preparing to swear every oath
And all the while I'm realizing

I can't love you then
I thought that you should know
I thought that you should know
That I can't love you then
I thought that you should know before you fall

One Night in Bangkok by Murray Head

Bangkok, Oriental setting
And the city don't know that the city is getting
The creme de la creme of the chess world
In a show with everything but Yul Brynner

Time flies doesn't seem a minute
Since the Tirolean spa had the chess boys in it
All change don't you know that when you
Play at this level there's no ordinary venue

It's Iceland or the Philippines or Hastings or
Or this place!

One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
And if you're lucky then the god's a she
I can feel an angel sliding up to me

One town's very like another
When your head's down over your pieces, brother
It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pity
To be looking at the board, not looking at the city

Whaddya mean?
Ya seen one crowded, polluted, stinking town

Tea, girls, warm, sweet
Some are set up in the Somerset Maugham suite

Get thai'd, you're talking to a tourist
Whose every move's among the purest
I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me

Siam's gonna be the witness
To the ultimate test of cerebral fitness
This grips me more than would a
Muddy old river or reclining Buddha

And thank God I'm only watching the game controlling it

I don't see you guys rating
The kind of mate I'm contemplating
I'd let you watch, I would invite you
But the queens we use would not excite you

So you better go back to your bars, your temples
Your massage parlours

One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
A little flesh, a little history
I can feel an angel sliding up to me
One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me

Milque Toast

mentioned by @perzon, Oh no! by Marina really just sounds like a song made for asexuals to me. I Am Not A Robot is obvious, as well of course, but this one really struck me, especially the lyrics:

TV taught me how to feel
Now real life has no appeal

like I hope I don't need to explain myself- I'm sure a lot of a-spec people can relate to this.

Plus, I also listened to this great ace-coded playlist on youtube a while ago !

Normal by Katie Pruitt. She sings about being gay, but this part really gets me:

Stumblin' 'round Athens with frat boys in hot pursuit
Left me starin' at the ceilin', pissed off and feelin' used
Wasted and worn out and wonderin', "Where do I fit?"
And scared as hell 'cause I knew I was different

What's it like to be normal?
To want what normal girls should?
God knows life would be easier
If I could be normal, then trust me, I would
Trust me, I would
