My concerns

Recommended Posts

I decided I was asexual at 13. I came out to my best friend at 15. I came out to an additional 4 people by 19 for a total of 5 people. I’m afraid to tell people because of how they might see me differently and will likely never tell many people. It weighs on my to know that people think that asexuals are broken and that people don’t think they don’t need to be part of the lgbtqa community. I feel like an out cast, It’s hard to voice the struggles of being asexual in a sex driven society when none of your friends can understand.

Hello Karl ☺️

Thank you for expressing your concerns regarding identifying as an asexual. As a fellow ace, I can completely understand your struggles and I know where you're coming from. I'm 23,and I came out to a grand total of 2 people, mainly because I'm a very private person, and viewing myself "outside the norm" is not easy.

Sorry for rambling, I'm happy that I get to hear your thoughts, honestly ☺️

I still feel that coming out should remain a personal choice, and not something you should do if you're presssured/feel uncomfortable to do so. So don't worry about it. Just come out to people you feel safe/comfortable around, and if they don't accept you for you, it's not your fault, and it shouldn't put you down. You are not broken, and you have every right to be a member of the LGBTQA+ community 😊, so just embrace it. Besides, we have this online ace community,  and if people in your day-to-day life don't accept you, you still have us to feel welcomed and appreciated 😀

Have a good day/night Karl.

Thank you for writing 😄

William

I'm sorry to hear that you're not being accepted by others. Why don't you try going to a Meetup in your local area, to meet fellow aces and gain more confidence? Maybe even some new friends too :)

Hello there, and welcome to AVEN! :cake:

As part of my welcome to you, I'd like to point out some important threads that might be helpful in your first few days here. :) The Terms of Service is here. We recommend you read it over, and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to send either myself or any other administrator or moderator (the "admod" team, as we're called) a message.  Also, there's a handy forum called Site Info, which has some useful information including a thread outlining who moderates which forum. If you ever need something done in or have questions about a specific forum, please message the mod of that forum. And if you have problems with the site in general, or any single member, please message any admod.

The following are also nifty links to take a look at:  Welcome Lounge Mini Manual | Welcoming 101 | Quick Guide to the Forums | Asexuality FAQ's

Again, welcome to AVEN and I hope your stay is everything you hoped!
