Curiosity about human sexual nature

I've found that despite being 100% Asexual and fairly sex-averse, I do find the topic of sex and what humans find to be 'sexy' really fascinating. I have watched porn in the past for this reason, almost trying to quantify what about it and the elements in porn (aggression/multiple parties, etc) that people are so drawn to.

Recently I've started the Netflix series 'Hot Girls Wanted' all about the world of Porn, Sex, Prostitution, and seeing the behind the scenes view of how it works, and how it makes people feel to be part of it, working in a sexual environment for money.

Anyone else find similar things interesting (but not arousing)?

Any thoughts you have on the whole area of sex from a non-sexual perspective?

Its not something I spent an inadequate amount of time on but I did catch a glimpse or two about the world of porn and how people working in it felt. Not surprised to see that these people really have alot of pressure to perform (no pun intended) for the cameras and a few of them even opted out when they met the reality of the industry.

There are others who say that it was a fun experience because they could actually live out the fantasies that most seem to have but outside of watching porn are pretty much incapable of doing, which I suspect is one of the top reasons people are drawn to porn, although that always tends to fend the flames of discussion between people who become addicted to porn and people who just use it recreationally so to speak. There are also the infamous talks about how porn just create an unrealistic perspective of sex (which does have truth to it) many times, as some would say, depriving them of a potetially real experience.

Its always odd that people still have these kind of issue for something that they have done for millenias.

Someone Else

I can see why some bodies look good, and (maybe) why making out might be good.  But porn almost always devolves into something involving the genitals.... it's like a genre-wide obsession almost.  And that part has me weirdly curious.  I've watched porn just to try to understand the "obsession" with the genitals.

I think that's less of an obsession, but rather the definition of (hardcore) porn.

Yes, I'm quite interested in human sexuality and I enjoy watching documentaries about anything from sex-toys to unconventional sexual relationship set-ups. There was one female porn director who was making very artsy erotic films and I found them quite beautiful (they weren't starring genitals haha), especially lesbian scenes that were more sensual than sexual I guess. There are also many documentaries about the dark side of sex (brothels, trafficking, paraphilias) and I find them interesting to watch too.

Nothing makes me anywhere near aroused haha, I watch it all because of simple curiosity :)

Apathetic Echidna

I don't seek out those sorts of things but I do watch them if I stumble across them, I remember a great one about love hotels in Japan and a British one where they went around the world....found it: The Women’s Institute’s guide to Brothels (BBC)

and also a masking one. I didn't know masking was a thing until I watched  Secrets of The Living Dolls

I am similar, liking to observe and try to understand human sexuality too. I like to try to see why it exists, what it is useful for, what it all means. I have discovered that animals and humans are pretty similar. Not all of the sexual beings do it the same way though. You tube is a great place to watch animals mating. It's basically about one thing though: transmitting DNA from organism to organism. What is sexually attractive differs between species too. I guess according to Darwin it's all about natural selection, and what is good to breed with. They all select different kinds of mates of course. A praying mantis eats her mates head off. That could be considered orgasmic in her world, but in ours wouldn't be socially acceptable in most societies. The chimps display their rumps in the air so potential mates can see their status of being estrus or not. So mating rituals can differ by species, too. The act itself is just transmission of DNA from one organism to another. That is what sexual reproduction is all about vs. asexual reproduction. That was what all the hype was for: genetic variety. Back in the day before sexual reproduction, an organism that budded was the hottest thing in the sea. Of course, maybe not since they might not even feel attraction at all since there are no new genes to gaze at. Anyway to an orangutan it could be the way they brachiate from branch to branch that turns another on who knows?

I think it's an interesting question why some people are attracted to pornography and others are not. I know sexual people who have no interest in pornography, and asexual people who are viewers, which might seem counterintuitive.

It's also interesting to read about the variations between styles of pornography from different countries, such as contrasting American, French, Italian, and Japanese pornography. But I've never had the motivation or attention span to watch examples.

I watched that series. It bored me to tears.

I was in that business. The document was not accurate at all.

In regards to the variations, you would probably be interested in this article. (Don't worry, there aren't any 18+ pictures/videos in this links. It's just stats)

Thanks, that's quite the resource! Now I'm trying to figure out why on Pornhub "step mom" is the second most popular search term globally, and the most popular search term in the United States.
