Bela
Hi, this is my first post, but I plan on making others. Anyway, I heard a song this morning that I haven't heard in forever, and it got me to thinking. "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On" by Robert Palmer. It's an 80s song. I think it's about not wanting a one-night-stand, but don't all songs have multiple meanings depending upon perspective? After hearing it, I think it would make a great Asexual Anthem. Any takers?
maco
This reminds me that someone mentioned an AFI song called ...But Home is Nowhere. They essentially suggested that Davey's saying he's asexual (they didn't know the word "asexual" though). It's because the first line is "Twenty-six years and seems like I've just begun to understand my intimate is no one" which could mean that there's no one (of either sex) for him. Androgyny
Oh, thats a good one. I love it, and ya, surprisingly enough, it sounds like an asexual song. I especially liked "And while another would be penetrating/ I'll still be stimulating" Because its saying like, while others need to get off on sex, they're achieving just as much satisfaction from mere holding/"cuddling" edit: i found another good song. We don't have to take our clothes off by jermaine stewart Not a word, from your lips You just took for granted that I want to skinny dip. A quick hit, that's your game. But I'm not a piece of meat, still you like my brain. Night is young, so are we. Let's get to know each other better, slow & easily. Take my hand, let's hit the floor. Shake our bodies to the music. Maybe then you'll score. Chorus: So come on baby, won't you show some class Why you want to move so fast. We don't have to take our clothes off To have a good time Oh no We could dance & party all night And drink some cherry wine Uh huh We don't have to take our clothes off To have a good time Oh no We could dance & party all night (all night) And drink some cherry wine Uh huh Na na na na na na na............ Just slow down if you want me A man wants to be approached cool & romantically I've got needs Just like you If the conversation's good Vibrations through & through So come on baby, won't you show some class Why you want to move so fast We don't have to take outr clothes off To have a good time Oh no We could dance & party all night (all night) And drink some cherry wine Uh huh Na na na na na na......... str8fuknpimpin
I'm not trying to be an overbearing moderator, but, i believe this forum is called "The Library", and if i'm not mistaken, you are talking about a song...is this true? It's just best for everybody, if you stay within the "normal" boundaries of thread topic, just to not cause confusion and to keep things neat and organized. easy
I listened to a finnish song which made me think about asexuality immidiately, lyrics were so alike. It's strange, when you've heard the word 'asexuality' you start to hope you'll find it somewhere around you in your everyday life. And that's possible. :)
Karambola
I listened to a finnish song which made me think about asexuality immidiately, lyrics were so alike. What song do you mean? In my opinion, lyrics of this song sound quite asexual (although it's not necessary the songwriter's intention...) ...I know, it's difficult for you to understand / I want to be close to you, but I don't want you to touch me / and I wish it would suffice you / and everything could go on much easier... Karambola
Do you know where to find a full translation fo the song? I used an online translator and it hacked it up...as online translators do.. I couldn't find a translation in the net and maybe there isn't any translation available at all. Anyway, I made a quick translation myself and put it here... but I don't guarantee the quality :) Hiljaisuus (The Silence) (original lyrics by Irina) I hear the steps in the porch, you fall beside of me, and make yourself room in there. You don't say a word, you just stare at my nape, while I pretend sleeping. Too often I miss those moments, that I could fall asleep and wake up alone. I wouldn't need to be nervous, and explain the inner feelings, when I don't understand it... even myself. hmm... Chorus: I know, it's difficult for you to understand, I want to get close to you, but not you to touch me. And oh, I wish it would suffice you, so this all could go on much easier. For me, this deep silence, is better than one more bad lie. I can't say it straight out, that 'yeah, I'm still anguished', as then we would get stuck in trying to work it out. And yeah, Chorus: I know, it's difficult for you to understand, I want to get close to you, but not you to touch me. And oh, I wish it would suffice you, so this all could continue much easier. Oh yeaah... But hey, it's not easy for me either. I'm just not able to tell, what is on my mind. Yeah... and I know you are not able to take it much longer. This silence is probably killing us. mm.. this silence is probably killing us...

