This thread is to discuss your preference regarding watching one of the two. If you are to watch TV/Movies all day long, which one of those two would you prefer to watch?

Of the two? Violence. I don't need to see two people getting it on and when characters are doing it, I tend to turn away from the TV/movie screen or bury my head in the book I'm reading at time. I like and enjoy Action Adventure, Mysteries, SF/F and some horror. Sex just ruins the story for me and make the whole thing feel cheapened.

I will watch romcoms from the 30s and 40s though. If given a choice at the theater, I'd take an action flick over the romance, unless it's something like Red which combines the two without being schmaltzy (and we never see the Bruce Willis character do more than kiss his girlfriend).

Neither? I prefer romance drama over sex/violence anyday because I'm romantic like that xD

I chose both. I love lots of sex and violence in my movies/shows. I don't desire either in my everyday life, but I love to watch it on tv

I'd rather see a sex scene than a violent scene, as long as it's not explicit. I hate violence, whether it's in real life or in TV shows/movies. I also have a strong dislike for injuries/blood/gore/anything gross.

I don't care. I hate violence in the real world, but in fiction sometimes is required to make the stories more interesting, so it doesn't bother me. About sex, I neither like it nor hate it. It just doesn't produce me any emotion. Well sometimes, I can even like to watch it, if it's made in a romantic, beautiful, delicate way.

Violence. Sex is just boring and uncomfortable, but violence makes more sense to what is going on.

Yup..if I'm watching a cop show I wanna see the crime scene...sex is dumb for cop shows...unless it led up to the death somehow.

If I had to choose between the two, violence will win but it really depends on the kind of violence. Violence that gets really bloody like True Blood can be, I'll rather not watch that. Domestic violence is so painful to watch. As for sex, I'm fine with seeing none of it or if I must, a very short scene where I don't see them actually doing it, just the kind of scene that implies it occurred.

Violence is ok with me as long as it's not particularly gory, wanton, needless violence. If done well, it can still be entertaining.

I can't see sex as ranging anywhere from between boring to just plain gross.

Violence. It's fake, 100%, so doesn't bother me AT ALL. Whereas, those are REAL human bodies that are naked on my screen and sometimes even REALLY having sex. Nudity in cartoons doesn't bug me so much, but real people nude, I'd rather not see. If it's a sex scene that doesn't show nudity, I don't care either way, unless it's like 5 minutes long.

I'm not too comfortable with gore. But most violence is incorporated into action movies and they tend to have extended fight scenes or car chases and I just get so bored as it feels as though the plot is taking a break while they perform acrobatics. But for the same reason sex can get kinda boring as its a pause in the story for voyeurism.

That's easy ... I prefer to watch neither sex nor violence on tv. Last good movie I saw was Smurfs 2 :)

I'd take the violence over the sex; however, I prefer fantasy-type violence as opposed to more "realistic" scenarios. In other words, I like sci-fi, fantasy and some types of horror films but not so much reality-based stuff; like I wouldn't mind a movie where a werewolf rips someone to pieces, but not so much a movie where a serial killer cuts people up (unless of course it has a fantasy element, like the old Friday the 13th and Halloween movies). Besides, pretty much everyone who tried to have sex in those movies wound up dead, and I was thinking, "whew, finally put a stop to having to see that!".

I don't mind sexually themed stuff (even if there is some nudity) if it is played for comedy for some strange reason. Otherwise, when I see a graphic sex scene (by r-rated standards, since I don't watch porn) I feel like I'm invading someone's privacy; like I want to say to the screen "Oh, sorry, excuse me!" and quickly shut the door on the copulating couple (nope, never walked on anyone having sex when I was kid or anything, so no idea where that comes from). Kind of like walking in on someone when the are using the bathroom but worse. It just gives me a very uncomfortable feeling (which is mostly blunted if it is played for comedy, because I can laugh it off) even though I know that the actors are willingly exposing themselves and probably aren't really having sex anyway.

I don't mind either, as long as the sex or violence scenes aren't only done for the sensational effects. Both can be good if they reflect the characters' personality or feelings.

This. Stylized violence (think Buffy or Xena... well, most parts of Xena - it did cross the line into too gory, if only at rare times) is what I'd go for. As you already mentioned True Blood, it's a show I gave a try, but both the gore and the sex made me give up on following it.

Don't know + don't care

Sex doesn't bother me, it just gets repetitive and boring if there's too much of it, or the story focuses on sex too much. Violence... I can take it as long as there's no blood. I'm blood phobic, so anything beyond the faintest scratch ever repulses me.

Violence. There are some good movies which include violence (war movies, thrillers...) but OMG, no sex movies, please!

i don't mind either. i'd prefer there wasn't any but there are many things i'd prefer

i'm not a fan of violence but i can live with it although if too much, i will blank the screen or make sure something comes up if i hit teletext.

As others have pointed out, it depends a lot on how it's handled. I don't mind a love scene if it's not too graphic and what is shown is relevant to the story. If it doesn't teach me anything about the characters and how they relate to each other, then it should fade to black and move on.

Violence should also further the story, rather than just show off. Blood doesn't bother me, but I'm not impressed with a gorefest. Yes, sometimes it's appropriate to see something horrible because it's important to the story that the audience fully appreciate the brutality of an act. But there's a difference between that sort of thing and just reveling in it.

If given a choice, I'd choose violence. However, it depends on how both are implemented. There are some sex (or implied) scenes that are really masterfully well-done and add a whole new depth to the movie. Same thing with some violence scenes. But if it's just sex for the sake of sex or violence for the sake of violence, then I'd probably choose to watch something else. Because in my opinion, having a violence/sex scene for the sake of violence/sex means the movie sucks and I could be doing something better with my time :P

I hate movies. I can't stand violence. I can cover my eyes for sex. Sex is just gross; violence gives me nightmares.

I'm no fan of gore fests, by any standard. Horror splatter films are nauseating things to watch and I honestly don't understand what the thrill is in watching such movies ...

When I think of films full of violence, I'm thinking movies like Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Fifth Element, The Matrix, Lost Boys, Mad Max, etc. Fun to watch movies.

Neither!

I don't watch sex. I will turn it off immediately!

Though, I can tolerate some Sci-Fi violence, I will NOT watch bloody-gorey-graphic violence.

Don't care. I don't find either appealing, but also not repulsive. I am neutral to both sex and violence in movies, but watch them for other reasons than those scenes. If they are too much, it simply becomes boring. I don't like it when sex/violence scenes are in movies just for their own sake, without being involved in the plot. All in all, given a choice, I prefer movies without those scenes.

Neither... Not for TV or Movie wise, but I too often get into the habit of watching real gratuitous violence, gore, mutilation on the dark interwebs...

While I'm not averse to sex scenes, I choose violence.

If I'm watching a horror movie about a killer or a monster wreaking havoc on a group of people, there had better be some satifying, bloody death scenes, perferrably with gore.
