Okay, so i'm currently taking a human sexuality class. My professor claims that the vast majority of asexuals are "young women who have not discovered sexual pleasure yet". I am doing this poll as an extra credit sort of thing, also to try and prove her wrong.

There is some rational because for sexual people you would discover sexual pleasure (also libido, sex drive, ability to be aroused, and SEXUAL ATTRACTION which your professor should know is the basis of asexuality) at some point so prior to this could be referred to as asexual I guess maybe - but aka too young. And it is not gender specific. This is the whole mentality that guys have to be super sexuals and girls are like semisexual receivers and it sucks.

And this from a professor of human sexuality. Basically said asexuality doesn't exist. Nice.

Ask your professor to back up her claims with empirical data. Don't accept anything else! By the same means though, you won't change her mind with this poll. You will merely catch a very small fraction of asexuals that happened to stumble upon AVEN and this thread in particular. She'll likely point this flaw out. But for what it's worth: I'm female, in my mid-twenties, asexual and apparently a non-libidoist, too. I'm 100% sure I've been like this all my life.

I'm in my early twenties, intermediate gender (bio-male), do masturbate, and as far as I know I've been ace my whole life (there's no accounting for teenage years, but from what I remember, I was more confused by than interested in sex; never bothered with it in the end).

not so much education is trapping people as that the system is broken and doesn't teach them to question things the way they should, This is why i liked my science teacher in elemntery school who was also my main class teacher. every moring we would have to read a articail from the paper summerise it and then state our own opinion on it. Sometimes ie. often it would turn into a class discussion on the biggest topic. For example we would debate everything from school uniforms to changes made to public transit. this was grade 5 so we were 10/11 years of age. I would continue to have a string of these types of teachers but never more than one teacher at a time and the only reason i got the question everything you know type teacher in high school was becasue i didn't go to my local school.

Anyway almost 20 (4 months away!) libidoist who takes "care" rarely (ie. twice only) and has been ace their entaire life, cis- female.

Wow, what a ridiculous and outdated idea. The implication here seems to be that women are inherently naive and innocent and that once a woman experiences sexual pleasure she magically becomes allosexual.

Anyway, I'm cis male, twenty, and I've pretty much always known I was some sort of asexual, although I didn't learn the word until I was nearly sixteen. These days I identify as demi/gynoromantic. I'm a virgin. (And heading for that level in Wizard when I turn thirty, although I don't know why I thought multiclass Barbarian/Wizard was a good idea...) TMI:

I do masturbate occasionally, but the common description on here of the urge being like an "itch" seems to fit pretty well, I do it pretty irregularly, if I have the urge and it just doesn't seem to be working that day I simply go do something else instead, and porn generally disgusts me more often than it turns me on.

Late twenties "intermediate" here who masterbates, but only as a tool to help them sleep. Pretty sure I've been ace my whole life, but only found out about it recently.

Also SO MANY partners and friends have told me things like "you just haven't had good sex yet." Now I know that's not something that applies to me :P

One thing to ask: does your teacher mean biological sex or really the gender when she says most of the woman haven't discovered sexuality yet? Because it could theoretically be completely possible that most people identify as woman but that doesn't mean that they are woman efined by biological sex. What I try to say: make sure you're both talking about eigther biological sex or gender (which are two differend things).
