Why Cake?

Recommended Posts

I'm really curious since I'm new to AVEN and generally the asexual community (not new to the fact that I'm asexual tho): Where did the whole cake thing came from? Why is this a symbol for this group and not idk, pizza or some other dish or food? (I really like pizza more than cake )

Someone asked: What's better than sex?

Someone answered: Cake!

And so we have cake!

I actually like pie over cake. But they're both equally great. :D

I was wondering the same thing when I first joined, @Shiro S... Until I asked around in chat and got links that explained AVEN History... I like both pie and cake, but ice cream's good too. ;)

the main function of cake is to show that we as asexuals would take it over sex. id take anything over sex. id eat dog food or dirt over sex. but i sex repulsed so anything is better than sex.

we also say "give it cake" that means something is really good lol

The phrase always puzzled me, considering some music uses "cake" to mean something sexual

Does anybody know the origins of 7 when someone used the cake saying first?

I don't have the link handy, but I'm sure there is a post or something somewhere that goes into more detail about the history/background of the :cake:

Here's a silly story about the AVEN Cake: http://wiki.asexuality.org/Cake

though really, it doesn't explain "Why Cake?"

Another answer: http://www.asexualityarchive.com/cake/

Silliness prevails.

I think, in the end, "cake" is just a way to represent that there are other things in the world besides sex and/or romance one can focus upon. I mean, really, have you ever watched Ace of Cakes? Great show. :D

There's no sense crying over every mistake

You just keep on trying 'til you run out of cake

And the science gets done and you make a neat gun

For the people who are still alive
_________

Some cakes are so good, you just need a lie down afterwards...

I have to agree with you here! Whilst yes, you gotta love cake, it's all about the pizza! Now I've never had sex, and don't particularly want to/am at all interested in it, I could guarantee that pizza is 1000x better than sex