Your translation wasn't bad, not at all. And thanks a lot for that link, I heard that song on the radio and thought it might be by Irina or some female artist like her, but it was all the information I got until you gave that link. gambino
We should put together a CD with these! On the subject of songs, I always thought this one was a bit asexual though it's subtle.... Well look at me, the guy who's got it all Tryin' to read my own writing on the wall Not happy 'til the sadness comes To keep me company Oh, but what becomes of fools who love like me Chorus: Who's gonna dry my tears When I'm crying? Who's gonna hold my hand When I'm dying? Who's gonna set me right when Everything is wrong Who's gonna love me When you're gone? Sure as winter goes and comes around again I will be my own undoing in the end I'll find the answers I've been searching for In your goodbye kiss 'Cause I don't deserve you and you don't deserve this Chorus: Who's gonna dry my tears When I'm crying? And who's gonna hold my hand When I'm dying? Who's gonna set me right when Everything is wrong Yeah, who's gonna love me When you're gone? Never happy 'til the darkness comes And rains down on me Down on me Chorus: And who's gonna dry my tears When I'm crying? And who's gonna hold my hand When I'm dying? Who's gonna set me right when Everything is wrong Who's gonna love me When you're gone? Who's gonna love me when you're gone? Baby when you're gone Yeah, who's gonna love me When you're gone? maco
I will never wanna date you while I can learn to hate you. If you somehow learn to love me, well, that's just my luck. I would never ever care if you only wanted friendship, but somehow you're disappointed that I'm not a slut. I don't wanna fuck you I don't wanna fuck you I don't wanna fuck you So fuck you! In my mind there is no doubt that you've been in and out of many different backseats, many times before. I can always see your defeat when I won't leave the front seat. Now it seems your disappointed that I'm not a whore. I don't wanna fuck you I don't wanna fuck you I don't wanna fuck you So fuck you! I don't wanna fuck you I don't wanna fuck you I don't wanna fuck you I don't wanna fuck you I don't wanna fuck you I don't wanna fuck you So fuck you! slatterly
Maybe this makes me weird, but I always kind of thought 'Physical (you're so)' was asexual. I wanna date you, maybe I wanna take you out I wanna wine and dine you I wanna twist and twist and shout I want you hot in my arms So soft on my bed You got the key to my heart, girl When you wear that sweet dress But you're too physical, physical for me I want your roughhouse, baby I want this right in your ear You let me feel your danger I let you make this feeling clear I want the touch of your charms The heat of your breath I wanna say all those things That would be better unsaid But you're too physical, physical for me The way I figure is that the singer is extremely attracted to this girl but can't really bring himself to have sex with her. Unfortunately, when Trent Reznr sings it he sounds like he's on drugs, and Adam Ant has a very weird voice, so it's hard for me to tell for sure. - Alan
Daysinthewake
Morrissey has gotta be the ultimate asexual icon, but i think Antony and the Johnsons have quite an asexual vibe going on. I would say that Sigur Ros is some of the most asexual music ever, like the YMCA is to homosexuals. It's completely non-sex related, quixotic and the vocals are sung in a made up language. You know it makes sense :D
slatterly
Morrissey has gotta be the ultimate asexual icon I totally don't know who Morrissey is but I'm pretty sure he was a major feature on Marilyn Manson's List of Ways to Tell if you are Gay. Here it is. 24. If you've ever had a haircut like Morrissey.25. If you've ever had a haircut while a Morrissey or Smiths album was playing in the room. ... 39. If your first, last, middle or only name is Morrissey. Which interests me a little because it seems to link into that whole 'if you're not straight you're gay' kinda thing. Again, know very little about Morrissey except that he appears to be connected to The Smiths, but - arrgh the philosophical aspects of this are escaping me. Hopefully someone understands what I mean, about asexuality being taken for gayness. (I'm also thinking about that thing where Meathead was going on about this guy calling 'The Hand That Feeds' gay, but Meathead's site seems to have disappeared so I can't link to that now. Damn.) - Alan
Islander9
Frankly, Morrissey is a nothing to me- there is a large range of age-groups, asexually-committed people, and song (and literary) appreciation folk on site. The very idea of any one song appealing to us all is-RISIBLE! May I offer a suggestion? We all offer own own creations (whether they be suggestions of established numbers or whatever.) And then we wait for evolution to determine- well. it does anyway!

He never really seemed male or female, but also said he wasn't the 3rd sex (androgyn), but the 4th sex (which leaves only asex....if we think in terms of gender, that'd mean he doesnt feel like a boy or girl--the first two--or like both--androgyn--but rather like none of the above...asex). He's not gay or straight either. He's just...nothing. That's why he is said to fit asexuality so well. He, like us, doesn't really have a thing for boys or girls, and, on top of that, has asex for his gender.
oberlinasexual
How about "Art Lover" by the Kinks?
