I have read quite a bit of fanfiction, though I used to read it more often than I do now. I have read up to mature rated fics. For some reason I just really like same-sex asexual relationships. I really don't like fics with heterosexual pairings. I've never figured out the cause of this and I hope it doesn't offend anyone. Most of the fics I read contain almost exclusively genders that aren't mine, though it doesn't bother me if I do read them. My family and most of my friends don't know about the fanfiction, and I have written multiple stories of my own that include asexual characters.

I'm more interested in original works than fanfiction. I did read one Pokemon fanfiction which I really liked, though. The last time I read some of it, it wasn't complete yet. I should find it sometime to catch up and see if it's finished.

I don't read fanfic and I wouldn't unless it's (apparently) really good and has characters that I care about. No matter how well written it is, knowing that it's fanfic or otherwise unofficial tends to kill any interest though.

I have a fanfiction addiction. I'm actually fairly certain I've read more fanfiction than original works at this point in my life. I mostly read Supernatural fics, but I have also read an extensive amount of Harry Potter fanfiction, as well as fanfiction of the various anime I've watched in the past.

Generally, when it comes to Supernatural fanfiction, I remain pretty strictly on the explicit DeanCas side of things. I don't mind if a fic doesn't include sex, but I usually prefer it. As far as other fandoms go, I don't really have much of a preference for any of the options mentioned in the poll. I do lean very much towards m/m slash, however. As far as whether it includes romantic relationships, sexual relationships, gender, etc, I don't really care.

I love writing, but I usually don't. Just because I'm not very confident in my writing ability and I don't want to embarrass myself.

I mostly read fanfiction in the sense that fanfiction = any story created by a fan about any particular fandom. It may or may not have any relationships in it at all. I've read everything from stories about Warcraft characters to alternate timelines of the Harry Potter universe. I prefer stories where relationships don't particularly matter and are mostly there to further the plot.

I've browsed fanfiction.net a few times, not really looking for anything in particular. I'm not in any of the currently popular fandoms anyway. I actually found a great non-sexual romantic story about Rin and Len Kagamine (which I haven't found again since, but I haven't looked too hard). All the others I've browsed through I either find boring or just entertaining due to their shock value. For example, one time I was like "There's m/m and f/f Downton Abbey stories!?!?!? Must read a few sentences just because I'm curious, but I don't want to read the whole thing..."

I actually wrote a few fanfiction stories in my early teens, before I learned that fanfiction was actually a "thing." I definitely did some non-canon shipping, too! However, I am not sure I'd ever put those online. I haven't had time to write any new stories for a while, but I'm rather intrigued by the thought of sharing them with other fans.

I don't know, fanfiction is just weird to me. I find it interesting but at the same time, I am afraid to read something that will forever change my opinion of characters I like. So maybe I'll read and/or write more someday. Just wait and see, I guess!

As for the poll questions, I'm not picky about relationships or the lack thereof in stories. Canon and non-canon shipping is fine with me. I've seen some dreadfully awful sex scenes in stories that were fun to read just because of how bad they were, but I'd rather not read stories with explicit sex, whether fanfiction or not.

I hardly read fanfiction, because I feel like I usually don't have the time for it, so I'd have to be very motivated to read it, and I'm not in a lot of fandoms lately. The last fanfic I read was the Hetalia fic "Gutters", because it circulated a lot in the Hetalia fandom as a notorious tear-jerker, so I had to see it for myself.

I don't care for shipping that much, so I don't really care if there are relationships in a fic or not, as long as there isn't anything explicit, and there isn't character derailment for the sake of getting two characters together.

Age 11 - 18 I was so obsessed with fanfiction I would wake up at 3 in the morning to read before I went to school. Mum and dad got so concerned about my fanfiction addiction they took the computer away for four months. I then spent all my time in the library reading it instead. They thought I was doing work. I'm over my fanfiction obsession now, but there are two stories I continue reading (started in 2006 and I want to know what happens!).

I love reading fan fiction and I've recently tried my hand at writing it too. So much fun! My friends and family know I write fan fiction, but there is no way I'm ever enlightening them to the fact that fan fiction (including most of the stories I read and write) often involves *cough* mature content.

I wouldn't give it up for all the world, though. There's so many fantastic authors on there and it's a wonderful feeling whenever I get comments from my readers. :D

I tend to actually prefer fandoms which I've never seen (or didn't much care for) the source material because of how differently the characters are (by and large) portrayed in the fandom versus how they're represented in the original work. Often I'll end up gravitating towards sticking exclusively to either the fan works or the source work.

I started reading facfictions when I was around 11-12, just recently I came back to those stories and oh god they're awful haha I don't know how I could read that.

Now I like to read fanfictions too but I'm way more picky and I have less time.

Just recently I read a SnK fanfic on AO3, it was Levi/Erwin but what really struck me was that it features a demisexual(?) Levi, I found it really interesting since it's my first time reading something like that.

I do read fanfiction, so much. I write it too, but less often because the plot bunnies always seem to strike at inopportune moments... I'll read most things as long as I know the characters, but I prefer m/m, either asexual or otherwise - although asexual characters do particularly fascinate me. I suppose it's because I never associate myself with the male characters, which during, ahem, intimate moments, would be most off-putting for me. That's what I write, too, although mostly erring on the teen-level side of things; I can't write mature content to save my life. Fanfiction is, sporadically, something of an obsession of mine to be honest.

Basically. I read a LOT of fanfiction - to the point where I joke it's an obsession. It's not (yet), as I can control the urge to get up and read at ungodly hours. But it has such a claming effect on me that I resort to it whenever my brain needs a happy place. I go through periods without reading any FF for months, then it comes back full force. Currently in reading mode -hellllllo Swan Queen fans :D [i accept recs!]

