IMO i assume people are able to use their common sense when posting stuff on AVEN. I've been on this site for more then 2 years, never sugarcoat my opinions and i've only got a nudge at highest from back in 2015 so that statement doesn't really make sense to me.

It's probably because you already speak in a very formal manner naturally.

I had to relearn how to communicate, because my articulation skills and tact were very lacking, and got in trouble because of it. Never because my opinions were bad.

I think being banned like that is unfair. Generalizations should not warrent a warning.

I was just reading the new rule and I have to be nick-picky about it....

1. The rule CAN be written better to be easily understood by all. No reason to be so "technical" when most of the population can't read REALLY fancy words... Most don't go to college (I ain't due to financial and personal reasons concerning debt) or have an IQ of 105-110 according to tests I've done both online and with psychologists...

2. I do feel that this could potentially blow-up in you the admods' faces if you don't give consideration to point #1, otherwise you'll make a lot of people angry...

3. I may be just under 1 month of being a member but I DO bring up good points hopefully...

If you have something to say Mallow, say it. No need to be passive-aggressive :)

.... i don't understand.. i'm not being passive aggressive... I'm somewhat concerned, of course... but i'm rather calm and content in the general sense..
Have i said something that suggests otherwise?

i don't know.. does anyone here think i'm being passive aggressive? .. or is voicing concerns under the umbrella of "passive aggressiveness"? i'm not even angry... i rarely am.

The following policy will be added to the ToS:

We know that there are people that disagree with AVEN, and we respect their right to disagree. However, we also have the responsibility to take care of our membership within AVEN. If a website has been found to be harmful to our members (through harassment, bullying, etc.), we may remove their links from AVEN and/or ban the posting of links from that website. Note that each case will be considered individually to determine if there are grounds to remove links based on harmful behaviors.

I haven't read all of the thread, so forgive me if it's been brought up already, but I don't understand how this is not covered already by this bit of the ToS?

While the administrators and moderators of the forum will attempt to remove or edit any generally objectionable material as quickly as possible, it is impossible to review every message. Therefore, you acknowledge that all posts made to these forums express the views and opinions of the author and are not necessarily representative of AVEN staff (except for posts by these people) and hence AVEN staff will not be held liable.

You agree that the webmasters, administrators and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time, should they see fit.

It is covered by that part of the ToS. The team voted to expand on that to specifically include links to threads or other that specifically bully or harass AVEN members.

Mmmm yes I do understand that, but why, if it was already covered? I mean, we could see the importance of expanding it in a thousand different directions (links to illegal porn, links to illegal streaming website, links to acephobic/homophobic/transphobic/racist/etc content), so I don't know that it's necessarily a good idea to expand a very broad and useful rule into something much more specific that is already covered. Seems like hours of work and discussion for something not necessary, when the already existing rule could have been reminded to the members, if there was the need for it.

The policy thread should be declassified soon so people can see the discussion (policy threads are declassed asap now). I think the bullying and harassing issue was focused on because of a general increase in cyber bullying. I don't know what else to say. Like I said, I agree that it was covered but I voted for the new addition because it didn't seem entirely unnecessary to clarify.

Hey Shieldy... Long time no see...

We all know what the end result will be.. It's not like AVEN just thought of this on a whim.

Most, if not all, policy/rule amendments to the ToS are usually spurred by a need that is discovered or a thought of a beneficial preventative measure. That's pretty much how it works. And rules are applied to future instances/incidents, rather than being retroactive. If you look at archives, it's a common theme over the years.

Not sure what you mean by this. The rule is in the first post if you wish to review it :)

I know... I meant is there any developments on it other than the last two comments I last posted? Love how you use one of the many names of the fairy we all know if you read Shakespearean plays...

But this midsummer's night hasn't ended or even started yet since summer is not yet over...

Ah, nope. It looks as though the admods think the rule as written works for AVEN as of right now. Thank you for sharing your concerns. :)

Good... But is it easier to understand now or is it still written as the one seen on the first page?

Nope. :P

I actually don't know the last time (or if) the AdMods altered something presented to members after concerns were brought up over wording etc. (That is, on rules that were decided without first asking for opinions on the board.)

If anyone can point me to a time, I'd be interested to read it! :D Now I'm curious. *wanders off into old Archives*

Also, JUST now realized your avatar is Simba... ROFLMAO in mime form...

Looking through this thread it seems like a lot of people are confused by the wording of this rule; it wasn't just me.  Why have the admods decided not to change it if it's confusing to members?  Shouldn't admods be aiming for something that can be understood the first time, without having to ask follow-up questions?  After a while this thread will fade into obscurity, and members won't have an easy place to ask questions about what this rule is saying.  It's also hard for members to follow a rule if they don't understand precisely what it's saying.

I'm not saying the rule absolutely has to change right now, but I'm curious what the reasoning is.
