Demi / Ace Characters in Media

I am pretty sure, or at least I like to think Dexter Morgan from the TV series Dexter is demisexual, and so I have used him as an example to explain my demisexuality and what it means to others. But this got me thinking... What other characters out there are demi, ace, or otherwise on the ace spectrum?

I know that the sequel to a gentlemans guide to vice and virtue features an asexual main character. another book called lets talk about love also has an ace main character.

i havent read either of them yet but they have good ratings so you might wanna check them out ^^

Oh and Luffy in One Piece is all but explicitly ace.

Kinda spoilery but not really

Spoiler

Out of everyone in the entire show, Luffy is the only one that doesn't fall in love with Boa Hancock, the most beautiful woman in the world. Every man and every woman, except Luffy, falls in love with her.

Todd in BoJack Horseman comes out as Ace. It has a pretty good representation as well of Ace people.

I never realised just how many aces there are in pop culture. We've already mentioned quite a few here, and doing some searching, I also discovered Daryl from The Walking Dead might be ace. (Its complicated, Kirkman said he was ace but then later said he didn't know the what ace meant.) And that Maya from Borderlands 2 is ace.

The characters that seem and/or have been confirmed as asexual in media that I know about are...

1. Light Yagami from Death Note (he’s a sociopath who explicitly finds porn boring and uses any “love interests” as pawns in his schemes)

2. Lukas from Fire Emblem: Shadows of Valentia - by his own admission, does not experience passion (he’s confounded by the extremely saccharine romance between Clive and Mathilda, two other party members) or infatuation and actually questions whether he’s “broken” because he can’t fathom those feeling; he courted a woman before the start of the game but does not feel any pressing desire to see her again ever since going off to war

3. Luffy from One Piece - I believe the creator has basically confirmed him to be aro ace, saying he only loves adventure or something

4. Maya from Borderlands 2 - as stated by @That Demi Mammoth, Maya is ace; I believe it was confirmed by a developer

5. Cole from Dragon Age Inquisition - if he remains a spirit, he never displays any interest in romance or sex as he isn’t really human

6. Ryou Bakura from Yu-Gi-Oh! - was stated in supplementary material to be more interested in games versus girls and does not react to the fangirls that follow him around

It’s hard to find characters that are explicitly asexual without deliberately searching but there are a few that fit fairly well without being outright labeled as such.

My favorite webcomic, Widdershins by Kate Ashwin, has an ensemble cast that includes a canonically aro-ace character, Jack "Mal" O'Malley.  (Incidentally, he and his best friend, Heinrich Wolfe, essentially have a queerplatonic relationship.  There's nothing romantic between them - Mal, as mentioned above, can't be bothered with such things, and Wolfe happily flirts with any pretty redhead who crosses his path - but they're always together and very clearly mean a great deal to each other.)

Really? Ryou? :D I had the biggest kiddie-crush on him when I was young. XD Can totally see it, though.

Beyond basically Word of God stating he’s more into games than girls in the Gospel of Truth character book, he’s one of the only characters who isn’t affected by Mai at all and he finds the attention he receives from girls due to his looks to be bothersome. Despite the rabid hordes of people who often write him into homosexual fanfics, he has never displayed any interest in men in canon. It’s all circumstancial, but it tentatively points to him being ace or at least not actively interested in romance/sex.

Just got around to this (thanks for the link) and although I'm not far in at all, it seems like something I'm going to enjoy. Add that to the fact its based in a fictional town in my area, this is beautiful thanks.

You're very welcome!  I'm always happy to get more people to read Widdershins

Ling from The Diviners series is shown as a homoromantic asexual. I was able to find out that I was asexual thanks to her :D

Nancy from Every Heart a Doorway is openly heteromantic ace.

Here's a list of asexual characters in media-

Thanks, and I scanned through that link a while ago, but I should have another look in more detail when I have the time. And congrats about finding your ace side through TV.

i have always felt that i was aromatic asexual but lately my family and friends say i act demisexual around my husband. they said i appear to appreciate his sexual attitude towards me. i am slowly getting closer to accepting this label. don't know if it is his familiarity or a genuine personality change for me. the thought of intercourse with anyone else i am struggling with emotionally but am sometimes enjoying it with my husband. i never imagined this was possible for me.
