Alright, this isn't a place to debate, I just want to understand where most of you fall politically. I'm just curious. Feel free to state your opinion, but please do not debate here. If you would like to further a discussion, please quote and take it to another thread.

You can ask me to add something in the replies, I realize my options are USA focused.

Independent. I don’t like the party system. (I could rant about that, but I won’t.) I vote for who I believe represents my views and will do a good job. Their party affiliation is irrelevant to me. I am very liberal/left wing/democratic socialist leaning so my views most align with Democrats and the Lib Dems (UK). That doesn’t mean I will automatically vote for the candidate though. I research before voting and will vote third party if I can’t put my support in the two party system candidates. Again, I could rant about the two party system but I won’t. It annoys me that my state makes me register as a Democrat to vote in the primaries. I refuse to remain a Democrat so I then switch back to independent.

I mostly vote for the green party here in Ireland. They match my views, philosophies, and concerns.

Empty convert to whatever is most advantageous to me at the time.

I work for a union, am a Liberal Democrat member and involved in the Conservative association, so I cover all bases

I'm a liberal social democrat (the ideology not the political party), but my favorite political party is the Party for Labour, Rule of Law, Animal Protection, Promotion of Elites and Grassroots Democratic Initiative otherwise known as the PARTEI (they're a satire party in Germany)

@CBC I also miss Jack Layton... 😢

I actually have voted NDP in the past. I live in British Columbia, and I haven't been fond of some of things that the Liberals here have done in the past. 😤

Well, at least pot's finally legal! 😄

I chose Liberal, because I always vote Liberal (Green Party, Humane Party, Democratic Party) , but I have no real political party affliction...but technically I'm Socialist or have Socialist values.... I think I just confused myself.

Independent, I don't really like the idea of shackling myself to one party, but if I were to pick one it would prob be libertarian.

Officially Independent, de facto Democrat, but in theory I am a wide range to beliefs from Keynesian Economics to Marxism, usually along Trotskyist, Communal Communism, or Luxemburgish lines. I am pragmatic so I know Communism will not likely be implemented so I compromise to Keynesian Economic ideas. Yes, I know the Internationale says don't fall for concessions, but I am pragmatic, so I do provided they are in exchange for something better. Because I am so pragmatic I don't fit easily into a specific party, but definitely left-wing.

Call me a broad left-winger.

Democratic Socialist.

Although I now see myself more or less forced to vote with the Greens in future, as our socialist party (Die Linke, Germany) made a statement last week, agreed upon unanimously (!) by the entirety of the party executive that was a complete and immediate dealbreaker for me. *sigh*

If you're a democratic socialist, wouldn't your views align more with the Labour Party than the Liberal Democrats?

I'm curious what the statement was, Myst.

I'm an American Democrat, extremely liberal.

Solidarisation with the French Gilets Jaunes/Yellow Vests against President Macron. I cannot in good conscience vote for a party that sides with violent rioters, ~40% of which are extreme right wing (Front Nationale).

I've always made a point of not being affiliated, although practically all of my views are left and/or liberal. However the recent political developments have more or less forced me to stick with the Greens. All other parties seem to have collectively lost their minds.

(Even if I live in the UK, my right to vote is for German elections. I am allowed to vote in council elections here, but I don't see the point as long as the councils are just enacting what the Westminster government wants.)

@Ceebs. I sympathize with having views further to the left than the modern day NDP. I was a party member when I was 19-I joined so I could vote in the leadership race. Before that my family have been New Democrats since the begging but honestly, looking at it just in terms of platform I am more closely linked to the Communist Party of Canada and even campaigned for their local candidate years ago-although that was also because she was a friend of mine. What puts me off voting Communist however is I dislike their international group-they have a lot of scary friends.

Sometimes. Depends on the topic and who’s in power. Overall, I’m more lib dem aligned but would more likely vote labour at the moment.
