Does girl stuff gross you out?

Recommended Posts

G-strings (thongs where I come from are shoes) are impractical and ugly. Bras are okay (sports bras, that is) - but I prefer crop tops. They support my tiny boobs perfectly. I think lacy numbers are lame, and underwires are really itchy. I have been wearing only crop tops since last year (when my last bra bit the dust).

I actually can't stand it if a bra doesn't have underwire. But I get so particular that if it's not just right, I totally freak.

Though I really want to look into those boy-short things :] sounds like fun... hah.

I am neutral towards bras...I avoid them if I can, but generally don't care if I have to wear one.

Shopping for them...yeah. I hate that.

By saying "girl stuff" I thought this was about all that yucky stuff those yucky girls magazines practically force you to wear/all that yucky attitude they say you should have to "be a woman". Grr, don't get me started...

Anyhow...

I don't see the problem with bras. They keep breasts from going bouncy and (the wrong kind of) people from looking. There's a lot of variety out there. I agree that all that fluffy, lacy, sexy, transparent crap should just burn but there is simple, functional stuff out there that is just practical. I only buy those, my sister calls them "breastplates" because they're hard and don't outline my boobs.

Thongs and strings and assorted crap--seriously only a sex-obsessed man could have invented something disgusting like this. I'm for practical bikini panties all the way. Boxer shorts for girls are just too hot.

As for your mother, why don't you go shopping with some girlfriends instead? Or buy online as has been suggested. Shopping should be fun, not an embarrassment.

And freaking out over the wrong kind of underwear is not hysterical. I was given a set of black transparent underwear as a present by a well-meaning girlfriend. Immediately I freaked out and said I was taking them back to the shop and exchanging them for something logical. The shop assistant looked puzzled and asked me why, since it turned guys on and was real eye-candy. I almost gagged right then and there...

I don't get everybody's problems with thongs, I actually like them a lot. I wear them because they're comfortable and you can't see panty lines though thin pants.

I agree, certainly on the pantie-line thing. As for comfort...it depends on my mood. Sometimes I find them really comfortable (more than 'regular' underwear)...other times, not at all.

I'm fine with bras and underwear. They're just clothes, after all, and I would feel horribly embarrassed and naked if I didn't wear them.

Tampons, however, are icky. I've never used one and don't plan to.

I don't get that, either. Not that I'm particularly fond of them, but I find all the alternatives really disgusting. Tampons are easy and discreet. I'd hate to live without them.

I used to really hate bra shopping. I hated the fact that I needed to do it. I hated my breasts. I hated everything about it, probably up till I was 18 or so (and I started needing a bra at 9, stupid boobs). But I started getting used to it, and I can tolerate it now. It still annoys me that I'm a DDD, but that's life.

I felt the same way about my period... before I started menstruating (at 11) I was really hoping that I could prevent its onset by the power of my mind. It didn't work. I still hate it just because it's so freakin painful, but other than that, I'm okay with it now. It's just the way life is.

I always think I'd like to get a hysterectomy and a breast reduction, but I don't have the means to do so.

I don't like my breasts, and I don't like bras much either, but they're a necessary evil, I guess. Underwear doesn't bother me, but I don't like thongs because they're uncomfortable. I hate having my periods, and I don't like wearing pads (does anyone, really?) but tampons scare me too much to try them.

If you're a DDD you may not NEED the means to do so. Talk to your doctor and claim it's a medical necessity because your back and shoulders are probably very stressed. The hyst, you probably won't get so lucky with but the BR, definitely look into it.

Since we're on the bra-subject. I love 'm! Not the lace and the decoration and all that, but the support. What I truly hate is breasts wobbling around. I wanna jump, kick, run, dance, without any of that. So, the more support, the better. I'd sleep in a bra if the udnerwire wasn't so hard.

I don't have issues with any of the items or ideas mentioned, no. Actually I'm another of those ladies who can't get around comfortably without a good bra. And as a costumer, I place a lot of importance on silhouette.

