Gorax
Ahhhh! I didn't even recognize you with your new avatar hehe. Everyone has their cats by their names now, it seems :D Man, society is so sheepish . . . Oh, wait.

Neko
By the way, what does your avatar mean? :( I've never been able to figure it out... *sniff* Bishop, I'm equally curious. What does it mean?
dabishop
Well...I like teal. And I like turnips. The size of the image is just right. Oh, and I also like "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys. It was either that or a still photo of the Bishop himself on the TV, in his bitchen red cape. Seemed kind of intense, though. I'm a low-profile sort of guy.
Cate Perfect
*Completely off topic alert* Hey, bishop, did you know teal (blue/green) was Ayn Rand's fav colour and she had her apartment entirely decorated in it? Fun fact for today. Cate
dabishop
Thanks Cate, I needed that. One of my favorite Ayn Rand quotes: "This relationship is sexual or it's nothing!" (to her 22-year-old acolyte Nathaniel Branden). Favorite TV reference: the episode of 'The Simpsons' where Maggie is enrolled in the Ayn Rand Daycare. In one scene there are alphabet primer panels along the walls, and the first one reads "A is A".
Cate Perfect
That's a great AR quote, bishop, I've heard it before and am COMPLETELY impressed that you (or anyone else) knows it. *Bows to Bishop* Wanna be Minister of Philosophy and Random Quotes in my Royal Court? dabishop
I would be honored, Your Grace. Hell, Louis XIV had a Chief Anagrammist in his court, so why not someone who shows up at random moments, throws some semi-random text, and wanders away again? But in the interest of some, ahem, thread coherence, I will say:
Cate Perfect
That's interesting, cronos, I didn't know that about France...Already doing a great job with random, yet interesting info. Cate EDIT: I mean, Bishop. You people all look alike to me. Just kidding. I was talking to cronos on AIM and can only keep up with one name at a time.
Neko
Hmm... *rethinks idea of moving to France* I think I'll just stay where I'm at, now.
JKReagan99
We still are pretty bad here with the fix it with pills problem. My roomate's brother (who is in a medical field) was in another country that doesn't use much at all, gave someone one ibprofen pill for back pain, and it it completely knocked them out, because they were not used to it at all, and it did get rid of the pain... For most people here one pill is not gonna do anything close to that.... :?

Icarus
Hooboy...don't even get me started on psychiatry and meds and all that. Growing up, I had to put up with a little bit of what amounted to psychological abuse and it did involve some limited pill-pushing a time or two. It probably should have gone something like this Doctor/parent/whoever: "If we could give you a pill to 'fix' this 'problem' we would." (I heard this a few times  ) Me: "Has it ever occured to you that maybe I like who I am?" D/p/w: "But you're--" Me: "You know, if you'd stop being so fucking manipulative and start fulfilling your moral obligation of unconditional acceptance..." Ritalin et al...yeah, little Jimmy acts up in school...bright idea: let's temporarily fry his brain out so he does his work and there's no "distractions" *obnoxious buzzer* Howbout we look at why little Jimmy doesn't want to _______. Bad classroom environment, stupid pointless assignments, something, most likely the little-Jimmy's would do great in a compatible situation. So, an "alternative" school? Maybe every school should be "alternative" - fit the education to the student, not the student to the education. I'll leave it at this. I'm no expert at it...maybe there's a *few* cases where meds are beneficial, but what I've heard so far about it really sucks.
Icarus
When I have my own apartment, I'm going to decorate it so it looks like an alien hive :D  :thumbs-up: This gets me thinking ... I've had places of my own for nearly forever now (and under no circumstance am I going to blindly conform to traditional means of home-decorating) but I've never really done anything cool with it. One of several ideas I have is to make a set of colored lights that will go along the floor or low on the wall, even behind furniture and stuff. And I'll build them with different-colored elements inside so the color can be changed on the fly. :) This might deserve a thread of it's own I think... [/off-topic]
JKReagan99
Maybe every school should be "alternative" - fit the education to the student, not the student to the education. At least here in Connecticut, by law every public school (private schools will just kick kids out if they don't fit how the school wants them to be) is *supposed* to fit the education to the student. It doesn't happen that way, but it is supposed to. I believe it is the same in California as well (and probably around the country). As for mental illnesses, yes we do over diagnose people, however, there are cases where a person does need to be helped. When someone looses control of their actions, and puts themself or others in danger, then they need help in some form or another. Certain medications do help these people, as certain chemicals in their minds cause the problems.
Gorax
H. R. Giger, the guy who created the look for the Aliens, also makes furniture in the same style. Unfortunately, they go for 50K a piece :x
