Guest
I like this quote I found years ago. "a smile is a hug from the heart" I practice smiling at others when I'm out and about whenever I'm in fit spiritual condition. It makes me feel better and even more so if I am given one in return. Not necessary and still very nice.
Podsnap
Ironically, there has actually been some controversy here about smiling at strangers. :-)

That's rather sad I think. Thx for responding & letting me write back.
Guest Jetsun Milarepa
I tried smiling to someone once at work and I got 'What are you grinning at , you f*****g robot!' whereupon 'weirdos that just look at you and smile' became a topic for at least half an hour. Beat listening to 'the spot on my chin' for 8 hours though!
NerdyByNature
Smiling at strangers is a thing in the south, so I'm on board. 😸 I have heard it's not so common in other area of the US.

Mulan
I'm, a smiley person. I guess I got into the habit of it since I started working in the banking service industry.
teatree
I find most people to be very interesting, once you get past whatever wall they have up. People smile at me all the time--in my younger days I used to hate it (this is New England, after all, and we are stereotypical believed to be less friendly than other U.S. regions), plus I have a large "personal space"...and now people have started just randomly telling me things as well. I can be standing in line at the grocery store and someone starts chatting with me. Maybe because I smiled??? Hmmmm.
Muledeer
Since I can't recognize faces very well, I just smile at anyone who makes eye contact, thinking I should probably know them in some capacity from somewhere. (Actually I avoid eye contact most of the time.) It is when that smile results in a greeting "Hi, Shawn" that I become terrified and start looking for an exit or trying to remember where I know them from. I'm pretty good at bullshitting my way out of those situations. It is interesting there could be controversy regarding smiling at strangers.
Tanwen
Smiling is infectious, you catch it like the flu, When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too. I passed around the corner and someone saw my grin. When he smiled I realized I'd passed it on to him. I thought about that smile, then I realized its worth. A single smile, just like mine could travel round the earth. So, if you feel a smile begin, don't leave it undetected. Let's start an epidemic quick, and get the world infected!
