I should have known I was asexual when....

I've always wondered what people that were home schooled think of it in later years. Do you have siblings?

I know a couple that home schooled their five children. I'm pretty sure the kids weren't stuck at home all the time. Mind you there probably a lot of kids that arent so lucky. I always worry how these folks interact with society when theyve grown up with little to no contact with the 'outside world'.

I do have siblings luckily. I enjoyed homeschool for the most part. But being so isolated I did miss out on a lot of the time when you learn how to develop friendships and whatnot. I’m playing a lot of catch-up in a way. I’m pretty good with people for the most part especially one on one but not great with larger crowds. 18-21 was really really rough. But I’m here so that’s a positive.

...when I’ve never had a celebrity crush

...when I thought that people got married based on hair colour (since my parents had the same colour hair) in grade two and got distressed about being forced to marry some classmate, this lasted for a week 😂😅

I should have known when I repeatedly got really mad at future me for wanting to have sex. Lucky for me I now know future me will not want sex yay!

My "should have known" moment came when I realized that when I was sexually active I had been "doing it" because I thought that was what I was supposed to do and i was supposed to like it. But then I realized I really had no desire to put any part of my body inside someone else's body.

THIS. so much this!!!

When I was ten (I started young) and my mum was giving me the "woman talk" and said something like "it's completely natural but you're going to start having *feelings* about boys soon, don't worry, it happens to everyone, you might feel a little weird at first, but it's perfectly normal". She wasn't specific but once I was older I understood that to have meant a desire to have a relationship and sex, now over 15 years later (for the first 10 years I thought something was wrong with me) I'm still waiting to have those *feelings* 😄

Also, around 6th grade, kids started asking other kids if they were straight. When I got asked if I was straight, my answer was always, "No, I'm curvy."

When kids in my class asked me out and I laughed in their faces.

To this day I'm not sure if they were joking or if I am a jerk

And I would say yes, but get mad if someone would say I liked another person. :) For me, this was an early sign I missed...

Well, as long as we learn from our mistakes, right? ;):)

Always go with the former with these two choice (unless they had zero sense of humor! ;)).

My brother came out to me last year that he is bisexual. He mentioned how much he enjoys orgies. He asked me if I ever had the urge to hold two dicks, one in each hand. "Um, no." I asked how often he thinks about sex and he replied with over 60% a day! I couldn't fathom it!  So I asked my sister how she new she was straight. Her response was, "I just love penis so much". I kind of think my older siblings got all the sexuality, leaving me with very little, even though I know that's not how it works.

That time in PSE we were told to bring in a photo of a celebrity we found attractive and I had no idea who to bring.

One of the most memorable ones is a conversation with some friends. I don't remember the context but I said that if I liked someone and a friend I will trust will ask me not to date them right now because they are my friend's ex and wait a few months I'll wil be okay with that.

I should have realised by everyones weirded out reactions that I am not that interested in dating.

I remember liking a song, before a big lifestyle-altering bullying incident caused me to stop listening to any songs. Being tone-deaf I'd sing the lyrics and I had this one friend who got absolutely furious. Not because my singing sucked, but because of what I was singing.

He claims that the song was about a guy ordering more drinks than necessary for a woman and taking the opportunity to make a move -- he presumably found that to be a disturbing thing to write a song about.

"Firstly, friend, why would he get her drunk just to win at chess and why do you not like that idea? What do you mean it's about sex, where does it say that?"

I realised I wasn't like everyone else pretty early on, when everyone else started talking about sex and it just never really clicked with me. Like I assumed everybody was just putting it on for a while, until a friend was talking to me about wanting to go to a party because there were gonna be girls there and we might be able to... and I thought 'oh man, they really do want that stuff, don't they?'

I should have figured it out then to be honest, but I just assumed I was "Broken" for the longest time, until my early twenties when I first learned being ace was a thing, and I then was was like "ooooooh, yeah, no, that's me"

Definitely common! :) Never have been interested with it!

So many different things that I could put here...

A few months ago when I was on a trip with my mom and one of my sisters, my mom made the comment “{insert real name} has nightmares about what everyone else dreams about”, I think that she was more correct about that statement than she realized.

Back in 9th grade, my friends would joke about rule 34... I thought that they were making fun of the fact that people made that stuff. Looking back at this I think that they were talking about it as in something that they liked and not something that they thought was weird (I’m glad that I got enough of an idea of what it is that I never looked it up).

Last year the Rice Purity Test was popular in my school, and most people that I talked to believed that I was lying when I said that I got a 100 on it (I didn’t even know what half of the stuff on it meant).

My dad likes to talk about the fact that one of my friends is a lifeguard, and I don’t understand how the biggest benefit of that job is supposed to be seeing girls in bikinis.

One of my friends got a girlfriend for a week and she sat at our table during lunch. That entire month the only thing that would be discussed there was porn and sex, I just went on my phone and tuned them out.

I didn't know asexuality existed but felt the same about the bold.

I thought of some more things to add.

- other people were more worried about my lack of sex and relationship than I was. My roommate in college actually talked to my mom on the phone and told her she was worried that I wasn’t out there meeting people. Nothing annoys me more when people are in my business without being invited 😫

- when I noticed my bff’s cousin and two of his friend stopped talking to each other and to me. Apparently, they had been vying for my attention and I hadn't noticed. I viewed them as friends, so whenever I saw them I would give them a hug, and sometimes I would hug one in front of the others. Which apparently created animosity and caused a big blow up. I missed all of it, everyone else noticed and they didn’t understand how I didn’t notice the flirting 😳

I was wondering that as well and decided I was probably better off not knowing.

I didn’t know until they started constantly talking about it, and even then it took me a while to realize what they were saying. I never looked it up, though a friend of mine apparently did before she realized what it meant.
