museums - i am curious.

i was talking to 3  people in the last week about museums and all volunteered information that they've never been to a museum in ireland (all 3 are irish)

I enjoy museums, but I can't remember the details about how many I've been to where they were, etc., over the last few years. I can't even remember the last museum I went to... I have always loved natural history museums. I also like some art museums (not a big fan of abstract or modern art). I like science museums and technology museums, and some quirky museums (depending on the subject). I was lucky enough to live close enough to walk to some really good museums for a few years back in the 70s. Since I relocated earlier this year I have yet to go to any local museums. I should remedy that!

I put 6-10 museums because I had to fill that field. I don't actually know how many I've been too XD And neither do I remember exactly where they were. But at least most of them were in my town or the bigger one right next to it, or else in Belgium or towns near the belgium border. It's quite interesting how museums can vary in different countries.

Do temporary expositions outside of museums count? Because that would raise the number quite a bit.

And I go to museums for various reasons, it depends.

Oh, and they were of various kinds, I don't remember everything.

I've been to two different museums in the past three years, both in my city, and one of them I've been to several times! One of the museums is actually a 10 minute walk from where I live, so I figure why not go?

Both were art museums as well, but I think the next one I'd like to go to would be maybe a science or natural history...I haven't been to the science museum in years.

I've been to three museums in the past three years, two about 20 odd miles away, a natural history museum, science museum, and the third was a local history museum when I was on holiday (still in the UK though).  I love museums, I wish I had more chances to visit them.

I've been to at least 10 so I put more than 11. I go to a lot of museums. I can't possibly name them all. I love museums. I go "locally" (within an hour's drive) and abroad.

I've gone to only 1 or 2 within the last three years; one an art museum and one a science museum, all local but not close enough to do whenever an exhibition changes. We had a science museum I used to love but now isn't worth going to. I'm a big fan of free museums of which there aren't enough of.

When I travel I try to stop in at any destination museums that I'm interested in (history, some art, war, national or cultural museums).

I've been to a number within an hour's drive, and some in the next couple of states (5 hours). Went with some friends to NYC to see planes, rocks, and subways.

Not really into museums. BUT the local natural history museum had an exhibit on Mummies of the World, and I just had to go. And it was awesome! The ticket was $40... but other than that, really enjoyed my visit.

Mummies! :D

Those ticket prices hurt me to hear! I love cool exhibits like that, but the price points are not fun.

Really:mellow:

And I've already been stressing over a 9/12€ (depends on discounts) exhibit I want to go see of the Terracota Army...

My parents and aunt like to donday trips to different museums, sometimes I join them so I've been to quite a few. Just went to Monticello today with some friends that wanted to go actually.

I think the three years in the question is limiting.  I went to all of the museums around where I live many years ago.  As the exhibits haven't changed much and the price of entry has increased, I've seen no reason to return in the last three years.

My main reason for going to the museum is that it's an interesting place to visit while under the influence of psychedelics, especially with the art exhibits and the interactive exhibits.

I love museums, I think they're really cool! No idea how many I've been to in the last 3 years, probably lots :P

Usually I go just because I'm interested in them (especially science and dinosaur ones!) or when I'm out with family, but they're also really good things to do for AVEN meets - my first Glasgow meet involved me dragging everyone to a dinosaur exhibition :D

I live close to Washington DC, so I've been to pretty much all the Smithsonian museums at least once.  Since they're free, they're an easy and fun thing to do, especially when people who haven't been to them come to visit.  I've also been to some museums in/around NYC recently, and the Liberty Bell museum in Philly.

I like museums, and have been with friends, family and alone. Sometimes I've visited a city Intentionally to visit a museum, other times we saw one and it looked interesting, and on one occasion it was "let's get out of this downpour, look a museum, go in there"

Similar to Sea-Lemon, most museums I been to recently have been at AVEN meets, though been to a couple myself out of bordom, like the Glasgow Police Museum.

I really really like museums. I've been to most in my country and then I did the rounds of the museums in Paris, which I really enjoyed. My family have been taking me to museums every month since I was a kid so it's sort of instilled in me.

The last time I went to a museum was five years ago and it was a maritime one.

Every now and again, I think that I'd like to go and visit more museums (there are a lot in my city), but then I always forget about the whole idea.

Maybe if I do the poll some time in the future, I'll include aven meets in the reasons category :)

My answers:

1) yes

2) 2 different museums

3) both were in ireland.

4) it was Dublin so 26-50 miles

5) no

6) natural history museum and archaeology museum.

7) spare time with nothing to do. The natural history was day after a gig so it was either that or go home. The archaeology was I had two gigs on consecutive dates so on the second day, I went to the archaeology. Something similar is in September and I will go the national history museum in dublin that day I hope. :)

I've seen a few of the Smithsonian museums. The air and space museum is pretty wild (also check out Udvar-Hazy air and space museum if you can, they've got an SR-71 and a space shuttle!). I'm not really an artsy type, but the American Art Museum is also also worth checking out. Pretty much any of the Smithsonian centers are cool and well worth the time if you happen to be in DC.

1.) yep

2.) In the past three years I have been to many museums, definitely over 11..

Spoiler

there were two modern art museums in Basel on a school trip to Basel to see the classical art museum, that was closed, so we went to the modern art museum instead and then another because it existed; multiple art museums in Venice, when I went there on a graduation trip with my art class; the natural history museums in Basel, Nuremberg and Stuttgart, because I like museums, especially natural history museums (Stuttgart's Natural history museum of those is best btw..); three museums in Prague, when I went there on a weekend with my parents, those where the torture museum, the communist museum and the alchemy museum, 'cos why not; I've been to the toy museum and Dürers house in Nuremberg, because they were there; an art museum with my boarding school in Basel (not the one mentioned above), because it looked cool, it was (it was optional); I've also been to the national socialist museum in Nuremberg and to the art and history museum in the city I live in; also a museum in Canada (Royal BC museum), it was fun, it had a bunch of stuff; and a museum set up like an old black forest town thing with my boarding school on a weekend (Vogtbauernhof).. and I'm possibly missing a few... (that might look like I go to museums a lot.. but I don't actually..)

3.) the museums I've been to in the past three years have been in Switzerland, The Czech Republic, Canada and Germany (country of residence)..

4.) all of those distances..

5.) yep, the natural history museum in Stuttgart, once alone and once a year later on a school trip, it's a great museum, it's small, but really nice :D ..

6.) yes, many of those :P (though usually only in the form of exhibits..)

7.) I like museums... also school..

I love museums, especially art ones! I have been to more than 11 museums in the last 3 years. I feel a bit frustrated because I have already been to every museum in my city many times, so I have to travel to see new ones.

I was able to go to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence last year, I was so, so happy! ^_^

Apathetic Echidna

I went on a holiday including 3 different countries about 2 and a half years ago and going to museums and art galleries is how I spend 80% of my time on holiday. As requested I am clarifying as I chose the 'another type of museum' option. I went to a historic house where an artist had a studio and I believe they called it a living museum because they had an art centre attached with a resident artist as well as modern exhibits and all the rooms done historically accurate as if the artist was still alive and living there.
