Spectre/Ex/Machina
Are there any Goths here? If so, what type are you?
I'd rather be in band.
I'm not goth, however I know some of my friends are. They're basically a stereotypical goth. They have the attitude and everything.
WhenSummersGone
If Goth is a feeling then I do feel dark sometimes. I don't dress like one though.
Slob Dylan
I'm not goth at all - more a nondescript weirdo, really - but my parents were both goths in the late '80s and through the '90s, so I was raised by them if that counts for anything. My mum is still a bit goth now. I'm yet to see her natural hair colour and doubt I ever will.
JAKQ7111
Yeah, I'm something of a goth. I was the kid in middle school reading Lord Byron during the height of the Emo movement. When Twilight came out, I was reading Anne Rice and listening to Within Temptation. I don't necessarily dress like a goth, at least all the time, but it's an integral part of my identity. Ficulnean
I think I hold goth sensabilities, whatever that means wikipedia, but never have dressed or acted that way towards others. It's just an internal state for me. I see goth people and I think, oh, these are people I like, but I don't dress like them or anything.
- Ętc -
I've been called that even though I don't dress or act like one (other than my love of old horror, and healthy sense of realism that some mistake for pessimism. And I don't know what people are talking about, Russian literature isn't that depressing - neither is Dickens. I guess people find realism depressing). These days I'd probably get called emo - I'm not that either, they're too whiny and sensitive (or so's the stereotype - no offense meant to anyone, I know stereotypes are rarely accurate and there's nothing wrong with being sensitive [better than being callous/indifferent about everything]). I'd be more on the side of punk, but not angry enough (mostly) - so somewhere between punk and hippie. Or just weird (I prefer the term eccentric, it's snazzier). Combine Jane and Daria from the show Daria and that's pretty much me. I do like goths though - I'm a fan of anyone with a flair for the dramatic and/or whimsical. starguitar
Yeah, although I don't dress in the full get-up that often (but I do wear black almost exclusively). Bit of a mixture of trad and medieval goth. Big fan of goth music.
Frigid Pink
I generally dislike labels, so, other than "asexual," I don't really use any to describe me.
Xavy
People thought I was gothic when I was a teenager, but I don't think I ever fit the true definition. I think I was labled as gothic only because I wore black clothes.
FallOutAtTheMotionCityDisc
I've been labeled as goth, and emo by other people. I was looking into goth for a long time, and while I fit quite a few of the characteristics the music wasn't my favorite. I am some kind of strange mix of goth, emo, and punk. :P
drjohnhwatson
A friend and I tried to go full-out Goth Style in Middle School to stand out and get back at a friend (don't fully understand our reasoning to this day), but the plans sort of fell apart. I can get the appeal of it, though.
iamphoenixfire
A friend of mine told me that I am "a goth in spirit" in that i think of very very depressing things and listen to depressing and metal music but at the same time am authentic in what i think and do what i please and dress how i play. also i say tons of really depressing things with a smile on my face and mean both of them. but i don't think there is a label for me that really fits. pale-landscape
*raises hand* I haven't really identified as such lately, but I went to Convergence 13 and have seen Voltaire live, if that counts for anything. I've been lazy in the aesthetics department, but when I move into my new place next month I'm going full-on goth decor this time. I miss it. What did you think of him? I saw him at Wicked Faire, and as per tradition, he was slightly drunk when performing, and forgot his lyrics/lost his place in several songs. He's great on the album, though!

Voltaire proudly identifies himself as a goth, and has done so since he was very young. I actually like his new stuff a lot, and his old stuff. My two favorite albums of his are Riding a Black Unicorn and To the Bottom of the Sea. I actually sang "The Dirtiest Song that Ain't" in my school's Drag Show last spring. The video is up on YouTube if you want to see it! Just search "Dirtiest Song that Ain't Drag" and you'll probably find it.

kiwifire
Oooh, I was very punk goth with occasional gamer girl look all through high school and the like, unfortunately I'm no longer a little stick figure size wise so when I couldn't fit stuff anymore I stopped wearing it, but I still pretty much only wear black, I come across as goth still when I get all dressed up, but most the time I'm too lazy and only my jewelry gives me away =P
Frac
Shrug. I do like some bands that are popular among goths, like Voltaire, Alien Sex Fiend, and The Gothsicles. I also mostly wear all black, so I guess liking those parody/comedy bands sorta makes me a perky goth, haha. However, I mostly listen to metal, and thus identify more as a metalhead than anything. Edit: Illuminatus, if you want to get into Voltaire, I recommend starting with The Devil's Bris. It has some of his most legendary songs like When You're Evil. The Man Upstairs makes me laugh every time.
FiddleKid
When I was at school, I used to be a bit of an emo but I still wear emo-ish clothes occasionally. I knew a lot of goths though.
paperwishes
I like the goth aesthetic but I wouldn't say I am one. I wear mostly black and dye my hair black (it's naturally dark brown already). I guess I lean towards emo like some others were saying. I like dark stuff, horror, I love Poe... I don't really know enough though. Yeah, I'm something of a goth. I was the kid in middle school reading Lord Byron during the height of the Emo movement. Lady Valacri
I get called goth alot but I'm punk rock. I don't fit into goth very well. I appreciate goth culture and love to immerse myself in it but it's not me.
syntaxlost
This is really kind of interesting. I did a social survey and study on Goth culture (which I consider myself very much a part of) and one of the overriding conceptions of Goth by people outside the culture was that it was an attitude or mindset. Of course everyone's views are valid but I've always considered Goth to be largely about music and aesthetic rather than attitude. I pretty much only wear black, listen to a lot of strange angry/depressed music, but I promise I'm quite happy. :)

Karret
I'd say I fall more into the metalhead category, but I do love darker things in general, and the goth aesthetic and some of the music as well. C: !!
