How and when did you hear about sex and your reaction

I was like 5 or something, and my parents thought they where being sly. A few times in a week they made a joke referencing the word 'sex,' I asked and they just laughed, like the next day, I asked an older friend, he was 9 or something, he said something like "It's when you put a penis in a vagina," I responded something like, "that's just weird, why wouldn't they tell me what it was?" and he said something around the lines of "I know right, I don't know why it's so weird."

And since then, my thoughts on sex haven't changed much. :cake:

I was 18 and i lived next door to my cousin. We were having one of our usual midnight talk-and-laugh-till-you-die sessions. Somehow the topic turned to sex...and my cousin was absolutely flabbergasted that i didnt know what sex was. She decided it was her honourable duty as my sister to enlighten me with the nitty gritty details of sex. I was horrified and couldnt sleep that night. But i guess i'm pretty thankful to her....at least now i know what every other mature living thing in the planet knows 😛😛😛

I think it was during a sex-ed class in 5th grade. If I can remember correctly I thought it was hilarious (totally absurd).

I was 7 or 8 and reading books on puberty. (My family’s version of The Talk was to give me books and just trust me to read them. I started puberty at age 8 or 9 so this was in preparation for ~changes~.) My reaction was basically just surprise. I was obviously way too young to grasp the idea of sexual desire. I thought it was a very strange activity for adults but accepted it as a fact of science. I liked medicine from an early age and watched a lot of documentaries and docuseries so I wasn’t freaked out or anything. I didn’t think much about sex again until my 20s.

I think I heard about it in primary school when there was a strange book about sex at my friend's house back then. Her parents had to hide that book afterwards since we really shouldn't have been reading it in the first place. Learning about sex was oddly intriguing but it also seemed like something that I thought wouldn't be a popular thing to do among people.

Also there was an incident when I was little and in daycare - there was a boy who was some years older than the other kids and he suggested really suspicious things that me and him would do in the bathroom. Since I was really little I didn't think anything of it but years later when I had realized what those things meant I felt grossed out. So I guess that kind of counts as hearing about it but at the same time I didn't exactly know about it?

I think when my mom gave me and my sister 'the talk', so I was probably like 10 or 11. I just remember being super embarrassed, I don't remember anything she actually said haha. And of course my friends in middle/high school talked about it. But I always felt awkward because I don't get it. Now that I know I'm asexual, it makes a lot more sense why I feel that way

I think I vaguely knew what sex was when I was really young... in that two people rolled around in a bed and were happy about it (mostly because I watched my sister play the Sims and that's how sex works on the Sims).

I didn't know the mechanics of it until I was 12 and stumbled upon a NSFW fan fic. I spent half an hour crying in a bathroom once I realized what was happening. XD

7 or 8, I believe. My mom was very open about adult subjects. She never shied away if an adult topic came up, even in movies and video games. When they came up, she always explained them in a calm and educational manner. She never once ran to turn off the TV or cover our eyes if those kind of scenes were on TV.

But, I honestly can't remember how I reacted, I was so used to seeing sex on TV and hearing about sex that I didn't really react. I was more or less like, "Oh, some people like to do that thing. Okay."

Living at an traditional christian family, you didn't had the famous talk about sex. I just learned at school and from people of there what was sex, at the age of 12 years old, and because the country where I live people are so open about sex, you literally couldn't escape from those topics.

I also first learned about it from the Sims. I remember making sims woohoo (what sex in the game is called) because I thought it was only used to create drama at first. (I used to watch a lot of adult dramas with my mom.) My mom did explain what it was soon enough, though. But, even after she told me I still continued to make my sims woohoo because I liked using it to ruin their lives. (I think I had watched a little too much Desperate Housewives with my mom.)

Oh no, fanfic does not sound like a fun way to learn about the mechanics of sex. I guess I was lucky enough to know about the mechanics form a younger age. (So there wasn't really any shock.) But, if it makes you feel any better, I accidentally downloaded lesbian porn onto my grandmother's computer when I was 12. I'm pretty sure she thought I was a lesbian from then on.

Lol! Who knew the Sims could be so like... half educational. :P

But yeah, the fan fic was very not ok. Unfortunately I spent the next four years thinking basically "sex is what boys do to girls because they're stronger than they are" until we finally had sex ed and learned what exactly it was that I read and learned that sex is supposed to be this enjoyable thing that people look forward to. But even then I thought it was only the boys who got to choose when to have sex and who to have it with and as a girl I was just supposed to carry around condoms so I wouldn't get pregnant and hope that the boy was good looking so it wouldn't hurt as much. Lesbians were mentioned once and the entire class pulled these gross looking faces so I also assumed you weren't supposed to like girls either.

I was 6. My parents had given a couple books to my sister on puberty and reproduction, and I read through it many times. I wasn't grossed out. They had helpful information that was intellectually interesting for a first grader. I didn't think much about whether I wanted to have it, because it was clearly for later in life. I don't think it's a sure sign of asexuality to be grossed out by it at first, and clearly based on my experience people who react to it in a curious way can end up being asexual anyway.

Interestingly enough, a lot of Sim players I've talked to claim they discovered their sexuality from playing the Sims as a kid. I guess all that freedom allows children to explore topics, in a not too graphic way, without their parents knowing.

