Sex in music and movies - uncomfortable or neutral?

Movies: It's not like I care much or as if I felt repulsed or anything. Yet I find myself asking "Why is this necessary?" more often than not. (Disclaimer: I'm not into movies at all, so my sample size is really really small.)

Music: It kind of depends on what I'm doing. Most of the time I'll have music on to have a background noise, so I'll "absorb" the melodic part much more than the actual lyrics. English isn't my mother tongue which makes it even easier to "ignore" lyrics of any kind since a lot of the stuff played is written in English.

This can be different if I actively listen to what is going on. I can't recall ever shutting down a song because of sexual lyrics alone, but I could imagine shutting it down when it makes me think something like "This is ridiculous." The latter definitely happened when it came to romance :D

I understand that. What comes to my mind after reading through the comments is that it is more understandable for everyone if sex is not visualized.

For me, sex in movies is just...weird and awkward? 🤔 It's like, why are you trying to be porn without being porn? Most of the time, it's pretty pointless and just makes it weird to watch with other people present 😖.

In music, I don't mind it so much unless it gets explicit or disturbing. I typically listen to more instrumental songs though so it doesn't come up often.

Despite being sex-repulsed, I'm neutral about sex in music and movies provided that the depiction of sex is integral to the story. If it's gratuitous, then I object to it on aesthetic grounds.

Rather neutral. Just as long as it's not too graphic or explicit.

The only time I am annoyed at "sex scenes" in cinema is when said scenes are just thrown in there gratuitously. When that happens, I find that it breaks the narrative and takes me completely out of the verse being displayed.

Sexual and/or sensual themes in music can be very evocative and moving on a purely emotional level and so, I can appreciate the composition regardless of my being asexual (and physically celibate since my separation and subsequent divorce -because of my asexuality- some 14 years ago). I must note though that I am not sex-repulsed, nor do I find the subject distasteful, unless the song glorifies and/or spouses any form of sexual entitlement/abuse. I will never listen to, or support such "music", because I find that to be abhorrent.

I don't like hearing about sex in music nor do I like seeing sex in movies. However, I have no trouble reading sex scenes or even smut. Maybe it's because when it's on screen I can never quite forget that it's just two actors up there doing their job. When I'm reading it, it's definitely more about the feeling and emotions behind the act that I find appealing rather than the act itself.

I’m ok with movies as long as the sex is well-placed. But as like the others mentioned, the characters would go into some sexual act all of a sudden, maybe too many times.

Having said this, I don’t think my experience on this is related to my sexual orientation, because its more rooted in overall execution of the movie rather than the depiction of sex itself.

I have no issue with music, but in movies it does make me uncomfortable. I'm not sure why, though.
