Good for you if you can follow the plot. I'd probably zone out pretty soon.

I have heard some people can't follow the plot when listening to books but I grew up listening to stories on cassette tapes (from as early as I can remember) and mum would read to me every single night until I was like 15 (lol) so I guess it just comes naturally to me? I remember the days before I had kids where I could literally zone out for like 30 solid hours just listening to audiobooks and doing art, forgetting to eat and sleep and stuff - one of the best forms of meditation if you ask me! It's like your mind goes to another place and your body is left to its own devices while drawing or cleaning or whatever ^_^ I do zone out if I'm looking at images in books or online, or trying to read something though, I instantly can't focus on an audiobook under those conditions. I'm listening to a detective book on YouTube at the moment (I paused to respond to you) and one of the ladies in the comment section says she loves listening to audiobooks while studying 😧 how on earth anyone can do both study and follow a book at the same time is beyond me, she must have super brainpower!!!

My grandfather could write different things with his right and left hands at the same time.

On the other hand, I can't listen to an audiobook and do anything else as well. And I dislike that audiobooks proceed at a fixed pace, so I read from paper, where I can read a paragraph twice or speed up as I fancy.

I mostly read children's books, heheh. I like them because they're usually short and easy to follow, which is nice whenever I'm reading at work and want to be able to quickly find my place after setting my book down to help a guest, or when I need something short and sweet to read right before bed to make me sleepy.

I've also toyed with the idea of becoming a children's book author/illustrator myself... Idk why, I'm just more fond of children's literature than grown up literature, probably because it's usually more innocent and provides an escape from real-life adult pressures. And I'm better at writing it, too, even though most of my characters are adults.

I suffer from major depression so it is extremely hard to get me to be interested in something so I hate a lot of novels. I only just started back reading them. In my worst years of being depressed I only read self help and autobiographies cause it was comforting to know other ppl struggle too.

I'm doing better so I try to read now. I have probably 30-35 books that is in a to be read pile for a year now. I've partially read 4. I got my Twilight phase late so I have a lot of vampire fiction not Twilight or VD cause I hate Y.A but Anne Rice, JR Ward and I bought a huge book of the classic vampire tales. I also have 1-4 in Outlander series but rn I am really in love with Gillian Flynn's books.

Usually i get my books from the bookstore or used on Amazon.

Impressive. I heard the same claim about Branwell Brontë.

I haven’t been able to indulge in book shopping for a long time (no money) but I happen to be near by one of my favorite local bookstores so I went in just to lust over the books. I had not been in for a while and they had made some big changes, very few of them good. For one they have hardly any used books anymore except the supper expensive first additions. They also cut way back on their inventory so each book is displayed face forward, which does make it easy to shop but cuts way back on their selection. It just went from a dark and funky place where you could wonder through the shelves, discovering new wonders and now its bright, airy, sparse and sterile. It made me so sad that they felt like they had to make such a drastic change to survive in this era of the Amazon behemoth.
