Reputable Sources/References for Topics in PPS

LeChat
Message added by LeChat,

Hi, everyone.

This is a helpful and informative reminder about the TOS (e.g. 2.3 "Offensive and bigoted content"), regarding making sure that links aren't sources to things like bigoted content, anti-vax propaganda, and harmful misinformation about BIPOC, LGBT+, as a few examples.

One tip, as an example, is about how the links that were listed--particularly in the first post--were official, government links and professional resources, the kind that are used and listed for professional research papers/journals.

I hope this helps!

So many of you I'm sure often get challenged for evidence and/or sources to back up any statements you make and its good to be challenged to avoid the spread of misinformation. So I thought I would be nice and include some handy and reputable sources you can use and link on any posts you make, at least the scientific ones :) I know it can be daunting to pull up one of these sites and poke through them looking for information, but each one has either an index, a search feature or both, so hopefully you won't have trouble finding your references.

*Note: one does NOT have to use these sources to be considered valid, for criteria about valid resources scroll to the bottom

Note: I have taken the time to also run these sites through a tool I use that verifies the authenticity and reliability of these sites

*I will add to this list in the future*

*Note:You dont have to reference any of these websites. As long as the website you reference contains reputable sources and/or references within its contents, it too can be considered valid.

For a Criteria on what to look for in choosing sources, the links below have proven quite useful:

Pew research is a reputable census site if you wanna add that.

Ok, I check it out and see if it meets the criteria to be considered a reputable and reliable resource.

Thank you for doing this, Bunny. Hopefully people will use these sources instead of some random's personal website that confirms their misinformation.

Aww I'm glad!! :D I made this list back in the day when people in the Hot Box were using really really bad sources and they were constantly questionsing each others sources so I was like "ok guys, just calm down and use these"

The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy is an extremely useful resource for all things philosophy related (I think most philosophy students today are dependent on it to one degree or another).

I agree, it's a very useful resource and is peer reviewed and the articles are written by those philosophers who are experts in the article's field. (Although I do wonder how it could be useful as a source in political debate when numbers are wanted.)

And knowing that my following criticism is useless:

Most of the sources seem to be very centred around North America and it would be nice to have more diversity. Yet I can't recommend any sites instead.

This is pretty good for checking out sources: https://mediabiasfactcheck.com

It lets you know specifically where a source is untrustworthy, and where it isn't. It also rates bias and reliability. You can use it to know whether you can trust specific articles from sources based on the article's content.
