Homer
I just stumbled upon this in Open Mic Quote My show's called "(a)sexy and I know it" (http://glasgowcomedyfestival.com/shows/2441) and essentially tells the story of my life as an asexual guy trying to survive in a sex-obsessed world, using jokes and general silliness to explain what it means to be ace and why the way the sexual spectrum is a little more complex than people realise. I've always loved stand-up comedy, and Eddie Izzard was always my biggest inspiration, namely because he was able to actually educate and teach things about language and history in such an enjoyable and memorable way. He was different and unique and quirky, and people loved him for it. I've always hoped that in my own way I could try and make learning about asexuality and deconstructions of gender binaries more enjoyable and absorbable through comedy, because in the right hands, I think comedy can be a very powerful and positive tool. I've been performing across the UK for 3 years now, having made a couple of appearances on BBC radio, Festival shows and podcasts here and there, but until now never really had the courage to step out and voice myself too loudly. In all honesty, i'm still struggling with it, but i'm hoping this show will help to improve my confidence a little bit.
