So, i know that asexuality can have different lables, like biromantic and aromantic, but how many different labels are there for asexuals and asexuality??

Try typing asexual, grey-a, and aromantic in the wiki portion of this site and you will find your answers.

You don't need to type and look for it since there's a lexicon on AVENwiki: here.

I've also occasionally seen indifferent and repulsed used as labels.

homoromantic heteroromantic biromantic panromantic polyromantic aromantic monoromantic demiromantic(prefix with it demi does not describe romantic attraction to a gender or object) pedoromantic (and this is wrong and illegal)

Curious, what is pedoromantic exactly, and why would it be illegal? I'm oft unclear on the term romantic anyway...

Romantic labels can apply to sexuals as well, they aren't asexual-specific, though it seems more common for asexuals to use it.

I'd imagine that it means being romantically attracted to children? While it's not inherently illegal, acting upon it can be...

A plethora, my friend. A plethora.

Pedoromantic means being attracted to children/minors. Attraction isn't illegal; action is if your partner is not of the age of legal consent. The word "pedophile", although it means someone who loves children, usually is used (at least in America) to denote people who have actually had illegal relationships with children, either touching/sex or viewing or producing child pornography.

Pedoromanticism was deemed unethical in http://www.asexuality.org/en/index.php?sho...622&hl=pedo (I believe that is the post or may of been different one)

I don't know exactly how many labels exist at this moment in time, or even how many labels are currently recognised by the AVEN community....

However, I would say that the number of labels in use... (relating to both sexuality and asexuality) is constantly changing…

I see asexuality / sexuality as a spectrum...with labels created to distinguish different sections and features within that spectrum…

In this way the most frequently inhabited sections of the spectrum will adopt widely recognisable labels…

Some people may feel more sure of their sexuality and so adopt specific labels with more certainty…. but other people (like myself) may find their sexuality to be more of a grey area, which can be very difficult to box up and label.

:excl: So... to answer your question: "How many labels are there for asexuality?" …. I'd say... as many labels as you want!! ^_^

If I was to invent a new term to help me describe my own sexuality... I guess it would be ... "Fluctuating Asexual" .... or something along those lines... as my sexuality seems to fluctuate between "more sexual" and "more asexual" in different situations....

But that's just me!

Others may feel the term is unnecessary because they see "fluctuating sexuality" as normal for many sexuals.... but only I know how I feel about my own sexuality... and only I can choose which labels I want to use to describe myself.

Of course... whether or not new labels enter common usage... depends on many factors and I assume all currently recognised terms are accepted / understood by the majority of regular AVENites and AVEN moderators etc.

But in theory…someone could invent a strange new label to describe their sexuality or place in the asexual/sexual spectrum...

EG: "Purple Monkey Dishwasher" to mean an asexual obsessed with the Simpsons….

.....its just that such strange labels are unlikely to be widely adopted by the community and added to the AVEN dictionary...

**************************************************************

Sorry... this post got a lot more complicated then I originally intended!!

If you simply meant:

"How many labels are currently recognised by the AVEN community?"

.... then all the widely recognised/ accepted terms are listed in the AVEN wiki as others have said.

Terms can also be used in various combinations...

EG: "Hetero-romantic Grey-Asexual"

Elliott Ford

Someone i know identifies as a heteroromantic anthrosexual.

i resort to calling my romantic orientation Queer or Queer-Romantic because it has nothing to do with gender per se but i'm attracted almost exclusively to gay, bi, ace, trans and/or genderqueer people. i don't really want to identify as panromantic when i know for almost certain that i'm not attracted to heterosexual ciswomen and most men.

A tautology here but it's what came into my head - Labels are only useful so long as they're useful.

I'm not entirely sure what my head means by that...
