So it's nearing breakfast. You reach in the cupboard for a spread to put on your toast.

What do you pick?

They're all nice, but Marmite takes the biscuit (or the toast? My brother liked Marmite on Digestive biscuits as a toddler)

I usually don't have toast for breakfast, but when I do it is with either jam, marmalade, honey or nutella. Can't pick one of them, because that is wildly spontaneous and you would often see me have two slices with two different things on them.

I eat toast on some occasions, and I have either marmalade (often home made, and might technically be jam, though I don't know the official difference) Or cheese. Sometimes just butter, but I think might be weird.

Jam, peanut butter, butter, cinnamon and sugar, or Nutella but depends on my mood so I can’t just pick one.

first choice is usually jam

second choice is usually butter/margarine with cinnamon sugar sprinkled liberally on top

third choice is plain butter/margarine (or first choice if I'm eating it with a eggs and bacon sort of breakfast)

I like avocado toast. I don't eat toast very much though, I usually have eggs for breakfast.

Butter, always. Then either plain butter, jam, or cinnamon sugar depending on my mood. Very occasionally I will have peanut butter, but only if then broiled into melty goodness. I love honey in a great many ways, but not on toast.

Marmite, or Primula type cheese spread, very rarely peanut butter

Shouldn't this be a multiple-choice poll, btw?

It was then I made a mistake and forgot to press the button before posting. Once I work out how to edit this then it will be.

I know they weren't options but I despise cinnamon, eggs and avocado.

In a way, eating toast means , eating undergrade (worthless) bread 😉 🍞

I usually love to put both salted butter and jam on toast, so it's salty sweet. Mmm... Sometimes I will instead put peanut butter, or marmalade, or if I'm feeling adventurous, apple butter or hummus. I've even had guacamole on toast a few times.

I don't have toast and I have no clue why I'm here, and yet I had this strong urge to vote in the poll and post this comment.

I love vegetable pastes of different kinds. Today it was sweet potato paste with rosemary (store-bought), so I combined it with self-made "Provence Tea" (black tea, green tea, basil, oregano, rosemary, lavender). Recently - zucchini paste with a bit of curry. But I like my own pastes the best because I can make them without onions (which I dislike), I can be sure that it doesn't contain sesame, for example, I can make sure it has no large pieces of sunflower seeds, for example, which I don't like too... The best ones I made were carrot with red lentils and a paste made from yellow lentils, parsley root and parsley leaves.

However, I also like honey, some not very nutty chocolate spreads...

I prefer jelly (not jam). And besides that, butter or honey.

My ultimate comfort food is "cinnamon toast:" buttered toast, topped with brown sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Multiple choice would be nice here :) I picked jam. Nutella or honey would be okay too. Not a big fan of toast though, it just refuses to stuff me. I can have a loaf and not feel anything.

Also, marmalade and British engine oil aka "Marmite" shouldn't be confused with actual food and therefore shouldn't be on this list :D

When I am away in a hotel and served toast for my breakfast, the spread I always use is marmalade

Other than that, I don't really spread anything on toast

I've never had marmite or vegemite. I don't think you can get those in shops here, other than maybe some specialised ones.

I've never had peanut butter or Nutella proper either.

Honey is nice, but I guess I prefer jam or marmalade.

As for non-sweet ones, cottage cheese rocks, preferably with some cream, chives and salt. Sheer yumminess :D

Cottage cheese is OK, but I hate chives and onions. I like low-fat cottage cheese with some cream, salt and pieces of radish. But not really on a toast, rather as supplement to toast - just like scrambled eggs are usually eaten with a toast, but not on a toast.

Still, for me vegetable pastes are the best. Recently I found a recipe for a paste made of black lentils and champignons, this will be my next one. Well, technically no mushroom is a vegetable because mushrooms aren't even plants, but I always consider legumes a kind of vegetables.

@Nowhere Girl

I was going to ask about those vegetable pastes. Right now I have almost finished a jar of store-bought ayvar, but somehow I haven't paid much attention to foods like this before.