Since everyone's talking about tampons and menstruation etc, I feel like I ought to advertise a couple of old threads of mine in the census forum:

Attitudes about menstruation: for everyone and Menstrual products.

Hmm... interesting topic guys :)

When i was younger i used to hate bra shopping - cos mum was paying when i was a teen and i hated bra shopping. The shop assistant would insist on fitting me with a bra everytime i and it was traumatic. I hated people seeing me naked and i felt like every one was staring at me, the awkward teenager and i always thought people could see how uncomfortable it made me . Hated it with a passion, i would get anxious about it and just say yes to the first bra that i tried on that was half decent cos i was embarrressed lol. I would hide myself in the dressing room and avoid at all cost that shop assistant poking and prodding at my bra......

Its just gah.... i have always had big boobs and i was a gymnast in my teens and even as a gymnast i had big boobs which everyone but me thought was cool. I was wearing 2 crop tops to gymnastics and still things bounced everywhere and i hated it.

I hate lacey bras.... cannot stand them. i like subtle cute bras in plain colours . I go bra shopping only when absolutely neccessary and although i dont die of embarressment as much any more, i hate bra shop assistants who think i know nothing about my own body and try to tell me i dont know what size bra i need... And i can never find ones i like that fit, and all the nice ones are too small :( If i could get away with wearing crop tops i would but sadly i need the support.

Underwear is blah. Ive had exes ask could i wear a gstring cos they think its hot, or " wear that etc that you wore when we did xxxxxx" and i just shudder......

So i own a few " sexy" pieces of underwear. But almost never wear them, unless im in a rare mood and have a partner i want to impress.... Im still trying to remember to only wear stuff cos i wanna wear it, not for anyone else, cos im so used to feeling like im not good enough.....

I only use tampons for my period, cos i hate the messyness of pads. Ive had waaaayyy too many leak through, and freaked out about getting blood on clothes and paranoid that people can tell and they feel icky.... mind you, i havent used pads since 2000 so they might be better now since then, but i wont risk it as my periods are insanely heavy and bad.... I used to feel guilty about the type of tampon i used, because everyone said but only people who have had kids need super tampons, but not as much any more ...... it also means i dont have to think about my period all the time when i have it....

Psh, I wouldn't listen to that. I use super tampons and I don't even have particularly heavy periods. I just like the added security and, like you said, not having to think about it so much.

I have no qualms about buying bras and no problems with the styles personally. And like you I want to be able to do things without them moving around; its so uncomfortable when they don't fit properly and everything moves when you walk.

I recently brought a pyjama top with built in support. Its like a strappy top with elastic support - no wires. If you have any lingerie shops specialising in larger cup sizes in your area, you should check them out. They'll probably do something similar.

i was embarrassed about underwear and periods and stuff years back, but now i see it as apart of being a woman. i understand what my period is all about so i'm comfortable with all that goes with it. i see the value of finding the best bras, panties, and shaping garments so i get to work finding what i want instead of hanging my head when i'm in a lingerie store. that said, if anyone knows a chain of lingerie stores with a good push up bra with thick straps let me know! the common chains around me, especially la senza, sells cheaply made bras in trashy designs for women that don't actually need any support. unfortunately it's found that women in general won't shell out more than $10 for a bra so they've turned their focus to those.

Tampons themselves don't gross me out. I just don't wanna use them. I'm perfectly fine with bras and underwear, though. They're just clothes.

Yeah, stuff like tampons and thongs gross me out. I'm cool with bras though and am a big fan of Victoria's Secret. But I always hated it in the lockers rooms before gyms when girls would shout out "Anyone have a tampon? My vagina's bleeding." I just think certain things shouldn't be discussed so openly. And thongs confuse me. I understand why girls wear them, but really? WHY?

Um, that's a bit awkward to hear. I usually just heard "It's early", "I leaked" or something a little less...descriptive?

