Not into video games

I'm noticing a trend toward asexuals with hobbies like gaming, tv, manga. I wonder why this this. If it's an age thing? Geographical? Anyone here not into that stuff? I'm in my mid-thirties and don't do those things at all.

Probably just the general demographics of the internet.

That would be my guess. A lot of the folks on this board are early 20s or younger, too.

I'm not into video games, anime, or manga. My TV habits vary, but a lot of the time it's just background noise.

I think you guessed it right with age. Someone who is in their late 20s today is at the age which someone would grow when things like video games or anime exploded.

I'm 10 years older. - The only previous family member who was like me absolutely not into TV was one of my grandmothers who watched that technology evolve. I do use Youtube though.

Manga? = Something dinosaurs like me aren't familiar with. - Period!

Gaming? - It has already been around when I was a young teen. - I did it to some extend later. - But I am honestly more the cyber-socializer than somebody getting lost in a recently purchased $50(?) DVD.

I'm 45,and video games have about zero interest.

More surprising is that as the hairs get greyer I watch less and less TV.

I'm not interested in video games or television. I attribute the former to my age (late 50s) and also lack of technological interest and adeptness, but I know others my age who like it. And I used to watch TV but stopped about two years ago and don't miss it at all (though I do occasionally watch a movie on Netflix.)

I was into role playing and gaming when I was younger.  I haven't lost interest per se, but life got in the way.  I've never been into video games.  Mostly because I suck at them.  My hand-eye coordination is super bad!!  I've tried my fair share, but never got into them.

I was born in the '80s so I'm the right demographic, but I never got into video games. We had an Atari and a Nintendo at my house, but I rarely used either. Atari had a Cookie Monster game I remember playing, usually when I was sick.

I'm 27 and not into any of those things, but I would definitely agree that it is an age thing based on the ages of the people I have met who like those things. I wonder if maybe a lot more younger asexuals are out than older? Or maybe there are more young asexuals who use the internet.

I am not into games, although I played a mean game of Centipede, Asteroids and Donkey Kong in the arcades of the 80's.  Oddly enough, my mother took up computer games like solitare and casino games after the age of 85 for the last five years of her life.   I showed her how to use the computer hardware and game software, and those games kept her from getting bored in old age.

I'm abysmal at most video games; largely a generational thing, but am further cursed by a lack of dexterity in my fingers. My handwriting has always been awful. I do much better  with large-muscle activities,  so I can handle '80s arcade games and the Wii passably well.

I used to be a pretty good Pac-Man player, back in my youth.  I have a few friends who still play video games, but most of us are busy with other things these days.

It is probably because people who are very into staring into pixels all the time tend to deprecate actual reality by doing so, lack social skills, don't have any or many friends, etc., let alone an ability to engage sexually with anyone. In a way the simulated reality of the entertainment industry seems so much more interesting, except that a simple walk outside will always be more of an exploration than any vidya game.

Here is a Youtube link to an interesting related documentary:

The Korean Children In Internet Rehab

During that scene Korean internet/gaming addicts are taken to an amazing outdoor obstacle course and they admit the thrills of real life, exceed anything possible in vidya games. Alot of modern people are substituting surrogate online, vidya game and pixel based reality for real life. Even amongst the average person, people watch way too much tv, stay online too much, vidya game too much. Even on summer days when I bicycle in fairly dense Northern NJ I am often shocked how few people are actually outside besides shopping areas on beautiful days.

Nope.  I just don't want to get that far away from reality.

I'm 44 and I love video games! I think I'm nevertheless a pretty normal person; I have a good job, good friends, and other hobbies.

I played a few games but was always a total scrub, so I gave it up. I never got into anime because it wasn't a North American thing during my younger years. Television is something I grew up with but I came to despise it because of the TV always blaring beside my ear during dinner (my family are near-addicts of TV). I listened to a lot of radio as a small kid and still prefer Spotify to Youtube.

I'm soon to be 40 and I love video games, it was my hobby growing up and I never really moved on to other stuff. Same with scifi, comics to a certain extent (I read but no longer collect, that's as much to do with not being a fan of the current product rather than thinking comics are for kids) and to a lesser extent anime.

I remember Space Invaders stealing one of my friends away for days at a time in the early 1980s, but I never got the point of these games at all. Nor do I understand box sets of TV shows. But I'm old fashioned, so I don't mind the anticipation of waiting for next week's episode.

I wonder whether my apraxia may have something to do with my disinterest in games

I played video games when I was younger, but I just grew out of it I guess. I'll play Sims now and again.

As for TV, I watch less and less of it as I get older. Most shows don't hold my interest or don't interest me at all.

Anime freaks me out a bit. It's the big eyes and weird facial expressions.

I am 52 and an avid gamer, and I know many others who are. Don't think gaming is a generation thing. Might though also depend on the game. I have played many mmorpgs, and especially Lotro (Lord of The Rings Online) has a high amount of 'mature' players, as well as many female gamers among them. CoD (Call of Duty), I would think is more for teens to in their 30s, yet I am certain players past that can be found there too. Met few females in Swtor (Star Wars the Old Republic), and fewer 'older' players, but GW (Guild Wars) 1 and 2 both seemed to have attracted mature players. Even Runescape - loads of players 40+

I'd not reject it straight away. I also met quite a few 'older' players who said they had never thought they like it, but grand kids got them into it, and gran and grandpa turned out more passionate than the young ones :P

Not into anime, and don't watch TV. I game instead *smirks* (and really good for reflexes, especially pvp - player versus player)

I'm a nearly 48 Years old gamer who enjoy games, boards games, card games, computer games, puzzles including jigsaws, name it. I quit watching TV before my twenties as I realized I spent more time searching for something interresting or entertainning to watch than watching something I actually enjoyed.

I do spent a lot of time on a chair before the comp, especially that nowedays you can find everything and for free online (binging old and new TV series when I feel up to it) but I also spent a lot of time outside and in the pub. Being a single aro ace and not obsessed with cleaning the apartment on a daily basis I've a lot of time to spent for stuff I enjoy.

When I was in my early and mid 20s I gamed 80+ hours a week, mainly WoW. Now in my mid 30s I don't care about gaming like I once did. I still game but it's due to lack of anything better to do. I don't read manga but I love a good anime. I watch some Netflix and YouTube but I haven't had MSO TV in many years.

I'm about your age, and while I like some anime, I'm not into video games. I might do board games sometimes, but not much.

So the typical hobbies aren't your thing, so what DO you like? I'm more interested in what folks are into, when it's not video games or YouTube channels.

I read a lot, sew some, do a bit of coloring, exercise a lot, draw once in a while, visit friends, go dancing at clubs, and wish I had a hiking buddy for easy to moderate nature wanderings.

I'm 29 I'm not really into gaming or anime or anything like that. I don't even have a tv but I do watch Netflix and YouTube a lot. I am trying to make friends and find it really hard because I haven't met any where I live and it does seem like I dont fit in online either. I feel like I'm in a no mans land that I'm too old to make friends but mentally I feel younger than I really am.

I used to be a hardcore gamer -- mostly point & click adventures.  Now, in my late 40s, I game less than I used to, but still enjoy replaying old favourite adventures from time to time, or spending a couple of hours here and there with online casual/puzzle games.  It's still a fun pastime for me.  My passion has moved back to books, which were my first love.
