Voted Indifferent. In terms of ideals, I'm pretty much in the full-blown libertarianism side (the sort M51 mentioned, not really the current practice), or even further off on the fringe of a fringe... When it comes down to politics, though, I'm not expecting any significant change to come from government, so any move towards my favored state (heh) will have to come from the bottom. I just don't have any faith in big revolutionary nights, Le Grand Soir-style.

So, I guess I mostly ignore politics, except when it comes down to issues where I just can't contain my opiniated self... That, and I'm hard to please (you hear me, Ron Paul?). Does that make sense?

I can't vote :( (In this poll) I have a hard time sorting myself into these USA terms.

I'm also fed up with my local "Let drunken monkeys vote; it couldn't change anything  " democracy.

In general I'm just wondering why this government continues burning money that nobody actually seems to have. - I'd love it to cut itself to maybe 50% until out of debt. - Does that make me "pragmatic"?

I'm a moderate. It's the only affiliation I see making any sort of sense. I'm liberal in some areas, I'm convervative in others. So I identify as moderate. I don't understand how anyone could be "liberal" or "convervative" for every single political issue.

I voted indifferent. I'm registered as a Republican, but I'm thinking of switching to Independent. Both the Democratic and Republican parties are beginning to disgust me. I vote for whoever I think is best for the job, regardless of their party. I'm Liberal on some issues and Conservative on others, so I guess I'm Middle-of-the-Road. Politics really doesn't interest me.

So, Montezuma99, we disagree on the definition of "Libertarian".

Okay. You keep your definition and I will keep mine (although I maintain the evidence that the National Libertarian Party fully supports my definition and I can't find any significant entity that supports yours....).

Could you at least put an option there for "I have some liberal opinions and some conservative opinions"? Indifferent doesn't cut it because I am most definitely NOT indifferent,. It seems there are quite a few people who cannot vote simply because they cannot tie themselves to the traditional liberal/conservative spectrum.

Or maybe an option for "None of the above - I favor fiscal responsibility and moral freedom."

One of the few ultra-conservative/libertarians. While I didn't have a problem identifying myself as such, I have strongly conservative values but generally prefer minimal government, I wouldn't necessarily consider the two to be the same thing. An ultra-conservative, in my mind, would be more like a paleo-conservative (think Buchanan). Paleo-conservatives are generally minimal government but with the exceptions that they oppose immigration, support government-enforcement of conservative values, and are more nationalistic (e.g. defense spending). Libertarians are more purist on minimal government.

I voted other. I am an anarchist. I like the ideals of anarchism, though I do know it would be very difficult for an anarchist society to function with all anarchy ideals intact given the way people are.

Libertarian... I don't know why that's lumped in with ultra-conservatives.

Anarchist leaning towards Apathetic. ;)

Really I just think I should rule the world and everyone should do things my way. :P

i believe people could live in anarchy, merely bound by morals and empathy to another... under the right circumstances....

Well, I took the first option, seen as I consider myself to be a libertarian...

But as other people have pointed out, that's not really the same as 'Ultra Conservative'.

Extremely liberal on social issues; moderate/indifferent on more economic issues.

Libertarian. I don't see how more government means more freedom. That's loony. Nazi Germany was pro government.

Wow -- of the people on this forum taking the test the Socialists are in the majority! Yay Socialists!

All those who think libertarianism or conservatism is great should be sentenced to living in the US and making $10/hour. Try making it without any help while you watch rich people enjoying themselves on your work product.

Why? The US isn't a libertarian country, so what relevance would that have?

It's a conservative/libertarian country now.

How so? Libertarianism centres around the government being as small as possible and leaving people to their own devices. Given the US government has massively increased in size, spending is out of control and there's more interference in the day to day lives of people than in a very long time, I don't see it as being libertarianism.

But then I'm from the crazy classical liberalism wing of libertarianism.

You're right -- it's just plain right-wing, which definitely does go in for governmental control.

after 12 years of the Bush-lovin'/arse-lickin' PM John Howard, it can only be Strong/Ultra Liberal.

(although "Liberal" means the opposite in my country...but hey, why confuse you guys lol)

It's beyond me how a stupid, doltish, incoherent and illiterate guy like Bush managed to hypnotize most of the English-speaking world leaders who've probably had fairly decent educations and IQs higher than their waistlines. Not that I don't respect my president. No, not at all.

How did Libertarian get grouped with ultra-conservative??? They're very different.

Anyway, I kind of consider myself a right-wing Libertarian. My views are mostly conservative (not to be confused with religious fundamentalism), but the government needs to butt out of peoples' personal lives and shouldn't be "promoting" (for lack of a better term) one lifestyle over another.

I'm a libertarian, as I believe that for the most part the government should not interfere in people's lives.

As for whether or not I'm conservative, that would really depend on whether you look at the concept of conservatism a British perpective (my perspective) or an American one. Or from another place entirely.

I consider myself only just conservative. I beleive that sometimes things need to change, and we should progress as much as we can. But that doesn't mean we should rush headlong into things without considering them properly. I'm sort of pragmatic.

I believe in a small amount of socialism, as there are some people you've just GOT to help, such as the disabled, the old, children etc. But I sure as hell would not let people live and die on the dole the way the government now does. I wouldn't let people live on the dole for more than a year. I despise the workshy, instead of popping out kids every 10 minutes they should get fucking jobs to pay for them first. I feel strongly about that.

And I would not penalise success. Redistribution of wealth would be minimal. I'm not an economist so I don't know exact numbers, but when people work hard for their money they should be allowed to keep more of it. It's theirs, not the government's.

I'm also quite right wing on crime. We need to be much, much tougher on it. We need to pull out of the EU Human Rights Act, which protects criminals when they need to be punished.

If there were an election tomorrow, I would vote for the Conservative party. I don't fully agree with all they stand for, but I agree with most of it.