When asking for a tampon, do you really need to explain what you need it for? I mean, it should be obvious.

Please! One time, a girl showed me her COMPLETELY period-stained underwear...

 ... I'm pretty sure that would gross sexual people out, too.

Jesus, who does that?

I was already shocked when a girl in 6th grade showed me her first pubic hairs, cause she was so proud of them. Some girls really feel no shame.

Stuff like bras, tampons, underwear/thongs, that sort of thing... This is mainly a question for girls, but does it gross you out, or freak you out, or anything?

I feel the same say! I only just found out about asexuality but from reading all the helpful stuff on this site, I've realized I AM asexual.

And then I find this forum and realize, I'm not alone!

I absolutely HATE when my sisters talk about their periods and when they complain about cramps, tampons, etc. It just makes me feel more abnormal than I already feel. I mean, it's like a personal thing, not something you should freaking shout to the world.

Don't even get me started on bras! I put off getting one for about three years because they just don't seem natural to me. But because of this, I have some back problems.

And to me, bras are just so uncomfortable and I hate in PE class when all the others girls are just changing out in the open and I'm like "what they hell?"

And then there's underwear. I don't know why, but underwear scares me. There's just something about seeing underwear that just freaks and creeps me out.

Yeah, some girls in my gym class parade around showing off their new thong. I know some strange people. I totally don't get it.

By the way, welcome to AVEN :cake: You'll totally fit it here.

TMI warning, but I think this goes without saying in this topic.

Bras I have no problem with. I need them. Most of the time I need underwire ones unless I was to go around wearing sports bras all the time. I wouldn't want to do that either. I'm a D/DD (wishing they sold those midsize bras for my size), and ones without underwire aren't comfortable because they don't adequately support. I'm not huge on sports bras either because they tend to compress my breasts so it gets sweaty in my cleavage. I've seen a few sports bras that I'm interested in that keep them separate, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm cheap.

Bra shopping is really only painful because I'm bordering that size where I can't find my size at Ross. I do NOT want to pay $30 a bra, no, no, no.

Underwear doesn't bother me. I don't get the fancy kinds, but again, I'm cheap. Reminds me...I need to pick up a couple more packs.

Frankly, pads tend to gross me out more than tampons. Especially on my first few days, pads just feel disgusting, but that's because I tend to have a pretty heavy flow. I've never heard that "you only need super if you've had kids" thing, and it's definitely not true in my case. Of course, when you've forgotten to replace either, both feel pretty gross.

Re: "you only need super if you've had kids"

Maybe tampon sizes in the US relate to different sizes to those in the UK? Here, we used to get tampons/sanitary towels in normal/regular and super. Super were for "heavy" days and normal/regular for the rest of them. Then they introduced "lights" for those, well, light days! And then "super plus" for really heavy days.

I'm not an expert but as I understand from both personal experience and those of women older than me who have and have not had children, that your cycle can change throughout your life for various reasons (including age, diet, activity levels) and that it is not simply the case that women only have really heavy periods after having kids. And here's some good news for you suffering youngsters - in my experience hitting your 30s makes them lighter and less painful (I've never had kids, been on the pill or done anything else that would alter my hormone levels).

Thanks! *grabs cake*

And you're story about bra shopping reminds me of how I absolutely HATE clothes shopping. When I was younger I used to ask my mom if I could go wait out in the car because I didn't feel well even if it was only ME that was the one shopping for clothes.

I don't know why but I cannot stand clothes shopping. I mean, yeah, I WERE clothes, I just find it pointless all the work that a lot of people put into it. I'm happy with a shirt and a pair of jeans yet whenever my mom takes me shopping, she always tries to get me to buy things I'd never wear. And it really pisses me off.

It's amazing how much time my sisters take to get ready in the morning when I'm up and dressed in under five minutes.

Haha! Sorry this is a bit off topic, your story just reminded me of this.
