Hi, there, everyone.

Let's all, please, remember the TOS about being respectful towards other members, each others' different viewpoints, etc. without swearing at each other, vigilante modding (i.e. ordering other members around), etc.

Just a friendly reminder that if there is/are a post(s) that concern you, that the TOS mentions notifying Admods for help through PM or AVEN's report system.

Thank you.

I can see its unlikeability. It’s just Dig Dug

You don't like DigDug? That was about my favorite video game for years!

If the flag looks like DigDug that's a bonus in my book!

@SmallBean, your photo loaded really slowly for me, and in sections, so I was waiting breathlessly, all like "is it a unicorn cake? I think that's a horn. Ooh, now I see the ears! OOOH, IT'S A UNICORN CAKE!!!!  So anyway, thanks for that little bit of joy.

Welcome, @ConfusedAroGirl

For all of y'all that live in the US and celebrated Thanksgiving, how did that go for people? My thanksgiving was fine- I ate a lot and didn't really talk with anyone. Ooh, but after thanksgiving my aunts had a rehearsal for a Christmas gig they're doing, and I somehow ended up playing percussion on almost every song. I started with just a snare, but every time we had a short break I would leave and return with a cymbal, then brushes, then a maraca (that I gripped with my toes)-- it was so much fun.

Also, @Hayis4horses, I know it's a little belated, but are you alright? All the fires in California are a little scary right now, and I know that you live there. You safe?

Oohh @Athena32 I love percussion haha, when someone in my music class randomly starts playing something, I always go for the percussion, but damn how much did you have in the end?😂

Mine was great! It was pretty low key, really - none of my siblings have SO's at the moment so it was just my immediate family and one aunt and uncle. We did eat pretty early though because my sister had to work that night, so that was a little different (but not necessarily worse). I also picked up some deeply discounted games on Steam and had some time to try them out, which is always fun!

It was pretty good! Aside from a distant family member who asked me if I liked anyone... that was awkward.

I am totally fine. I don't live next to the fires, so I didn't have to evacuate or anything. The smoke however, did accumulate in my area, a lot. We had pretty bad air quality ranging from Unhealthy to Very Unhealthy (luckily never Hazardous). But, for the past few days it has been raining and so the Camp Fire is 90 something percent contained, and the air quality is Good in my area. In fact in all of California the air quality is Good or Moderate. 😁

Mine was okay, I had to put up with my very political and religiously conservative cousins and grandparents but compared to most Thanksgivings it was pretty good. Amazingly politics never came up and religion only came up a few times. Although they really don't appreciate humour. It wasn't even off-colour humour and was only mildly sarcastic but I completely failed my attempts to humour them in their view (I was proud of myself though!).

Mine was pretty good! I have a very large extended family, and we always go to my uncle's house. But my grandma is pretty sick, so this year we held it closer to home. It was weird, with the location change and girlfriends of my cousins being there, but nice. And, only one day of making awkward conversation instead of two!

@Hayis4horses glad you're okay. My parents lived in California for a while and some of their friends lost their homes.

Hi guys, I just found this thread looking at another post, and I'm glad it exists. It's great having the help of older members but its also nice to be able to talk to other teens. Anyways, is anyone else literally dying from school? I'm so sad Thanksgiving break is over, I literally have so much work to do ugh

Yep. It's not the work that bothers me (although it is annoying), it's the people and the whole school climate. I hate it.

Agreed. Sometimes people just suck and there's nothing we can do about it. Plus I'm always stressed because my group at school is pretty competitive, and we're always competing for rank. I barely sleep because of the pressure lol

That's horrible, I know how excessive competition can suck. I don't really get enough sleep either, though I try (okay, I really don't).

Well it's complicated, but to keep it short: I always wad that perfect student that never skipped any class and had the greatest grades, but this year I lost all my motivation and I don't do anything for school anymore, but I do want to, so yes school is pretty shit for me rn, as teachers started to see me very different

I hate assignments like essays because they're so easy to procrastinate, so my frontloading doesn't pay off. Best part of school, am I right?

also, I had a pretty good thanksgiving. The first days of break I was really busy working, then the binge messed everything up. I'm pretty much back to normal now though.

That's me, although I still am that way and it is so nerve-wracking. I have all A's now, but I am in a state of mild panic every day. I put a lot of pressure on myself I guess. Having no motivation sounds refreshing but then all the professors who never call on me because they think I know every answer would start calling on me, and I often don't know the answer.

KInda off topic, but maybe not?

This is my second year of high school and I'm still trying to get used to studying... I was one of those students who understood everything in class, maybe gave the notes a once-over, then got a 95-100 on the test.

Now, despite changing my study habits, my core classes are all high 80s or low 90s. And god forbid my grade drops below an 85, my parents think it's the end of the world (Even though both of them failed classes before) And then my parents get mad at me if it takes me more than an hour and a half to do my homework.

Also, I'm a H U G E procrastinator.

So yeah, high school's super fun😑😑

I'm having this problem right now as well. I've just gotten to the point where I have to start studying more for tests, and i'm not used to it at all. It doesn't help that I always end up pushing all of the studying back to the last minute...

honestly me right now😂

but yeah, I end up studying the night before because I have so much other schoolwork to do, and if it's Chemistry, I don't study until my lunch block.

That's me! Except I have this one teacher who asks questions to the class, and no one raises their hand. So she ends up calling on me whether I have my hand raised or not. I try not to be that kid that answers every question, but this teacher just sort of forces it to happen.

Yeah, sophomore year can be tough. I'd try to break the procrastination habit now, if you can because it makes school life way less stressful. But don't stress too much about it, school generally gets harder for everyone around that time.

I've found the app/website Quizlet really helpful when it comes to studying. It's basically a platform that lets you create and share virtual flashcards, so you can either make your own or study flashcards that others have made. Also, if your school (or the area around your school) has a library, you can try studying there so your parents don't get on your back about taking too long (which, by the way, is the most bizarre thing I've ever heard). Plus it's nice and quiet.

As for procrastination, a planner really does the trick for me, but different things work for different people. I've heard that other people find study groups and phone time out apps particularly helpful, though I've never tried them myself. And a change of environment can sometimes help too, so that library thing I mention earlier is now doubly effective!

All that aside, if it's any comfort, know that I didn't get my study habits really together until junior year, so it's hardly the end of the world. I'm going to second Maya here and say that sophomore year is just generally crummy for everyone - it was definitely my worst year (and it was the only time I've hit C level 😜). But, from a college application perspective, it's generally better to have bad years early in high school and improve later as opposed to completely burning out early and having your grades drop later - the former shows growth, the latter suggests that you're a slacker.

Oh and get 8 hours of sleep. Or 6 if you're one of those people.
