Everything I apply for, asking if I'm male or female.

What does it matter, if I'm male or female. Why do we still ask this. Unless it's say, something medically related... whether I'm male or female doesn't matter...

Except on this university course application. While there's a biological sex for my records at my main university, I'm going to be "not specified" on this one. ^_^
In fact, anything from now on that has a "not specified" option, will be chosen.

My problem is that while I'm always really happy to find out that something I'm applying for has an "Other" option, I never really know whether it would be more right to pick that or female, because I don't even really understand what it would mean to be mentally female, even though that's what I am physically, so how can I tell if I'm actually female or "other"? :( #GenderConfusedProblems

I had to debate on it at first. "I feel like I should pick my biological sex, but I feel like that's kinda lying... But is the other lying.... Awh I don't know..."

Not entirely an agender problem, say, but,
Saw this on someone's coming out post somewhere:

Them: "I know it's transgender awareness day, and though I'm not transgender, I wanted to come out and say I identify as genderless. Thanks for understanding!"

Someone else: "Wait, what? What is genderless? All I'm picturing is something like two erasers rubbing together... can someone explain this?"

*Face -> palm*

I had a mixture of a laugh and an "are you kidding me" at that one.

I don't get it. Did he just say something completely random? What do erasers have to do with anything? o_O

I'm not sure. I just commented with "Biological sex and gender are two totally different things, if that's where you were going with the eraser thing..."

I couldn't tell if he was being serious and was picturing two sexless people trying to engage in sexual acts, or if he was making a random joke comment.

Is it just me or an Agender thing where you just feel like your not fully in your body? Like almost as if you were an inch or two above your skin...

When people complain about having small boobs. I sit there crossed arms over my bound chest 'hehehehe...so funny guys'

One of my problems is that most days i'm okay with my boobs. I am afab and (mostly due to my parents) have very feminine clothing. On Halloween I were a corset and dress like a witch. However, I am not a girl. When i'm okay with my boobs i like to dress up to make my body look good. But thats all it is: playing dress up.

On the other hand, I have days when i need to bind because i can't stand them. On these days, even when binding, i dont want to look down at myself because i can tell that i still have boobs.

The problem is that even though i know i dont have a gender, some people assume that i'm genderfluid or something similar.

Not a happy time

Heh. I'd just shrug and say you're "presentation fluid" or something. I mean, you could pretty much make a case that that was basically in the range of genderfluid somewhere, anyways. Honestly I think people go too far with trying to dial their identities in perfectly sometimes. There's a huge range that's still soundly inside the boundary of straight cis that everyone just happily chalks up to variation within a type. If you get too precise about what you are, it stops being useful because at a certain point it only describes you.

Having my stepdaughter accidentally use the "wrong" gendered word for "parent" to refer to me to someone on Skype while sitting next to me, and not noticing (I heard her say it, I just didn't register the gender) until a few seconds later when she explodes in a shower of apologies for having misgendering me.. even though really I didn't mind and don't think the other one would have been any better. Thus demonstrating that neither of the times i've come out to her have clicked.

"Are you a boy or a girl?"

Me: "Androgyne"

"No, I don't want to hear androgyne. Do you have a penis or a vagina?"

Me: "Um... why does it matter..?"

"I'm just curious."

Having a friend that keeps calling you lady even though you've told her x-number of times not to because you can't stand that word...

Being in class and you teacher talking about the deference between boys and girls and feeling like a complete outsider...

Absolutely loving your name because it doesn't end with an a or an e

Well, damn it. My birth name ends with an E.

Everything I apply for, asking if I'm male or female.

When there was an "other" gender option, I usually pick that. Even after on my gender journey, I haven't changed any of it. So my Deviantart and Google+ still has a gender of "Other".

Reading a comic about flipping some gender expectations on kids around and going "Haha that's funny.. Wait... Oh crud, I just realized I don't understand it.."

Being at a loss how to explain the confusion..

Actually not knowing that people are trying to get your attention when they call out "sir" or "ma'am" or whatever (say, because you dropped something and they want to give it back to you).

Sometimes I get on the first time that they mean me -- even though they've got my gender wrong -- but sometimes I don't turn around because I honestly don't parse that they're talking to me -- and then when they finally do get my attention, now on top of all the other awkwardness, now I'm dealing with them being all confused why I didn't turn around when they were obviously calling out to me. (For example, they actually had to chase after me and come up to me, and now they're wondering why I was apparently ignoring them.)

The last time this thing happened (someone thought I had dropped something when it actually belonged to someone else), I did recognize right away that when they said "ma'am" they meant me, but I had on my "404 error: gender not found" shirt that day, and after the initial person scuttled off (I told them that no, I hadn't dropped that thing), I got to show the other onlookers, SEE, MY SHIRT, NOT A MA'AM LIKE I TOLD YOU BEFORE!

Public Restrooms

This just about sums it up.

My gender is apparently "Family," "Handicapped," or "Special Needs."

Except when the restrooms are just one-person, like they are in lots of restaurants and the like. Then I take either. I always find it ridiculous when someone waits to use, say, the Ladies' Room if the Men's Room right next to it is open.

I don't :) What difference does (or should) it make, which cubicle you use??

Yeah but if other people are waiting for said single stall restroom and you go to the other one, you get nasty looks and comments. :(

I wish.

I've learned never to go into the "other gender" restroom, even if both are single occupant only, if anyone else is watching. Which is stupid, yes, but otherwise I risk strange looks and helpful "corrections" at best, or really angering people at worst. Here they are, standing in line waiting patiently, really having to go but holding it, and following the "rules" and waiting for the "right" bathroom, and I just ignore them and "cut ahead" by going to the other one? Yeah, not a way to make friends.

And I've learned to not give a fuck about those people :D

EDIT: Okay, maybe I give them a tiiiiny figurative fuck, because I'd rather have them live far away from me than die. But you get what I mean.

I do that, if women's is taken and it's needlessly gendered i'll go into the male restroom and use it. Sometimes i'll use the male bathroom at school. G wing is poorly desined. Womens restrooms are on the 2nd and 4th floor but my class is on 3rd floor. So it's either go up a flight of steps or down a flight of steps. I particularly go to the mens when i'm in this classroom.

Ancestry dot com.

You can only pick male or female, and only one.

Worse, if you put yourself as one, and on someone else's family tree (the family tree created by a relative of yours), you're something else... Guaranteed outing to everyone who looks up anyone in your family.

...I can't be on that site, can I? /sweatdrop/

I've totally gone in the opposite sex single-room bathroom before. If anyone looks at me, well... you're the ones deciding to stand in a line instead of using the perfectly good room over here. ;)

Fact is, my house's bathroom is a single-room unisex, and I'm assuming MOST personal bathrooms are, so single-room bathrooms in public feel the same to me...

Hey, allosexual agenders..

Was trying to explain an annoyance with visual porn-ish imagery to someone and could only come up with "a confusing feeling like being forced to be on both sides of the lens at the same time", and "it's hard to interpret how I should feel to it". I imagine that looking at it is gendered in some weird way that creates a conflict or error..? Is it just me?

Are demiboys welcome on this thread? Because that #AgenderProblem when you have to refer to yourself as a transman when in reality you're just an agender person who likes presenting masculine over feminine because everything is binary.

Definitely done this. I don't know what people think of me for it; I get weird looks for going into the womens restroom sometimes, too.

A couple weeks ago I was at a community center and discovered that they had two bathrooms next to each other--both single-room unisex. No gendered option. I was positively giddy.

Hello! Your experience is my experience. Sort of. In a not feminine but female sort of agender way. Welcome!
