my big surprise: "androgynous-undifferentiated"

I took the gender test someone posted in another thread and got close to a shock. I'm low-masculine and low-feminine, total is 34%. The label is "androgynous-undifferentiated." Instead of guessing what that means, I'd like to ask for people to give me input.

So I got a very similar result and was pretty surprised too, but from a brief google and from what someone else told me, apparently it just means that the test was unable to categorize your personality as stereotypically feminine or stereotypically masculine. It may say something about how the world is likely to perceive you, but this test isn't meant to tell you what you actually are.

So essentially if you identify as male or female and feel like your chosen gender then stick with that :) I have noticed with me that whilst I identify as female I do possess a few more male tendencies but don't feel male, and on reflection don't possess as many female personality traits and tendencies as my female friends. I wouldn't say its something to base your identity on since it mainly tests you on stereotypical gender roles and traits :)

Thanks for that clarification. It helps.

Yeah what patchworkdaydreams said.

It's just a test and shouldn't define your gender for you. I got undifferentiated androgynous too but hey at least it gives you some insight. You could do some research on the term androgynous if you would like to know more about the term on it's own but if you are fine indentifying as male then i'd just stick to that one, same counts for if you indentify as female. I kinda found some of the questions a bit too stereotypical for my taste but that didn't take a way the fact that it was interesting to take it.

I actually got "typically masculine" which is surprising and not surprising at the same time xD

Take online test results with a grain of salt. I've had online tests tell me I was a straight up sociopath. :P

There are things I have to think about. I don't look like what most people would call androgynous, but I have a soft body like I no longer get testosterone without my body being feminine. Also, I'm both cerebral and moody. I have both verbal and spatial skill, although the verbal is much more developed. i'm not saying those things are definitive, but they made me think about what that test says.

That test assesses gender roles, not gender.

Oh yeah. I've had some online test results tell me that I was straight.

Sometimes it's fun though, to see how accurate or incredibly inaccurate they can be.

Okay, let me get into this... I want to say that "it's just a quiz, don't look too much into it", but I feel like it might be dismissive. I think that a more accurate thing for me to say is to understand that quizzes aren't always the best at being reliable and how it's best to get any confirmation in person (trying to keep this really general), but there are some quizzes that might actually teach you something that you have not known before. So it might interest you into doing some research and know more about that subject and there is no harm in that. It would only help.

Now personally, I got the same results too and I scored average on both masculine and feminine. The only thing that surprised me is how I expected to score even lower scores in both. Now that I think about it, it does make sense. I've always known that I was a fairly even split between masculine and feminine and just a very small wee bit leaning more masculine. I even sometimes have a hard time understanding or explaining what my gender is to myself (and I don't mean just labels). I felt like neither a boy or a girl.... but also I kind of felt like both (which I thought is weird because that's kind of contradictory, especially since I know I'm not genderfluid because I feel this way all the time). And I'd explain that "both" part with my fairly even split with masculinity and femininity. Which I feel is more accurate to say, rather than that I feel like both genders. And because if that, I feel like agender fits me well.

That's just my personal experience, maybe that can help you. :)

I need to do some real secondary research on this, and I tend to piss around in everything I do, which wouldn't be good enough in this case. Someone suggested I consult "a specialist," but I don't know what kind of specialist would be appropriate. Can some assist with that? And if there are other things I can do, please let me know.

It has a few things to think about but it just should be taken with a grain of salt. If i had to believe all tests i took then i'd be a gender mess.I think that you should just stick to what you indentify as and maybe do some research on the term androgyne to learn more about it. Just don't pin yourself to much on it as it only defines gender roles and not gender on it's own. I hope you find what you are looking for if you decide to do some research. I can reccomend doing some research to learn more but like others said it shouldn't define your gender for you, thats something only you can do for yourself.
