Porn?

I've been very curious about this but haven't had a place to ask for other opinions.

I have watched porn a couple times because I was interested in seeing how I reacted. So far, I haven't felt anything. I guess I'm not completely sex repulsed, but I also don't see how people have interest in it. It almost felt like I was doing research and didn't quite understand the material. I was wondering if anyone else has watched porn to "test the waters" and if so, what have your reactions been?

Haven't gone looking for it specifically (although it's pretty much impossible to not stumble upon it here and there if you frequent the internet enough...) but someone I knew once sent me what was basically porn videos of herself, presumably as a means of gauging/testing my asexuality.

Of course, the intended effect was completely lost on someone like me.  Didn't understand the appeal whatsoever.  I imagine it's much like how my mom feels about video games.  It's pretty much my sole hobby and how I occupy most of my time, but she couldn't care less.

I did the same, though I didn't stop at 'a few times'...because I was trying MANY different kinds of porn, seeing if there was a kink or a style that appealed to me...like non porn movies, there's genres, studios, varying degrees of professionalism and acting and endless other variables. Most of it was, as you describe, neither repulsive nor titillating. Some of the hardcore stuff was uncomfortable. There's 'safe for work' porn as well, which is non sexual but can still get some people excited. I get the general idea behind it...it's supposed to let the viewer live vicariously through the on screen scenario...something they might want to try, a kink or roleplay they find exciting, but either don't have a partner who's willing to try it or are afraid to bring it up. It's titillating because it gives the viewer the chance to experience something smoother, or wilder, or kinkier than what they usually have access to. For people who aren't interested in sexual gratification, but aren't repulsed by sexual themes, there's no personal association either way, and its like watching any random group of people do anything you aren't interested in.

As a side note, Japanese hentai is its whole own thing, and has been an endless source of amusement for me, because anything goes and there's always a needlessly convoluted plot. While western stuff will say 'the housewife pays for the pizza with sex' and that's the whole plot, hentai will have hermaphrodite angels purifying the world of monsters with their forcible 'love', causing the monsters to rise up against the totalitarian ways of the army of heaven to protect themselves and their children. It can get so crazy that you forget its even supposed to be porn, and when the nudity happens you're like 'oh yea, this is supposed to be sexy.' I've taken to watching it from time to time just to see what ridiculous premise the writers have come up with to justify why all this sex is happening. Sometimes its almost understandable...like a world where the people lack the violent tenancies we have in reality, and thus competition (including warfare) is done via intimacy. Sometimes its almost as corny and contrived as western stuff...like aliens that can only be defeated by sexual exhaustion.  Its got all the genres from fantasy to slice of life, comedy to drama, and it never fails to entertain me.

I recently purposefully went to watch porn and see what I would choose if I had endless choices? I didn't take pleasure in watching but I realized that the ones I didn't hate as much consisted of those with no talking, those which used toys/objects, or those that were more zoom-in and focusing on the act and not the people themselves.

I've watched porn (or read it) for decades. Some has a stirring effect down below, some doesn't. It actually helped me confirm that whilst women held no interest that way, neither did males.

Of porn I've come across, it all seems very male-oriented and greatly objectifying towards women, which disturbs me a bit. Other than that, it is also very boring because they are all practically the same thing with different set-ups. I also find it silly? Like the dirty talk, horrible acting, or weird unnecessary moaning from the woman when the dude just touches her leg or something. It is also pretty gross. There are many times I would think "Oh no... why would you do that? I don't get this. Oh, you're going put that in your mouth? Eww no no no. Thank goodness I'm ace."

Yup.

It wasn't really random though; it was still someone I knew but wouldn't exactly consider a friend, more like an acquaintance, and it was something they offered first.  I was just like "do whatever you like, but you're probably going to be disappointed  "

She was a rather promiscuous sort, and I think she saw me as somewhat of an enigma.

Some people are so full of themselves that they do those things just to make their ego go more higher.

How shallow you have to be to do those sort of actions? I would guess a lot.

So was this person hoping you'd call them and immediately ask for an encounter as a resort of watching them perform or were they just looking to i flate their ego?

