Rae160
Hey guys! I am a proud Asexual and Aromantic and I am feeling the need to move out. At the age of 21, all my friends want to move in with their partners. I feel like I have nothing going for me and it’s too expensive to live alone. Any advice? -Rae
banana monkey
hmm, I kinda had this problem too. Shame its too expensive for you to live alone. That's what I do (but its pretty lonely at times). Still what I would usually suggest. When I was 21 though, I lodged instead to make it a bit cheaper, could you look into that or see if anyone you know wants to team up. Not everyone around 21 wants to move in with partners as they have just finished uni etc. That tends to happen around 23 - 30. Now that i want to share with someone, I dont have anyone to share with as most people aroun my age live with partners.

Living on my own would be great however renting on minimum wage would be hard to find! Thank you

Lemon Ice Tea
I’m in the same boat as you. I want to move out of my parents house but I can’t afford rent on my own. I work part time but it’s a job with the school district that I don’t want to give up.

I feel your pain, I am fully qualified in my job however pay is crap. Don’t want to give it up! If only life was just a tad bit easier!

Tunes
When I got kicked out (abusive/toxic family situation), I was going to get a place with a friend of mine, who was also considering getting started on her own, but my sister was also getting thrown out, so we teamed up instead. We still share a 1 bedroom and probably will for a while, as we can't manage to save up any money, much less regularly afford a higher rent. But it is what it is. Now what's crazy about this is that the first apartment we went to would not let us share a 1-bedroom apartment together unless we were married. Not dating, married. Not sisters, married. 😕 It was the weirdest thing.

Where I live this was super-common in the days before same-sex marriage was legal... it was a way to avoid renting to non-hetero couples without getting into legal trouble over discrimination on basis of sexual orientation. Now that same-sex marriage has been legalized it’s not nearly as prevalent but some landlords do still have that clause in their leases.

I know of some other quite weird clauses (still) used to get around this situation.
