So a friend says to me, "If you're not interested in attracting a mate, why do you wear those fishing lures in your ears?"

My answer: They entertain me and contribute to the persona I project to the public. (Being an extreme introvert, I'm always playing a character in public in order to function.)

I do not wear make-up because it's far too much trouble and I consider it a waste of my time. But I do tend to wear long, flamboyant earrings. I don't think the only reason for decorating oneself is to attract mates. How one looks affects the reactions and assumptions of everyone one meets, potential mate or not. Accentuating ones sexuality is not the only reason for decorating ones body. So there, anyway. :P

I have 2 holes in one ear and 1 in the other, though I usually only wear one stud in a single ear because of my martial art. I don't wear make-up. On the very rare occasion I'll mess around with it, but its more for my own amusement than anything else. But I don't like to look like a complete slob (most of the time). I mean even if you aren't trying to attract someone, if you want respect and to be taken seriously, and not have people run from you for smelling, you still need to take care of yourself. Though, I do admit liking to look attractive every once in a while, mostly to torture my ex *L*

I have a total of nine holes in my ears, but I only wear studs or very small hoops in them. Anything bigger is just uncomfortable. I did most of them myself.. not even for decoration, really, so much as a test of my tolerance for pain. 8)

And I hate makeup. Makes my eyes itch, and also I'll forget it's on and end up smearing it whenever I touch my face. I used to wear eye makeup when I was in my wannabe-goth phase, but I don't even own any makeup anymore, apart from some concealer that I use occasionally.

Me too. It's really annoying when I am forced to wear makeup I smudge like almost immediatelyby rubbing my eyes, it's like a reflex. I can't help it.

Just thinking about rubbing my eyes makes me want to rub my eyes. *rubs eyes*

There's a New Guinea tribe which decorate their bodies with flowers and bright colors every day, not to attract mates but to entice their souls to remain in their bodies.

Body decorations are rarely about attracting mates.

I don't wear earrings.

I wear a little lipstick, but I don't count that as wearing make-up. 90% of the reason I wear it is to stop my lips drying out (I don't like having greasy stuff on my lips).

Make-up it far to much effort, and I usually make myself look ill. And I usually end up rubbing it or smudging it within five minutes because I'm always touching my face. Oh, and my skin complains a lot if I put anything on it.

I use neither. Being into fishing, flies and lures do catch my attention. Also when used for personal decoration. But my thoughts ... take me to the river.

I wear funky earrings when I'm going to a fun thing but otherwise I never think about putting them in. I've never worn make up. Mostly because it smells bad.

I'm afraid of needles, so no, I don't wear earrings. On the other hand, I've always wanted a pair of something spiny or weird, something maybe that crawls up my ear, or a pair of large silver hoops, or something dangly-but-freaky... think Lovecraftian jewelry. :P NON EUCLIDEIAN JEWELRY :o

Makeup... I wear it occasionally, just because. Usually for no reason. I enjoy beauty, and I like to look striking... not sexy, mind you. Striking. Something that catches your attention... it's for that reason that I tend to wear very strange clothing. Never anything revealing becuase that bothers me, but usualy colourful and flowy or skin-tight, depending on my mood.

I have a bunch of holes in my ears, but I don't wear makeup. I hate the greasy feel of it and I don't feel like I need it anyway. I don't like looking made-up.

What do earings have to do with "attracting a mate"? I got my ears peirced at about 7 years old because I decided I wanted my ears pierced and the average human is asexual at that age anyway.

Screw-backed earings only, never clip-ons or pierced, on rare occasions. (5-10 days a year?)

Make up if I'm in a play and can't argue my way out of it. (5 days this past decade?)

I have no piercings. They would just get in the way.

I wear makeup some times when I go out. (Hey, if the Undertaker uses black eyeliner, then I can use it too ) I voted "never" though, because the amount of times I go out nowdays is negligible.

Neither.

I never think they are used to attract a mate. :o

Does wearing makeup too often lead to premature aging?

I have piercings, tattoos, and frequently wear gothic makeup for fun. It's all about putting on a persona, and nothing about attracting a mate. My friends, male and female, usually all wear makeup, nailpolish, or lipstick when going out. Almost none of them wear it day to day.

That sounds so neat.

I have three piercings, two in my left ear, one in my right. I love wearing jewelry. I don't see it as trying to attract a mate... I just enjoy being able to wear the jewelry I make. As for makeup, I only wear it if I have to. I'm far too allergic to it to use it often.

Wearing makeup would tend to prevent premature aging, as solar damage accounts for most of aging and makeup blocks sunlight.

Some types of make up dry out the skin on the face.

I got my left ear pierced a year ago, during a bet. I took it out after two weeks because I thought that the idea of earrings was rather silly.

In order facilitate the closure of the ear hole, I took a scalpel and scraped away some of the scar tissue around the piercing hole. It did not hurt at all, as it was a really sharp scalpel.

It closed up completely within two weeks, and now there is not even a scar, to remind me of the piercing. This is a good thing , because I do not want to remember my momentary lapse of idiocy.

I have two holes in each ear, and I adore my earrings, although now I'm usually only ever found with studs in my ears. I still have delightfully wacky and cool earring that come out every now and again.

Makeup I only wear on special occasions or for fancy dress. Unless it's for fancy dress it's never over the top, just a little foundation to hide the dark circles under my eyes if I've been particularly stressed and lip gloss.

... but I tend generally to be positively affected by the company of people wearing something they like and makes them feel good.

Wow, I tell myself that everyday.... and I think it's a pretty big reason I'm driving myself nuts. Anyways, I've got a single piercing on my left ear, I still remember those old school rules about dudes and ear rings so, heh. I used to wear a loop that was just big enough to get around the lobe of my ear (I never was flashy), but I lost it and since my current job wont let me wear one anyways, I've gone without one for nearly a year now. Though I just stuck a paperclip through there about 2 weeks ago cause I was curious of it was still open. ( I bore easily)

No makeup, no earrings or other jewelry (unless you count my watch and glasses). I do like my glasses big and dark-rimmed, though.

neither here... I only wear makeup when people decide it would be fun to play dress up. I don't have my ears pierced

I wear both. I especially enjoy wearing huge rings and bracelets set with semi-precious stones like malachite, varascite, turquoise and amber. I like rocks, and I like wearing rocks! Earrings, I like dangly and unusual.

Makeup, well if I didn't need it, I wouldn't wear it except for eye makeup. At this point I need all the help I can get though.
