This is something that has come up for me a couple of times recently: when filling in equal opportinities forms, the question of sexuality seems a bit lacking. There are options for hetero, homo, bi etc. and if you're lucky, 'other' but that other doesnt usually allow for further information. Yeah as timewarp mentions, several of us looked into this issue in detail a couple of years ago. I presented our findings to the ONS at a stakeholders' meeting, particularly in regards to the sexual identity question they are planning for the 2021 census. Despite our best efforts, it is very unlikely they will include an asexual option for this question, but they were leaning towards allowing a full write-in for "other", due to our strong objections.
