Improving Research on Asexuality through AVEN

Hello AVENites and the Asexual Community,

In response to an increase in the frequency of research requests pertaining to asexuality, the staff here at AVEN reworked how research will be organized and processed through the forums. This is in hopes to continue the current research boom asexuality is experiencing, and to make our own methods of processing much more efficient. This announcement comes in two parts.

Part One:
A new subforum has been created named "Research Requests and Studies" ; it has been nestled under Announcements. This is the new location that all research advertisements will go under rather than crowd up the Announcement Forums. All threads will have a deadline date (a point where the research will be considered closed), and will subsequently be locked to better help participants identify which research requests are active at the moment.

In the event that advertising numbers decrease due to being a subforum, the Project Team and AVEN staff are willing to re-evaluate if the Research Requests and Studies Forum should be a stand-alone forum rather than a subforum.

Part Two:
AVEN now has a Research Approval Board that has the sole purpose of analyzing and processing research requests. All members of the Research Approval Board, for the moment, will consist of members that have held an AVEN staff position since March 16th, 2016. Additionally, there are various rules in place for Research Approval Board Members to follow in hopes to ensure participation, efficiency, and consistency throughout processing and analysis of requests.

As the Research Approval Board is still in the early stages, there may be changes in the future. However, in the hopes of expanding asexual research - especially visibility and education - the Staff at AVEN have felt this to be a step forward.

I, Steph, will be answering any questions the community may have regarding the new subforum and the Research Approval Board. Feel free to submit them.

Thank you very much,

Steph

Hello! This sounds like great news and an effective way to continue to advance important research. I am very interested in trying to work with the quantitative data from the annual census. Do you have oversight of that data as well? On the census wordpress site, it mentions that researchers may be able to gain access to that data. Could you elaborate on the process or requirements to work with that data?

Thank you for your assistance!
