Dawning
We're all familiar with the variety of symbols that have been created for the various genders. Here is one example of some of the symbols that have been created; I did not create any of these, and I do not claim that these are the best or ultimate symbols for these genders, they're just included as examples: . . What are our options if we are totally non-binary? One symbol that I've seen that is not included here is just to have us be represented by an empty circle, as if we were nothing. The symbol for neutrois, the stem with nothing on the end of it, again suggesting nothingness, is no better, and the one next to it for agender/genderless, a version of the circle with a slash that means not or no, is frankly worse. Worst of all is having non-binary represented by an X, as if we were nothing or wrong or had been crossed out. I am not nothing, I am not a no or a not or an absence of anything, and I am not binary! I decided to make my own symbol; why not, all of these symbols except for male and female were created by people just like me who wanted a symbol for their own gender, it's not like there's some sort of international gender symbol society, right? This is what I came up with: . So here I have the traditional open circle that indicates that this is a gender symbol, and then I have a solid circle, the very opposite of nothing, that does not touch the "binary base" at all. Simple as can be, but still makes my points. I don't know if anybody else will be interested in this symbol, it might mostly fit for Maveriques, and I might be the only one on here, but anyone who wants to is free to use it. Celyn: The Lutening
I don't identify with it, but it's a very clever symbol. Good thinking.
Just Somebody
The symbol is the third from the third column (left to right) , the one with a an asterisk that looks like a star, it was actually created to make us feel special bc the star. It's also an astronomical symbol, like the man and woman symbol are for Mars and Vênus. Another non-binary option is to use the mercury astronomical symbol as its been used to represent the transgenders, the androgynous and the intersex before.

Dawning
Sorry, but that's not a star, that is an X over a line, and we have not been singled out for a gender symbol to make us feel special. Thank you for taking the time to show me all of those other options, but I would prefer to have a symbol that is unique to my gender, and one that isn't problematic for the reasons that I've already mentioned. Caehel
@Dawning do you mind if I use this symbol for myself? I've been looking to get some artwork done (a tattoo) that represents my identity and this really stuck with me. Thank you!
Dawning
@Caehel by all means, use it any way you want!
tracyhide
Dawning, you wrote: “What are our options if we are totally non-binary? One symbol that I've seen that is not included here is just to have us be represented by an empty circle, as if we were nothing.“ Hi, I am a 47 year old married, straight cis female with no irons in this fire, obviously. I found this page and this thread specifically because I was trying to find “the” symbol for a person who is non-binary gender. When I read the above, I was like, no, a circle with nothing inside or out is perfect—because it’s the whole, the complete, the everything, the all. Then again, maybe I thought that just because I read the book, Flatland, and took college geometry (which is totally different from HS geometry—very trippy. ✌️) Then I saw the design you proposed. And again, I have no irons in the fire. I only have one friend who even has a trans stepchild. But...sigh...I absolutely LOVE it! You are the large open💜 (not empty!) circle—anything. You are the small filled in circle—everything? Well, that part needs work. 😉 Job well done. 👍🏻