Closer to the latter, but I really just think that she was used to dealing with guys that would fawn over her and someone like me who fawns over pretty much nothing was interesting to her.

Porn is a very bad respresentation of sex in my opinion. I’d like to see it banned altogether.

Having never seen or been involved in sex I can't comment on the accuracy of por(n)trayals :P, but it'd be easier banning alcohol, weed and anything else people can make or grow in their own bedroom -_-

Weed is illegal, alcohol is restricted by age. I wish they would do something about porn!

I am sure there has been some attempts but I am also it was largely futile in this day and age with the internet. Personally I dont have much of an opinion on it. Porn is porn. You can like it you can hate it, personal choice. I like some porn but its mostly because I like seeing people enjoying themselves. I may not enjoy it but lots of people certainly do.

Meh. I don't like it particularly because I find it boring. I've only gone looking at porn a couple of times, but I remember getting distracted by all the minor details that most of people probably wouldn't notice (or care about). Why's the video quality so poor? Women don't actually moan like that, do they? Wouldn't that pull a muscle? I haven't had sex, but somehow porn still finds a way to mess with my suspension of disbelief.

I recall an instance where someone said that porn was so faked because people moaned like circus seals. Somehow, I believe that would crack me up if I saw it.

It's funny in a "so bad it's good" kind of way.

I watch it occasionally, but it's not easy to find any that's not from the industry or being played up with acting. My reaction is similar to watching people do stunts or crazy experiments on youtube. It can be interesting to watch if done well, but I'd never do that in a million years, and afterward I always ask "Wait, so people really, actually go out and do that stuff?"

why?  people smoke weed, and minors drink alcohol despite their illegality.  Laws regulating human morality are notoriously ineffective.

Why? Because the legal/age restrictions prevent millions of people getting involved/addicted to them. Porn has zero restrictions.

Have you tried to focus not on what they are doing, but on what is behind what they are doing? Think of a sex not as an activity, but as something that manifests in the activity. Even if you do not get any kind of meaningful reaction on your side, you will at least understand the material you are researching.

18R video?

No sales of porn mags to minors?

As @Jade Cross, says. Consider Internet porn in the same way as growing your own weed or brewing your own beer. It's virtually impossible to police what people do in their own home, and the only way you'll ever stop online porn is to disinvent the Internet

Where exactly? because underaged drinking is often promoted by kids parents who buy them the drinks. If not the parents or family member, an older aquaintance or friend has a hand in these thing.

You might prevent the occasional teenager from weasaling a bottle of alcohol out of the local store but the laws by no means have prevented drinking from happening.

Porn also has restrictions. You cant get into a sex shop if youre underaged and even online, you get those warning that state that if its not lawful (being underaged and such) for you to be viewing the page, to leave.

So the laws are there, but they cant control people. You would have to close down every distillery, internet access, and grant holy inquisition like freedom to law enforcement to hunt down people for these things, which would only result in higher illegal methods emplyed to acquire them for the immense comsumption that people have of it.

Alcohol and porn wouldnt thrive if there was no demand.

I can’t even begin to agree with you.

if porn were restricted and you had to rely on an older adult to buy it for you, 99% of kids watching porn wouldn’t be able to.

You seem to be arguing that all teenage kids get their hands on alcohol. They don’t! They would if they could access it as easily as internet porn though.

Sex shops aren’t porn. Porn primarily exists on the internet.

And im not just talking about kids either. I’m talking about adults. I don’t think it should be so readily available.

Your kidding right?

Consider internet porn like brewing your own beer or growing your own weed?

Firstly growing your your own weed is time consuming, a lot of work, has a cost implication and finally against the law. Those little things tend to put most people off.

Brewing your own beer is time consuming, has cost implications and requires permission if you aren’t the home owner.

then we have porn, accessed in less time then it took me to write this response without a single person knowing nor a penny spent. How is that alike?

And finally, try getting your hands on internet porn in Dubai. You simply can’t. But they do have internet.

I still haven't heard your reasoning for limiting or prohibiting porn, only a belief that it should be restricted or prohibited.  Sex shops do sell porn, in fact printed porn used to be the only form of porn (other than production movies) before the internet.  Sex shops generally prohibit the entry of anyone under 18.
