Can a person who has never had sex before have sexual arousal? How do they know when they are feeling sexually aroused?

Yep. Usually around the age of puberty, young men and women will start feeling aroused on occasion. Sometimes it's in reaction to something like a steamy movie scene, romantic book, pornography, etc., but sometimes the body can also go through the arousal process without any real cause.

For men it's pretty obvious, they'll just become erect. This can happen with or without stimulus.

For women, they may become a little "wetter" than normal (different from normal vaginal discharge), and may feel a tingling, tightening, or throbbing sensation down below. It's different for everyone.

As above, sometimes people become physically aroused even if they're not mentally aroused. It just happens. It's normal. No sex required.

Edit: There's lots of good resources online for this sort of thing, I'm no expert. Planned Parenthood is a good one.

@Anita Teresita Welcome to AVEN!

Yes, people who haven't had sex before can experience arousal. I'm not sure if I experience arousal, though, so I don't know.

Incidentally, it is a tradition here to welcome new members by offering cake, and here's my favourite cake,

Yes. I’ve never had sex before and I experience arousal. For me (as someone with a vagina), there is normally a strong tingling or pulsing sensation which is noticeable enough to cause discomfort at times, and it either gets relieved if I ignore it for long enough or if I masturbate.

Just a gentle reminder to be careful with gendered language. I’m a dude with a vagina :)

Yes!! And on the flipside, someone can have experienced sexual arousal many times, but never experience it during sex 😧 (that was me until I just gave up on having sex, lol).

Welcome to AVEN ^_^🍰

Yep! Arousal is just the body reacting to things, even if it's just the body messing around and deciding to do so.
