Just curious what are your favorite or most preferred movie genre/style?

I like suspense/thriller but not out right horror. Also romance, action, and animation. ☺

I feel like most of my movie collection is drama or dark comedy... I guess I prefer a movie I can get emotionally invested in emotionally, or laugh at (a lot of dark comedies are actually emotional)

Though enough action. I don't like horror.

My go-to genre is fantasy/sci-fi. Also, some biopics like "Sully", historical dramas/period pieces, and campy movies. Kudos if a movie falls under several of these categories, like "Pirates of the Caribbean."

Depending on my mood, I like science fiction or fantasy (or space opera - a good combination of the two), mystery, the occasional western, and historical. Also, hybrid of all that ...

I have a soft spot for independent film.

I just love a well developed plot and characters.

I also love "based on reality" or a "true story" types of movies regardless of genre.

I tend to really love movies that are raw or have highly believable stories.

Documentaries too.

Used to be horror but each movie that comes out now is worse then the last to the point where they should redefine it.

Most of the current stuff seems to have a name: torture porn. I find the current state of horror really off putting too.

I want the movie i watch to have a story to it.

I do not like action movies, or todays horrors, as both types of things appeal to just stimulating people, in ways i do not get stimulation from. I find these boring.

When i watch tv, or movies, i want what i watch to have a point, ie a plot that goes somewhere. Just have a decent story. Does not matter for me which genre, just as long as its got a story that pulls you in. Most scifi is just plain rubbish, at least make something that could be, not just some fantasy. Most scifi is written by people whom would be very bad at running a world, and it shows. There ideas are rubbish. I like scifi, that at least the person thought out, and is practical, and is at least how a world would and could be. Yep, in future techs will exist, but that does not mean society will embrace any and everything. Most scifi, should not be called scifi, it should be called fantasy. There is a difference.

Things like action movies, and todays horrors for me, are just there to create stimulation in people, and i do not get stimulated by it.

Cgi should only be used in kids movies. I hate it.

Comic book movies! :) I'm a real comic book movie nerd, I absolutely love them. Beyond that, adventure, sci-fi and fantasy movies, thriller movies, occasionally I like a good comedy (mostly when it's a comic book movie anyway, like Thor: Ragnarok)... I think there should also be a dinosaur movie genre. Because I love anything with prehistoric beasts in it.

Sci-fi, horror, mystery or action. I have a soft spot for clay animated movies as well.

Rom-coms or anything animated. Animation holds my attention way more than most things, though there are exceptions.

I like Horror and Superhero, spefically Marvel movies though I do like some DC movies like the Nolan Dark night trilogy. I also love animation, though I suppose that's a medium not a genre

Same!!! I love both of those genres. My favourite musicals are Phantom of the Opera  (though not the Movie version, that was no where near as good as the stage musical) and Nightmare Before Christmas. There has sort of been a superhero musical, it's called Dr Horrible, it's a musical about a sympathetic villain called Dr Horrible who wants to win the heart of a his neighbour whilst opposing this arrogant, unlikeable superhero. It wasn't my thing but it might be something to check out.

@Evobessive that’s cool! I’ve actually seen Dr. Horrible-didn’t think of it. I kind of liked it at the time, but don’t feel I would rewatch. I do really like the music in Phantom of the Opera. My favorite musical is probably the Newsies (play, not movie) or maybe the Music Man.

Nice to find a fellow Phantom fan. I have heard of Newsies and Music Man but haven't seen it since it's expensive to go to the theatre, I suppose I could check out their soundtrack though, thanks for the recommendation.

The Music Man has two pretty good movie versions, in my opinion. The Newsies Broadway cast actually recorded the play and I believe you can buy it digitally. (That's how I've seen it). So, worth keeping in mind. I live out in the middle of nowhere, so we don't get live plays too often.

Thanks, I'll look it up 😁

I like comedies, drama, action/superhero films, thrillers....

the only types I'm not a fan of are horror films, romance, and the dreaded cheesy, formulaic rom-com.

Also a big fan of musicals! I used to live in New York and had the privilege of seeing a couple of Broadway shows which are always better and a whole different experience entirely , but I enjoy some movie musicals too-my favorites being Rent, The Sound of Music, Chicago, Grease...

I like to watch different genres sometimes, but I will always love animation.
