Lobbying

The big news this week is from David Jay, AVEN's founder, who met with the Executive Director of the National Center for Transgender Equality and talked about getting Hyposexual Desire Disorder taken out of the DSM V (the definitive American listing of psychological disorders, which currently categorises lifelong asexuality as a sexual dysfunction). He also talked to people from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and the woodhull Freedom Foundation. Check it out here:

Events

Lehcar had a table at the Calgary Pride street gala on the 8th, and she will have a table set up at Misc Youth, a Calgary dance for queer and questioning youth, on the 13th.

Thats acually really interesting! For my psychology exam tomorrow I have to know all about the DSM!

In the English version (ICD-10) of classing abnormalities they do not have a sexual problem class. Because the English are cool lol

At the university I go to, the abnormal psych. class uses a special edition of their textbook that has the entire chapter on sexual and gender identity disorders removed.

At the university I go to, the abnormal psych. class uses a special edition of their textbook that has the entire chapter on sexual and gender identity disorders removed.

That is very cool. I have heard of a lot of clinical psychologists who disagree with the idea of sexual disorders (as well as personality disorders, and probably some other things) because, with a few exceptions, they are not causing the person significant distress or impairment.
