Sologamy, marrying yourself?

Are there financial benefits? Because if not, nah. I'm not romantically attracted to me.

I assume people who do that really want a wedding.

I have no interest in weddings.

I don't see the point in marriage without the legal benefits. So why bother marrying someone/something without any of that?

Wait a sec, I'm part of my family! That's illegal!

Cotto sologamy is delicious on a sandwich. Hard sologamy is good with cheese and crackers. It's more expensive than the common bologna, but it's worth it.

Why would one do that? Where's the benefit, what's that good for? Nothing changes by marrying yourself, so how is it affecting your health?

I'm confused.

How does that even work? Are the vows the same?

Sounds like the plot of a movie...starring Jim Carry or Eddie Murphy.  Fed up with bad romances he decides to do something few have ever dared. He has married himself but hilarity ensues when he realizes just how hard staying in love with himself can be....can he stay committed or will he cheat on himself?

Few years after Sophie the sologamist married herself, she told everyone she cheated on herself. But I think I heard she renewed her vows and she's back to marrying herself again.

Seems pretty egotistical to me...

But if it would give you the same tax breaks as a married couple, why not?

- Are you married or single?

-- Married.

- Do you get on well with your other half?

-- Yep. Sure do.

- Ever have rows? Ever fall out?

-- Nah.

- What? Never?

-- Well, in addition to being me I am also my other half. So unless my left brain doesn't like my right brain...

- Eh?!

Etc, etc... 😄

Yes I would.

I'm genuinely interested in the reasoning behind this.

I'm married to Technology soo that's close enough :P

I can't legally marry at all currently, my own relationship dynamic prevents it under UK/EU law.

It costs quite a bit for a divorce and I'd have to have one some day. I mean sure it's all roses and sunshine at the beginning but then you just get sick of your significant other and all the nagging and bitching until you want to murder them. That's a hassle I can do without.

There were children involved?!

If you can't remember, they probably went to your other half 😁

Don’t marry children. That is illegal.

The longer I think of it, the less mental benefits I can think of. Maybe it's just me, but if I actually married myself, I'd feel both super full of myself and extremely pathetic. Like that sad girl who has her dream wedding mapped out in her head but can't find the one to have it with, so she puts the dress on and stands in front of the mirror, sobbing...
