HelloToYou
What's your religion? I am Quaker (a liberal Christian denomination for those of you who don't know).
The Evil Cashew
Hey Hello, just if your interested in knowing there is a poll about religion here: http://asexuality.org/discussion/viewtopic...149&start=0 ~Cashew
Hallucigenia
Wasn't there another thread about this in the Philosophy 'n' Politics forum? Yes, in fact, I think there was. http://www.asexuality.org/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=12334 If you'd like to have a calmer discussion over here, though, I don't see why not. I'm a mainstream, middle-of-the-road Protestant Christian meself. Used to go to an Anglican church but my family moved and I'm now at a Christian Reformed church - I don't necessarially identify as any particular denomination, since many of the differences between them seem very small and nitpicky. KAGU143
I'm going to pick this thread up and very carefully carry it over to the Philosophy and Politics forum. That's where we usually try to keep things that are of a strictly religious nature. -Greybird
Hallucigenia
Uh-oh. Now we're in the big purple arguments box :D Tread carefully.
birdnerd
I'm all in favor of calm discussion. I'm also a Missouri Synod Lutheran.
Hexpiral
Catholic, and I want to keep it calm too.
Vicious Trollop
I've been through several rounds with religion, from desperately wanting to attend church when my family did not, to vehemently opposing all organized religion, and have finally arrived at a place of calm apathy. Actually, I seem to be in that place in several respects in my life right now. Hope that's a phase -- but at the moment, nothing seems right, nothing seems wrong, and I'm not particularly bothered by the implications of that. I suppose I still identify exactly as I did in the religion thread linked above (atheist-leaning agnostic) except now it doesn't seem like a very important thing to say about myself. It's a non-issue. It used to be a HUGE issue. I'm blabbering.
KAGU143
I tend to call myself agnostic, but hopeful. Very calmly, of course. :) -Greybird
HelloToYou
Yes, let's please keep this calm. I do not want to start a debate. Just asking a simple question. I do not mind discussion though.
Tristan
I am Roman Catholic, which is a rather conservative branch of Christianity. However, many (if not most) Americans who are Catholic don't agree with all of the teachings of the Church.
Sirach
Hey Hello, just if your interested in knowing there is a poll about religion here:http://asexuality.org/discussion/viewtopic...149&start=0 ~Cashew Yes, for the moment there, I was wondering why Republicanism is a religion... Doggonit, those Republicans are outsmarting us... I'm a strong Charismatic Catholic Christian here, fully with the Vatican and the teachings of the Catholic Church. Have been through Buddhism, New Age, Wicca, and Pentecostal Christianity. Pondered on Quakerism and Baha'ism once. I love the philosophy in religion :) Yes, and there are atheists leaning to agnostics out there, my friend being one. Be ye all blessed! ^__^
Xenon
Atheist. Always have been.

theblackwatch
I'm an easy agnost. If I wouldn't know better, I'd say 'Humanism' is my religion (because it is one, according to.)
Wild Seven
Something of a zen-buddhist with mix of other religions, thank you very much. *wanna keep it calm too* *holds a candle*
Jesh
I fall somewhere within the agnostic/truth-believing range, but I do practice wicca from time to time.
Jael L
Jewish atheist here - and respectful of others' beliefs. There are aspects of Quakerism that are very attractive to me: respect for silence, peaceful resolution of differences, absence of hierarchies etc. so I'd be interested in hearing more about your religion, Hello, if you feel ok about discussing it here. Pobblebonk
I'm an easy agnost. If I wouldn't know better, I'd say 'Humanism' is my religion (because it is one, according to.) Humanism's a religion? Well I never; in that case I might be religious after all. :) In actual fact I'm an agnostic fascinated by the anthropology, philosophy and history of religions of all sorts, having come round during my development from a childhood atheism to the pragmatic acknowledgment as an adult that religion simply serves no purpose for me - I have my own sense of purpose and of morality and a curiosity about the way the world works that can't be sated by simple appeal to a god, and so the reasons that draw many others to religion have no bearing on my life. theblackwatch
One could indeed say that Humanism is a religion for agnosts, pragmatists and atheists. One of the 'ceremonies' of the Humanist religion is civil marriage ;) And I'm very excited about the Church of Humanism ... ... simply ... Because it doesn't exist! No rules, no Church, no celibacy, NO GOD(s), no sacraments, no "thou shall not divorce", no sacred burial grounds... It's great.
alucard
No religion, but I made up a God of my own. All for myself. And I see no difference between him and other Gods.

I can see note that could be described as religious in nature. Phil
