Coming to Terms with my Sexuality

Recommended Posts

roseneurosis

Hello all,

My name is Rose. I have recently discovered that I am asexual.

When I was little I saw myself as homosexual because I had no interest in boys. I initially thought something was wrong with me, and learned that girls can be homosexual, so I figured that I must be homosexual (mind you, I was about 8 or 9).

However, I didn't have interest in girls either...

Around middle school I began to identify as pansexual, because at the time I thought it meant that I just simply had no exclusive preference. I identified as pansexual for ten years, until recently when my partner of five years suggested that I could very well be asexual. It explained quite a bit (lack of sexual attraction, indifference to certain sexual things, etc) and has helped our relationship like never before. My partner no longer feels inadequate and has a better understanding of why I am the way I am. They don't view me as broken, and they see me as what I am: a human being.

I discovered AVEN recently as I have been coming to terms with my sexuality, and I adore how welcoming the community is here! I feel less awkward about being ace, knowing now that there is a whole community of people like me.

Hello there, and welcome to AVEN! :cake:

As part of my welcome to you, I'd like to point out some important threads that might be helpful in your first few days here. :) The Terms of Service is here. We recommend you read it over, and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to send either myself or any other administrator or moderator (the "admod" team, as we're called) a message.  Also, there's a handy forum called Site Info, which has some useful information including a thread outlining who moderates which forum. If you ever need something done in or have questions about a specific forum, please message the mod of that forum. And if you have problems with the site in general, or any single member, please message any admod.

The following are also nifty links to take a look at:  Welcome Lounge Mini Manual | Welcoming 101 | Quick Guide to the Forums | Asexuality FAQ's

Again, welcome to AVEN and I hope your stay is everything you hoped!