I read everywhere - mainly on AO3 and FF.net these days, but I'm a bit disappointed by the quality of the content on both sites. I'm spoiled rotten by a couple of older archive sites and good LJ groups and now it seems somewhat harder to find good fics. I don't blame the sites, of course - I'm extremely grateful that they exist at all.

My writing (especially prose) sucks big time so I'm only a reader. I've toyed with the idea of getting some of the stories out of my head, but I don't it'll happen any time soon - I still think I'm not a good wirter, and I've come to think that English is THE language for fanfics - another obstacle as I'm really not secure enough in my language skills to write in it.

I used to write m/m slashfic that wasn't canon (and yes, you can look me up, it's was very bad fanfic from my teens in the Gundam Wing fandom :D, don't say I didn't warn you about the quality!)

I prefer m/m slash to het and femmeslash, even as a reader, and even gen is preferred over het and femmeslash - idk why. I just do. I think I'm broken.

Sex scenes don't bother me, as long as they're in keeping with the story and not badly written. I do enjoy reading some of them, dependent on the author and quality.

And I'll pretty much read any level (I love actiony hurtcomforty type stuff!

Fanfiction: My guilty pleasure. So much is absolutely awful, but occasionally there's a writer who absolutely shines. Haven't found one of those in a while, and I've had to wade through way too much crap before I find anything good, so I've avoided it for the past few months.

I voted that I'll enjoy pretty much any pairing as long as it's canon, but that's... sort of not true. I'll enjoy pairings that work WITH the characters' canon personalities, and mostly fit within the world setting (I'll accept deviations from the world in regards to acceptance of LGBT people, for example, as long as it doesn't interfere too much with the story's relations to canon). The story itself isn't quite as important to me as keeping the characters and universe consistent with the source material, and that goes for stories without pairings, as well. I get extremely irritated if characters act out of character, or if they are removed from their natural habitat and plopped somewhere else.

Actually, I prefer romantic fanfiction - I'll admit to being a mild shipper, and though I don't go crazy over it or get upset if someone ships another pairing (and will even read well-done ships that I don't approve of), I generally go on a fanfiction kick after finding a pair who I think will go brilliantly together. As I don't have the patience to write the stories that come to mind myself - and quite frankly, feel bad if I steal other people's characters rather than make my own - I turn to other fanfic writers in order to see the "behind the scenes" romance that I imagine is there. I like writing, but rarely finish things and I prefer to write original fiction.

As long as the fanfiction fits those bounds, I'll read just about any rating - explicit, even, if the author can prove elsewhere that they're that good. Although with the more mature sorts, I do prefer genders that aren't mine as previously stated; otherwise it just feels a bit weird once things start getting sexual. That being said, sometimes I even like the sexual bits - in the context of characters who are sexual, those scenes can be extremely meaningful moments for the characters themselves (as previously stated, I've read some pretty awesome authors). Weirdly enough, a good number of my favorite stories have been extremely explicit because the author I liked happened to prefer those. All comes with liking to read romance, I suppose.

Not weird imo. I'm the same (and from what I've gathered from talks with fellow fanfic readers, a lot of people are too). I think it's partly because the OC is usually not well written, sketchy, and some kind of avatar of the literary author. Few people can actually pull it off.

Reading my previous post, I've skipped the genres thing. I prefer femslash, read almost exclusively that. So safely to say that I do prefer romantic fanfiction with characters of my identified gender in relationships. I don't mind mature and even explicit content, IF there's enough of a plot and build-up to justify it. And of course, I prefer my smut scenes well written (sadly, that's rare nowadays). Totally not into PWPs (although early in my fanfic habit I've read my fair share of those). I'm a sucker for angst/romance and hurt/comfort fics, mostly because the authors add much more emotional depth to the characters there, unlike fluff and family fiction, where it's usually pretty boring (for me).

I'm almost 28 and fan fiction is all I read, and mostly all I have ever read, I've been reading it for over 10 years. I like angst and in general relationships that take a while to work out, no kink is too twisted, usually the more twisted the relationship the longer things take to work out, so even better... I am extremely picky in other ways however... it has to be eventually m/m (the longer drawn out until then the better), it has to be 10,000+ words, it has to have a plot and proper grammar, and also to be told from just one prospective. I feel like jumping to other characters "minds" spoils things. With most of those requirements being mandatory before I read it can take a while to find a story I will avidly read and it also eliminates most standard paperback books from captivating my attention.

On the m/m thing, I gravitated to it over 10 years ago, and once I realised how much I liked it, reading heterosexual relationships or even being interested in watching them unfold in general was not appealing -- I'll be on the sidelines cheering for the subtle m/m slash possibilities, or even if they don't exist at all, if there's good fan fiction about them I'll read it. I don't even need to know the fandom... recently I've been reading Teen Wolf and RPF Hockey stuff, and I know nothing about either. Haha. Perhaps being so interested in m/m has to do with not identifying with the gender involved... I really cannot say for sure.

It seems there are a fair number *vs the general population* of asexuals in a similar boat, so there must be something to it.

I've written fanfiction but never on the internet it's in a spiral in my room hidden from everyone, though I've considered writing it online but I don't know if I can stay committed to writing it without stopping for a long time and going back to it.

I'm quite an avid fanfiction reader/writer to be honest. A lot of my friends both in real life and online are too, so we tend to exchange writing and give pointers. I find it easier to write fanfiction than original stuff, and use it to improve my writing skills for when I do eventually move on to writing my own things.
