Wow, I didn't know it was that stark (make sense, though, if a significant part of South America is rainforest and a significant part of Africa is savanna, and then most of it's ocean!)

Yeah, 68% of land is in the northern hemisphere, but there is a lot of land in the southern hemisphere that is sparsely populated. Australia has a good amount of desert and other land that doesn't have a lot of people, too.