What kind of fanfic did you read? You must have got into some pretty dark stuff if you thought "sex is what boys do to girls because they're stronger than they are." Or maybe you just had a really innocent mind, I don't know.

I was pretty much just scrolling down the tags for Naruto because that was one of my favorite shows at the time and I'd only just discovered fan fiction a couple weeks before and found like.... "Itachi/Sakura Lemon" and I had no idea what that meant. I thought they were about to have a battle in the woods or something because Itachi is a bad guy. Basically he just forced her to have sex with him and was like "I own you now." Before that time I'd never seen sex on TV or anything, just my sister playing the Sims because to my parents I wasn't old enough to play the sims until I was a teenager. My parents never spoke to me about those types of things either. I also went to an all girls school so boys were never really around.

I was in 4th grade. That was when we first learned about the reproduction system. Interestingly enough, my mother got pregnant with my middle sister at that time too, so I finally understood everything.

To me it was fascinating, I was so fascinated that I would play by myself of people making reproduction dances, so that people could get pregnant, in my balcony and I talked about it to my 3 years younger cousin. He was also fascinated. Until, I forgot about it. Then, I had again the reproduction system in 6th grade and lots of sex-ed from 7th to 9th grade. In our educational system sex, drugs, alcohol was a must, that and basic life support. We talked about it every year. Later,I found about homosexuality and yaoi, shipping and fanfictions. I used them to understand gay sex. To me sex is very interesting to read about, so I can understand it, since I have no interest in doing it any time soon, if ever. Also there are some types of sex I will never be possible of having and I want to understand these too. Sexuality is very interesting.

Most small children react with an “eeeew!” towards sex. Most boys go through a phase where they dislike girls and are really touchy-touchy with other boys. Kind of homosexual. Later in their teens, they notice the girls and they become interesting.

Oh no! That definitely would have skewed any child's idea of what sex was. It's a shame you had to learn about it that way, though. (But I can't stop laughing at it, sorry.) But I will admit I was the kid (around 8-12) who used to role-play Naruto characters with her friends and sometimes it got into very dark topics like the one you read. (It never got too graphic but it was implied and I liked all the drama it created.)

I learnt to read when I was four, and my parents never thought of hiding any of the books they had on their shelves. By the time I went to school when I was seven I already had read and studied subjects like human reproductive physiology, contraception (even now I can remember how the diagrams and pictures in one of my favourite books looked like), all sorts of medical matters, impotence and how to raise a child. I even tried to give my parents advice on how to raise me, and probably asked the a lot of embarassing questions about reproduction as well. I don't think my parents ever gave me any sort of "the talk" (since I clearly already knew how things worked), and the matters sure weren't new to me when reproduction was covered at school when I was eleven. My reaction towards everything was inquisitive and curious, and I never had an "eww, gross!" reaction towards anything. I have approached everything with scientific curiosity since I was a small child, and that has never faded.

I think I was around 12. I learned it from a video game. I didn’t know what it was and I thought it was a joke. My mom gave me books but they didn’t explain that part at all. I never really got “the talk”

I have a memory of being six or seven, talking with a friend who told me sex was when two people got naked and kissed. I must have heard about sex before this because I remember thinking, 'that doesn't sound right', but I don't know what I knew or thought at the time. I think I was more or less unfazed by the concept regardless.

I might have heard about it earlier, but I found out about it when I was 11 when we had our first “sex ed” class in school. They didn’t really talk much about it, but they did mention sexual intercourse a few times, as in “oh that’s how pregnancy happens” , and I remember when the teacher asked if we had questions I wanted to ask what it was (I don’t think I did though). I sort of put two and two together and figured it out for myself, with the limited knowledge I had been given in that class. My parents tried to give me “the talk” shortly after but I just awkwardly avoided it, thinking I already knew all there was to it (I didn’t thought, and still don’t)

At first I thought people just did it to have kids, which made me feel a little uncomfortable because if I wanted kids I’d have to do it. But when I found out people didn’t just do it for that I was very confused as to why.

I learned on my own as a kid cause I read science encyclopedias from a really young age. Probably around 7-8ish I just read about human reproduction. I didn’t have any particular reaction to it; I knew humans were animals so we had to reproduce too. Sex ed really didn’t surprise me as an adolescent cause I knew a lot about it already. I have a fairly detached view of it. It happens and it’s a part of life. It’s unlikely I’ll do it, but it’s not all that repulsive to me.

I don't think anyone has ever explained to me what sex is; I kinda just gradually understood it from context. I'm pretty sex-indifferent, so I never gave it much thought.

When I was five I discovered the Playboy channel by accident and became fascinated. Though what I saw was oral I figured out how the mechanics of sex went on my own. (I mean that elephant tjing on that man had to go somewhere right?).

Not saying there's any correlation, just thought it would be an interesting topic :)

I think I was about 10 to 12, and I remember I was watching a show with a very explicit sexual joke that made me curious...an hour of web surfing later and I knew what sex was at a basic level.

I remember actually being super fascinated by it, but in a very scientific way. I definitely didn't picture myself in that scenario!

I don't remember how old I was, but I remember knowing that there was something called sex, but not actually knowing what it involved. I found the idea interesting, though, in a sort of mysterious way. I didn't actually understand it until I read a book in which the girl's father explains it to her. I was like, "Ohhh, that clears it up."
