@Luftschlosseule

I see . It was weird too how I always hang out at the Adult section of the library lol (and borrow books on paranormal and other non kids stuff) and I am lucky to say that we use the automatic checkout system so there's no need to interact . But I am sure I get weird looks from other patrons that are nearby (since I keep grabbing all the horror/paranormal stuff) . Same goes when I am in the bookstore , I check out all the horror mangas and books and people must think I am crazy lol

I really love my university’s libraries. One of them has a garden on its roof which is only open in summer but it’s a great place to study if you don’t have a garden or balcony to your apartment. The “reading garden” features regular garden furniture and a small section of it has a glass roof, so if there’s light summer rain, people still might study there, having lots of fresh air and green. It even has a little section with grass on the ground, so technically it’s possible to bring a mat or towel to lay down and read or study there.

The only negative thing about the libraries is... people! I had stuff stolen at my Law School library (such a shame considerung future lawyers and judges steal there!). Also I met some weird/pushy guys at another university library who were not going to the library to study/read but to ask girls out or even ask people to fill out their papers or write letters to the local job centre for them, so they wouldn’t have to do that themselves (wtf... lazyheads).

One of the reasons I go a lot to the library is to be able to study in silence. Most people don’t have the guts to annoy or interrupt you when there are signs that say “no talking” and stuff since they don’t want to be thrown out. The sound of pages being turned or books being flipped through is really relaxing.

I love my uni's library too! It's eight floors high, but you can only get to floor 4 on the main stairs/elevator. You have to find the elevator that takes you up to the top section, and it's kind of scary, but it's warm and just smells like old books!

And every floor has study spaces and silent sections. Usually on the 8th floor, all of the tables are taken up during the busy hours, but it has a really pretty view of downtown (only through specific windows, otherwise it's a good view of campus). Also, the architecture is very pretty. It's busy a lot, so I'm probably going to start hanging out at the LGBT+ center instead.

I'm child who was rised in library and for me this was always place where i can relax and have some time for myself. My mom is my role model librarian. I admire her knowledge and especialy patience for everyone who came to library especialy elders or children who are very picky readers.

I have bad experience with my uni library. The librarians were mean and rude and always talk so loud that I can't focus on studing or writing my papers but when students talk loud they were note them immediately.

I was during my collage days volunteer in small library wich collect only fantasy and science fiction books, rpg handbooks, mangas and comic books. This place, for huge geek like me, was so amazing and atmospheric. I met there many people who expand my horizons and I discover many books wich are my fave for this day.

To continue on the note of foreign-language libraries; we also have a German library (or at least a reading room; we had one when I last checked a few years ago...) and a French one (which also stocks trace amounts of books in other Romance languages, such as Spanish or Italian. We don't have a specialised library for those two.)

@mari123

Yeah, I also recall that some librarians in my local uni library had little patience with students and acted like students were a nuisance for not knowing some arcane rules...

@Piotrek I was a witness this kind of situations many times and sometimes as a library user I was afraid ask for help when I could find something that I need.

My local and school libraries are second homes to me. I go to them regularly.

The only thing I really dislike about my library, is that they tend to only carry poetry by those few poets that people know, or anthologies. I want more variety.

My local library branch in quite small, but it is part of a network of libraries within the country, so I can get things from those other branches delivered to my local branch, or I can go to those branches and check anything out. I can also return any of my material to any of those branches. It's helpful because I may check something out from my branch, but then go pet-sitting somewhere and returning it to another branch is easier/closer to the clients house.

And our network of libraries are basically community centers. I know my branch regularly has a Dr. Who Fan Club meet-up, and a LEGO night, and various other "activities." I have seen a free yoga class offered at one of the libraries.

When I was living in Boston, The main library downtown, on Monday nights, they would have movies in the lecture hall in the basement.

Libraries are such great places to learn and grow, both in knowledge and in your "self."

Are you able to make propositions?
I can make some suggestions, and if the book was published in the last two years, they'll look into it, if they think it would be a good addition to the catalogue.

I remember hanging out at the library at my old uni. It was only 5 stories but they had all the books I needed on the top floor, so I would find a window seat that had a beautiful view of the river and surrounding area. I miss being around so many books!

I can make suggestions to the library to increase their poetry selection. That doesn't mean that they'll actually do it though.

I don't have anything in particular that I want added. I like to pick up a poetry book at random and see if I like it,  hence why I want a larger selection. Poetry books are expensive.

Well, yes, it's a suggestion, not an order.^^

But I know what you mean, looking through the shelves and not knowing what you're gonna find is part of the fun.

I haven't been to the libarary after starting University.

I always went there once 2 weeks, even when there aren't any books I like to read so I would just randomly choose something I didn't mind.

The good thing is there's an online catalog so I can check once a while if they bought new books from my favorite series.

Bad thing is at the young adult section, 90% of it are those popular books with romance like Mortal instruments.

So most of the time, I don't have much to read even though I like reading. :/

I love libraries and I love working there! Seriously encourage everyone to go at least once this year. As someone who works in a library I can assure you that almost everyone loves working there and helping people out. So like please ask librarians if they have any good book recommendations for you or if you have any questions you need answered because that is our job!

I used to visit my local library branch to study/volunteer stocking shelves, but it shut down due to flooding. There are other libraries nearby, but I haven't had much need to visit. I check out digital books on the city's library website instead.

What if I go more than once and all I want is bad book recommendations?

I am sure there are librarians who enjoy reading bad books.
