Okay, this is pretty hypothetical. If you are not single, imagine that you are. Would you actually want a significant other? If you don't, that doesn't mean, for the purposes of this poll, you want out. Perhaps you've been lucky and gotten one you want to hold on to now, or by a stroke of coincidence you just fell into this one and have found out you are actually happy. Your current situation should not influence your answer. Perhaps what you have learned by it does such as if you have learned, by having a partner, that you are much happier one way or the other.

Nor should you think that your answer dictate whether you are "romantic" or "aromantic". I, for one, am romantic but don't want a relationship. It's just too much hassle for me.

Not for sexuals:

Have you ever felt yourself attracted to a person in a way that is different from the platonic attraction of (as Dargon puts it) kittens and sunsets? I'm talking about a powerful attraction (a crush?), the thing that would be referred to by a sexual as sexual attraction, but it doesn't necessarily make you want to have sex with that person.

Yet Another Poll Regarding Sub-groups Amongst Asexuals...

Just for the record (I forgot to include) - having sexual fantasies, despite not actually desiring to go through with them, would fall into "semi-sexuals" by the above descriptions. Sorry!

What menstrual products do you use? Some folks here are uncomfortable with their bits, while some people don't care. My other poll asks how we feel about menstruating in general. I'm wondering how this all correlates to how we handle our periods.

I used to prefer little applicatorless tampons, but now I'm head over heels for my trusty mooncup, which has seen me through almost a year so far.

I'm starting this because I made an assertion in this topic that most Avenites were not exposed to hard core porn - and then I realized, I'm only assuming that based on what I've read... So... let's see if I was right.

And this is not a question if you LIKED it or if you continued to look at it... just if/when you were ever exposed.

For the sake of the poll I am making 22 as the latest bloomer age - in that if you don't hit sexual interest by then, chances are you aren't going to... I could be wrong, there may be later bloomers than that, but I didn't want to put more options... :)

So a friend says to me, "If you're not interested in attracting a mate, why do you wear those fishing lures in your ears?"

My answer: They entertain me and contribute to the persona I project to the public. (Being an extreme introvert, I'm always playing a character in public in order to function.)

I do not wear make-up because it's far too much trouble and I consider it a waste of my time. But I do tend to wear long, flamboyant earrings. I don't think the only reason for decorating oneself is to attract mates. How one looks affects the reactions and assumptions of everyone one meets, potential mate or not. Accentuating ones sexuality is not the only reason for decorating ones body. So there, anyway. :P

In the "A question for straight asexuals" thread it seems a heck of a lot of us aren't into drinking. I was just interested how many asexuals are like that.

I very rarely drink, because it doesn't work for me as an inhibition remover - it actually makes me less sociable and wanting to be alone.

Is there a correlation between asexuals and non-drinkers I wonder?

Oh no, I had another poll option but it didn't go through

Is there a way to edit it after the fact?

If not, the option was "more than once a week"

It didn't actually use the term asexual, but it seemed to be saying that seretonin-altering meds can have all sorts of unexpected emotional concequences. Nobody should feel the need to reveal who they are and what they take, and I don't mean this poll to suggest that asexualism is a chemical imbalance. Personally, I think there're probably dozens of physiological, psychological, and genetic components that can play a part in asexuality; this poll is about whether or not antidepressants might be one of them.

Participation in sexual activity

I am curious as to see how many people out there are like me, meaning they have a sexual partner and participate in sexual activity only for their benefit (I voted sometimes/often).

Smoker or non smoker - which are you?

Having attended several meets here in the UK, it struck me that there seem to be a fairly large number of asexuals who either don't smoke or prefer to be in a non-smoking environment.

Just out of interest, I thought I'd raise this as a poll to see if there is any correlation between smokers/non-smokers and being asexual.

I'm a non-smoker, and much prefer to be in a non-smoking environment if possible.

Thanks to discussions at my school about gender identity and expression being added to the nondiscrimination policy, I've been thinking about gender identity a bit. Now, I never really felt too attached to my sex/gender/whatever. If I was suddenly a boy, I wouldn't care (but my boyfriend probably would). It's just some pieces I have no intention of putting to use. But what about this "gender identity" idea? I never thought of my brain as being of any gender; I thought there were no differences based on sex or gender. Apparently, that's wrong. So, where's that lealways reave me? I've always considered myself female because that's what the space between my legs says I am. My brain doesn't really seem girly to me. I don't want to be a boy. So, where does that put me? I know I have androgynous gender expression, but my brain feels "normal" to me, not really like it has any connection to either sex/gender. I guess I don't have the same sort of focus or train of thought that most other girls I've met have. Same with guys. It's sort of like I'm a mental eunuch (not that I'd mind being a physical one).

So, my question is, do you feel like your mental gender matches your biological sex, or is it the opposite? Or are you different--maybe a mix of both? Or is your brain a-gendered to go with your asexuality? Anything else?

Menstruation: are you repulsed or indifferent? Or do you think it's kind of cool? Hey, I've heard all kinds of responses from the general population, so I'm curious about how AVENites feel. I tried to make the poll options as wide as possible, please vote wherever you feel you fit.

I used to be mildly repulsed, ashamed and embarrassed. I grew indifferent (if unhappy about it), but in the last year I've tried to embrace it as a part of loving myself. Plus, my menstrual cup's made my period 8888x better. I expect I'll be in the minority here, but these days I actually do think it's kinda cool. Except, of course, when it hurts. ;)
