Representation?

Platonic Underdog

I get insanely happy when I watch/read something and there's an ace character. For example, I read this webcomic and at one point it's confirmed in comic that one of the characters is a gay asexual. When I read it I got insanely happy and I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I did a lil dance. I've also started this new one with, as the creator likes to call it, "grumpy mountain asexuals", so I'm pretty happy. Has anyone else seen any ace rep in books or comics online?

Unfortunatly not! :(

I am mainly searching for asexuals in TV shows or movies. But I never saw any one really come out as one! :(

Alot of people say like; yeah. I think he's asexual. But we don't know it for sure.

Jughead from Riverdale had to be asexual. But that never happened.

Now Liv from Emmerdale may be asexual. So I am watching that at the moment! :)

I never found any comics or books with asexuals. I wish I did.

It's very hard to find them.

Now that you mention it, I think I've sometimes stumbled upon a few gay asexual characters, but it's almost impossible to find hetero-asexual characters, so I'm still unrepresented.

Sadly, I never kept tabs on those, or I would share them with you.

Yeah, I get that. I guess that's why I get so ridiculously happy even when there's a small amount of representation. I've still yet to find aro ace rep. Because apparently romance is needed to make a good story *insert eye roll here*. But hopefully we'll be able to get more representation in the future.

If anyone's interested, I can post the two comics I've found that have ace characters, even if one of them is more of a background character?

If only I could put my mind together and finish my novel :(

It'll probably won't be too good, but at least it'll have explicit representation in the form of the main character. She's an aromantic asexual and I think she'd be a pretty good role model.

But I'm just blocked.

PS: Yes, you could post it, even if they're background characters.

There's no harsher critic than the author, I'm sure you'll do wonderfully.

As for the comics, the first one is called rain and deals with a lot of lgbt themes as its a slice of life comic about a young trans girl and her friends. Here is the comic http://rainlgbt.smackjeeves.com/comics/1047163/prologue-1/ if you read the comic, just know that there is transphobia, homophobia and other queer phobia inbound. So just be careful of your triggers and look after yourself, friends 😊 The author herself is a trans woman and I believe she uses some real life experiences. She does what she can to be as respectful as possible.

If you're just interested in the asexuality, here is the page where they discuss her asexuality http://rainlgbt.smackjeeves.com/comics/1712174/complex-orientation/

and a talk about her insecurities with her partner http://rainlgbt.smackjeeves.com/comics/1996177/pieces-come-together/ And some boundary respecting times http://rainlgbt.smackjeeves.com/comics/2471865/touching/    http://rainlgbt.smackjeeves.com/comics/2472705/lucky/

A couple of ace people have mentioned that this is well done. I like how they wrote them as a couple but I'm aromantic so I'm not really sure. I like it, though.

And here are the grumpy mountain aces https://m.webtoons.com/en/challenge/gunpowder-pine/list?title_no=156669 it's just started so it may take some time to get to the ace-ness but I'm hopeful 😊

What i wouldn't give for more representation of aspec in all forms of media. Personally i think its up the the ace community to make it happen.

Bojack Horseman's Todd is one of the better presented asexuals in media. It's revealed he's questioning if he's asexual at the end of season 3 which then leads to him learning and discovering more about asexuality in the 4th season. Personally really well done and a good series anyway regardless of the asexual aspect.

Well, I'm sure hoping to get some published someday. If you ever see a book called "this vagabond sky" by an A. J. Hale on the store shelves, well, guess I'll have finished it. ^_^
