I recall playing the 1991 video game Lemmings, where the premise was that you had to guide a line of anthropomorphic lemmings through a serious of obstacles, a task that required sacrificing some lemmings in order to save the rest.it

It used to be one of my all-time favourites back then. They were sooo cute and funny jumping over the edge :D

I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna say Kingdom Come: Deliverance deserves to be here in the weird game category simply because they thought to themselves, "Y'know what Gamers love? Methodical Learning! "

When it first came out I was disenchanted with the game. Not only did it start with masses of long cut-scenes, glitches for days, console breaking crashes, historical background exposition, but it had a horrifically sheer difficulty scale as well.

i recently went back to the game and found most major bugs have been fixed, even if rendering time is still awful, and discovered the reason I was having trouble completing quests and ousting bandits was because you literally have to find someone to teach you combat, reading, alchemy, horsemanship, etc, it you expect to get anything done. So I realised this isn't an ordinary game. It's an rpg based around learning, relearning and skill upkeep. Rather than, quick get the biggest number to beat their numbers!

So now I can bash around low to mid level bandits. The skilled ones still give me trouble though. I expect there's still some work to be done on scaling, I put all my effort into speech but I hardly outwit anyone.

I come from the olden times when games were large plastic things with magic inside. The strangest game I remember was Super Mario Bros. 2. It was so different from the other Mario game I had. And you could ride an ostrich.

I recently saw a speedrun of a game called "Sanic Ball" (highly recommend watching 14:29 on to see the extent of the hilarity) and it's a racing game loosely based on the popular game series Sonic The Hedgehog, but horribly mangled and made into a glorious meme. The mechanics are super simple, but it's hilarious because it's such a shitty rendering of such a popular game, and the meme quality is amazing and it's so bizarre. The soundtrack is hilarious, the characters' names (and shapes) are bastardized but obviously still derived from the original series, and overall, the game's quality just AMAZING but also isn't that good, and it's all perfect for the type of game it is. And it's free?!? Amazing.

That's just off the top of my head. I'm sure I can think of more if I put a concerted effort into it.

Have you ever heard about "I Wanna Be the Boshy" ? It's definitely the weirdest and the hardest game that I have ever seen. Lol, some guys are saying that Counter Strike Global Offensive is really difficult, and crying because they can't get a higher rank because of bad team and stuff like this. Usually they are using rank boosting services like https://eloboss.net/csgo-boost . Lol, comparing to Boshy, CSGO is easy as fuck. If you cry that CS GO is too hard for you, try BOSHY, LOL!

There was a commodore game where you were Donald (or one of his friends) and had to sort fruit and veggies into railway lorries.

The weirdest game I ever played is Cultivation. It is hard to explain what it is. This is what the developer says about it:

Quote

Cultivation is a game about a community of gardeners growing food for themselves in a shared space.

Cultivation is quite different from most other games. It is a social simulation, and the primary form of conflict is over land and plant resources---there is no shooting, but there are plenty of angry looks. It is also an evolution simulation. Within the world of Cultivation, you can explore a virtually infinite spectrum of different plant and gardener varieties.

It's not on the top of the "weird games" list by any means, but here goes

When I was a kid, I played a stabilo platformer game and I remember thinking it was a lot of fun, currently debating whether I should play it again or keep the memories of a good game rather than the reality of a game that... might not be good after all. It was called "stabilo boss mania", released in 2007 and looked like this

Spoiler

When I was searching for this photo on google, a bunch of memories of this mostly forgotten game surfaced. I guess I'm lucky that it's archived because if it weren't, nobody would believe me when I told them that a stabilo platformer exists.

The My Little Pony computer game from the 90's where the ponies would get upset or something and go back to their starting place at the very beginning of the game and then you'd have to bribe them forward again with apples. 😄

There is another game... But unfortunately I don't remember what it was called and it's been driving me insane for years.

All I remember is it was played during the late 90s and early 2000s. I think it was black and white or very muted. From what I remember the gameplay was side scrolling in a small battlefield like place where little chibi looking bad guys would run around and you were supposed to fire cannons at them or drop cannonballs on them I think?

I wish I could figure out what it was...

Anybody know?

Deadly Premonition has to be up there. It's a Twin Peaks knockoff, with some absolutely awful graphics, controls and voices/sounds (the sound of the car is horrendous).

It's horribly made, it makes absolutely no sense and it's amazing.

The weirdest games I've ever played would include the Commodore 64 version of Attack of the Mega-Camels (side-scrolling shooter where you go around shooting at giant camels and turning them different colours until, after about 20 colour changes, the giant camel explodes.  There were no actual collision mechanics for your ship hitting the camels, so you could fly right through them.  I don't think I ever found a way to die.) and the much more recent PC game Escape from Pony Island, which is . . . very meta.

The weirdest game I've ever heard of . . . that's a tough one.  Takeshi's Challenge for the NES probably wins the "weirdest gameplay" prize.  Among other things, it requires you to sing karaoke into the microphone that was embedded in the second controller of the Japanese version of the NES, and spend quite a long period not doing anything if you want to advance in the game.  Also, it's not merely a bad game, it's one of those legendary horrors that tops the bad game lists of anyone who's ever encountered it (except for the people who think the Atari porn game Custer's Revenge was worse).  However, the story that the design company put forth about the author of the first (incomplete) official Takeshi's Challenge strategy guide having died under mysterious circumstances shortly after its publication is probably not true.

In terms of "just generally weird", though, GPT-2 Adventure has got to win some kind of prize.  Someone fed an AI the text of all the Zork games and challenged it to come up with something similar.  The result is surreal enough to make a Dadaist squee.  You can read more, including a gameplay sample that I'm not going to try to reproduce here, at https://aiweirdness.com/post/187645450357/dungeon-crawling-or-lucid-dreaming .

Gentle Giant

These games are weird but are some of my favorites.

Earthworm Jim and Earthworm Jim 2 for SNES. Very silly and funny.

Oddworld Abe’s Oddysee and Abe’s Exoddus for PS. Very strange.

Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2 for PS.  Very weird in a scary, creepy way.

Oh man that unlocked a memory I remember it was really hard to keep them happy too.I mostly just liked to throw the apples and ( if this is the one being described) lollipops juice boxes and what other treats were available  on the ground and hoped it would make it happy

As for weird games I played chameleon twist would be mine you jumped onto platforms and fought using your tongue attaching onto poles and spinning, it was really hard from what I remember.

Oh man I found this bonkers game in the Racial Justice itch.io package, it's called "Oikospiel" and described as a "dog opera," which is the main reason why I started it. It has to be an older game or something because the graphics aren't great and the plot is either completely incomprehensible or totally over my head. I ended up just wandering around trying to figure out what I was supposed to do because I had no idea what was happening. And trying not to get motion sickness from the bad graphics ugh.

Only redeeming feature was it did some cool things with music and integrating that into the game.
