Definitely. Well, you can't humanely do so or if you want votes.

Frankly, and without hyperbole... I think the best thing for America post-Trump would be a Nuremberg-style investigation of every single GOP politician, enforced dissolution of the party, and a massive reform of the entire political system (talking full-on Constitutional Convention here).

I have my doubts that it will happen... but you bet I think it should.

I agree. I think we need to look into who the problems are and break apart their power base. I also think something similar should happen with the Democratic party.

And I've heard worse completely serious suggestions. Someone I know, completely seriously, believes we should have a full bloody revolution where we take the politicians who betrayed their base and stick their heads on spikes as a message to future politicans.

Not only are they hurting their reputations, but eventually the hurt trickles down to the rest of the country. The fact of the matter is, a country cannot be run like a business.

He didn't run his business well, either -- it was a familly organization, and the sons and daughter probably bailed him out often.  While he was campaigning in 2016, he tried to get a loan from Deutsche Bank and they turned him down.   So not only did he have no governing  experience, he was a lousy businessman.

Which is why America won't stand for much longer if no one cooperates.

And since there has been some talk about sending 5000 troops to Venezuela for a coup that is backed by the US and the EU in a vietnam like scenario.

Highly doubt it, just like an attack on North Korea. It would make no sense (considering the strong allies Venezuela has such as Russia that surely would intervene, as would China), and would only bring catastrophic results for the US army. The collateral and humanitarian damage wouldn't be worth it, regardless of how oil rich that they are.

This would be Iraq war part II.

The Trump-Russia Investigation and the Mafia State

Will Trump Survive Mueller?

Politics and More Podcast

"Washington is abuzz with rumors that the special counsel Robert Mueller’s report is coming soon. We know that Donald Trump’s Presidency depends on its contents. But with all the headlines of the past two years—this one brought in for questioning, that one indicted, this one coöperating—it can be hard to keep track of what this is really all about. We asked the staff writer Adam Davidson, who has been reporting on the Mueller investigation since the beginning, for a refresher on the basic facts—the broad strokes of what we’ve learned so far. Both parties are strategizing to position themselves for the unknown."

There is a difference between the EU stance and the Trump stance on Venezuela. Both support the opposition, and recognise the opposition leader as president. However the EU don't want or support military intervention, as Venezuela has not taken aggressive military action against neighbouring States. I'm not convinced that the USA does either, but its a cheap comment by DT, probably made without having broached the subject with his NSA

Trump doesn't talk to anyone about anything, and most often he doesn't seem to remember what he said the day before yesterday.

How 21 Savage got arrested theory.

Donald Trump: Look at this! This is why the blacks are so un-American, and what is he doing with his mouth?

Sarah Huckabee Sanders: It's called rapping, sir.

Donald Trump: WRAPPING?

Kelly Ann Conway: Rapping, sir.

Donald Trump: SO UN-AMERICAN! I BET HE'S NOT EVEN FROM AMERICA!

Sarah Huckabee Sanders: Well out sources say-

Donald Trump: Good, have ICE pay him a little visit.😈

Is it just me or do the US simply not know that there's a huge difference between being social and being socialist?

I believe it's taken much like facism in that a lot of people believe it to be negative and horrible but don't actually understand what it entails. If someone I know tries to explain why some socialist policies are a good thing, I know a lot of people who hear "socialist" and start screaming about communists and Russians or Nazis.

Since the US is built on right-wing ideas of classic liberalism/libertarianism... is anyone actually surprised?

This isn’t anything new. It’s McCarthyism and the Red Scare, just with different characters.

It is worse, much worse.  McCarthyism and the Red Scare (which were the same thing), the problems were overlaid over a reasonably-operating underlying government.  Trump has made many changes and deletions to that underlying government with his executive orders, which will not be easy to repair or remake when he leaves the Presidency.  His appointments to major departments have changed how those departments work.

Unfortunately, it's not only the US. In certain European countries you're basically considered a left-wing extremist when you believe that deliberately letting people drown in the Mediterranean Sea is a crime.

At his recent rally in El Paso he said he/we were 1 for 1 in his winning elections, and that if he wins again he will be 2 for 0. 🙄

Thank heavens that the number of terms is limited. He could be 3 for -1 in 2024 :D

Reminded me of that old joke of eight people in a room. Now ten of them leave that room, which means that two have to come back so that the room is empty.

State of emergency powers are terrifying and anyone who isn't bothered by the prospect of Trump abusing that authority should have their heads examined at the very least. The sad thing is the Republican leadership in Congress seem like the are prepared to go along with him on this. This it the biggest threat to American democracy in my lifetime, and that's no exaggeration.

Here's an article from the Atlantic that talks about some of the things it could mean.

Declaring martial law is the next step after declaring a state of emergency. If Trump does that, then it's possible that Americans won't be allowed to leave the country.

Er, stupid question... has this situation reached USSR-under-Stalin-level panicking time yet? Because a very large part of me is wanting to panic right about now.

Don't panic! (really).  This is NOT like declaring martial law.  A lot of previous presidents have used their "emergency powers"  and many emergency orders are still outstanding.  They are for things like boycotting countries we don't like or sending aid for emergencies etc.   I think all the recent presidents have used these.

Martial law is suspending the normal rules of law enforcement and courts-  completely different.

What is unusual here is that he is using his powers to do something that congress specifically did not agree to - not just as a shortcut to speed things up.

There will be legal challenges to his use of these powers.   There will be legal challenges to the land purchases / seizures needed.  Challenges from the military when he takes their money.   If the Democrats are smart, they will just sit back and watch this play out.

This particular move doesn't worry me.  Its a sort of desperation move, a sign that his power is weak not strong.  Also the group it will most piss off is likely the military, and as long as he doesn't have military support, he isn't that dangerous.

The democrats just need a reasonable (eg, not socialist) candidate.   (social democrat is fine, but a democratic socialist is a whole different thing).

No, declaring martial law is a specific situation which gives the executive police powers.  A State of Emergency can executed for a number of reasons.  However, Trump's going to run into trouble when he takes $$ from one pot to put it toward his $*%@!! wall, because technically the Constitution says that funding governmental projects is within Congress's purview, not the executive.   However, Congressio.  nal Republicans will have to join the Congressional Democrats to make a fuss about it, and they're unlikely to go against a President of their own party  McConnell has already said it's OK with him.
